Works great, reliable, sturdier than most, seems flexible. I couldn't get linux to bootup on it, but it may have just been the netbook hardware itself, not sure.

Very vibrant

This is definitely a vibrant soundtrack just like the movie's attitude! If it was not for the many short tracks, I would have rated this better, but it is harder to keep up with 40 thirty-second tracks!
Dispite that, it is still worth buying!
What's great about it: everthing but....
What's not so great: very short tracks

For those whole like their apocalyptic disaster films delivered mother-nature style, Godzilla director Roland Emmerich's The Day After Tomorrow arrives on DVD courtesy of 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. The feature is presented in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen and looks virtually flawless. For viewers who neglected to see the grand-scale adventure in the big screen, this disc offers the next best thing -- with remarkable clarity and no discernible evidence of digital artifacting or edge enhancement. The English DTS 5.1 audio mix is appropriately room-shaking, and the surround channels are well-utilized in placing viewers directly at the center of the action. Alternate English Dolby Digital 5.1, and Spanish and French Dolby Digital Surround with optional English and Spanish subtitles are also offered. Though there are indeed some informative bonus materials offered on this disc, one might expect quite a bit more from such a special-effects-oriented film. Audio commentary with director Emmerich and producer Mark Gordon often finds the comments of the soft-spoken but good-humored director taking a back seat to the at times gratingly motor-mouthed anecdotes of the producer, while a more informative secondary track featuring co-writer Jeffrey Nachmanoff, director of photography Ueli Steiger, editor David Brenner, and production designer Barry Chusid really explores the behind-the-scenes work that went into crafting such an elaborate production. The "Audio Anatomy" interactive sound demo offers an interesting look at how sound shapes a film by allowing viewers to cycle between eight separate tracks -- each offering a separate component such as foley or score that, when pieced together, truly bring the film to life. It's an interesting feature for audiophiles, and a great way to learn what an important role audio plays in shaping the filmgoing experience. DVD-ROM materials offer viewers who own a PC with Internet access over an hour of exclusive making-of footage.

Very Good!

This is a very good movie! They did a good job making it clear what was going on in the movie, that enabled people to enjoy it more. The whole thing is not WAY "out there", but still cool! (literally!)
The acting and story was pretty good, and there was definitely some heavily exaggerated or underexaggerated effects and stunts. The rest made up for the negatives.

Men in Black II comes to DVD with an anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. Subtitles are accessible in both of those languages as well. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by director Barry Sonnenfeld, a handful of featurettes covering every aspect of the film's production, a music video from Will Smith, multi-angle options on some scenes, and filmographies. Those with a DVD-ROM drive can access a game, the film's script, and screensavers for a PC. This is a superb release from Columbia/TriStar.

Barry Sonnenfeld's science fiction-comedy Men in Black comes to DVD with a pair of transfers. The widescreen anamorphic transfer preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and is preferable in every way to the standard full-frame image. Closed-captioned English soundtracks are rendered in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround, while a French soundtrack has also been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. English, French, Spanish, Cantonese, and Mandarin subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include commentary tracks recorded by Sonnenfeld and the actors and filmmakers, a music video from Will Smith, trailers, a preview for Men in Black 2, production notes, and a making-of documentary. This is a superb disc from Columbia TriStar.

Ben Affleck stars as action hero Jack Ryan in the adaptation of Tom Clancy's The Sum of all Fears. The film is presented in a pristine-looking 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer. Paramount has done an excellent job at making sure the colors, black levels, and flesh tones are all well saturated and represented accurately. Besides the smallest amount of edge enhancement, this transfer appears to be in great shape. The soundtrack is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround in English. This is a very enveloping sound mix that sports directional effects from both the front and rear speakers to maximum effects. All aspects of the mix are free and clear of any hiss or distortion, making this 5.1 audio track a great ride for movie fans. Also included on this disc are Dolby Digital 2.0 Surround soundtracks in English and French, as well as English subtitles. This special "Collector's Edition" of The Sum of all Fears sports a few fine supplements, starting with a commentary track by director Phil Alden Robinson and cinematographer John Lindley, and a second by director Robinson and novelist Tom Clancy. Both of these commentaries should provide viewers with a wealth of both story and technical information about the making of the film. While Clancy often complains about the "butchering" job done to his book, he is filled with a lot of neat information about the script and the events that take place in the film. Seven short featurettes ("Casting," "Production," "Carrier Attack," "A-4," "Hospital," "Motorcade," and "Helicopter") offer a glimpse into how the film was cast, what it was like to work on the special effects, and how many of the visual stunts were achieved. Each of these featurettes focuses on a different aspect of the film, some running longer than others. Finally there is a theatrical trailer for the film.

This is a real "possible-end-of-the-world" movie! The story is done well, and the actors preformed just as good! It is Thrilling and Pressingly suspense filled at the same time!
I am a fan of movies that Freeman has been in, and this keeps the good reputation going.

An exemplary achievement as a film, and an equally exemplary achievement as a DVD. Ostensibly New Line's first Infinifilm disc (Little Nicky was, in fact, the first, with an Infinifilm version hidden as an easter egg), the DVD contains a selection of fairly normal features plus new features that utilize branching technology. The transfer is excellent. The film has been mastered anamorphically at an aspect ratio of 1.85:1. Colors are strong and accurate throughout (and the disc includes color bars to assist with setup) with deep blacks and good shadow detail. Fleshtones are accurate throughout. The image is sharp and clear, with no artifacts or softness. The Dolby 5.1 audio track has an excellent mix, with subtle use of atmospheric and ambient surround. The bass, when called up, is tight and clear and does not thump or rattle. Straightforward directional effects are few and far between in the mix, simply because they're not often called for. The ambient effects, however, more than make up for this, with each set given its own atmosphere. The Infinifilm feature places a broad semi-transparent blue bar at the bottom of the screen from time to time. Each time it appears, it offers one or more choices; by making a selection, the viewer is sent along a branching path to a snippet of information: filmographies, background information, clips from one of the two documentaries, and so forth. This certainly functions to broaden the experience of watching a film such as Thirteen Days, though not every movie would seem to call for this approach. Not content with offering this aspect, New Line has provided both a filmmaker's commentary track (executed as a roundtable with Kevin Costner, Roger Donaldson, David Self, and others), a historical figures commentary track compiled from a variety of recordings, a historical background commentary presented in subtitles, historical figure biographies, and cast and crew biographies. Additionally, there are two documentaries, "The Roots of the Cuban Missile Crisis" and "Bringing History to the Silver Screen," along with a brief visual effects piece, a number of deleted scenes with director commentary, and the theatrical trailer. This is certainly a DVD worth owning, considering the wealth of material included; the extra materials are fascinating, and will take time to digest.

I thought this movie was good! It was not a total action movie, but had its fill. The acting was done very well, and the historical value is the biggie! The rest is something that is better seen than told!
This is a must see!
What's great about it: This is a classic, historical
