Everyone's favorite pay-cable curmudgeon returns for a second season of laughs in this release from HBO Video. Each episode is presented in 1.33:1 full-frame and accompanied by closed-captioned audio rendered in English Dolby Digital Stereo. In addition to an alternate French Dolby Digital 2.0 track, optional English, French, and Spanish subtitles are also available.

Jim Henson's Fraggle Rock finally gets a fabulous full-fledged DVD release with this season-one set from HIT Entertainment and Jim Henson Home Entertainment. Featuring 24 shows, a packed bonus disc, and a reproduction of Henson's original notebook used to scrawl his ideas for the show before his pitch in 1981, the set is a home-run release that will deliver hours of entertainment for parents and children alike. Containing both a 50-minute original making-of hosted by Henson himself and a new 98-minute behind-the-scenes ten-part documentary, the bonus disc is a wealth of happiness for everyone that has ever wanted an in-depth look at any of the famous puppeteer's projects. Disney could actually learn a lot from this set, given that their Muppet Show: Season One release was devoid of anything similar. So if you've ever wanted something more out of previous best-of Fraggle Rock DVD releases, look no further because this is solid gold greatness for your home viewing pleasure.

Mel Gibson's Academy award-winning epic Braveheart comes to DVD in a fairly basic presentation that includes a widescreen, anamorphic transfer, Dolby Digital 5.1 and Surround Audio, and a commentary by Gibson. A "making of" featurette and two theatrical trailers complete this adequate disc. With any luck, a deluxe version of the DVD will be released in the not too distant future; Braveheart deserves better.

The complete fourth season of HBO's comedy Sex and the City arrives on DVD with this multi-disc set. Each episode is presented in the original broadcast aspect ratio of 1.33:1. English and Spanish soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. English, Spanish, and French subtitles are accessible. There are no supplemental materials of any consequence, making it difficult to recommend this set to anyone other than a fan of the show.

The foul-mouthed third graders of South Park, CO, are treated with respect in this DVD box set. The 17 episodes on South Park: The Complete Third Season have been transferred to disc in their original full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1, and the audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Stereo. The episodes are in English, with optional subtitles in English, French, and Spanish. As a bonus, each episode features a five to seven minute "mini-commentary" from series creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker.

John Pasquin's holiday comedy The Santa Clause comes to DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, while Spanish and French soundtracks have been recorded in Dolby Digital Stereo. Spanish subtitles are accessible, and the English soundtrack is closed captioned. Supplemental materials include a trivia game and a pair of featurettes. Those with a DVD-ROM drive can access additional featurettes and a screensaver for PC. This is a solid release from Disney/Buena Vista.

This side splitting release from Da Ali G Show includes all eighteen episodes of the show, following the comedic antics of Sacha Baron Cohen, as he plays characters like Borat, Bruno, and of course, Ali G.

Paramount Home Entertainment has released its fourth box set of episodes from Comedy Central's gleefully tasteless animated series South Park, and while this set will doubtless please fans, it doesn't offer much in the way of bonus goodies. South Park: The Complete Fourth Season features 17 episodes from the show's fourth cycle, all formatted in their original full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1; the transfers are sharp and clean, and it's nice to see the material without the all-too-familiar Comedy Central "watermark" in the lower right corner. The audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Stereo, and the sound offers more punch than in its broadcast version. The episodes are in English, but feature no subtitles or alternate language options. The only notable bonus material on this collection are commentary tracks for each episode from series creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, but for this set Parker and Stone have opted to offer what they call "fun-size commentaries," which last no more than five minutes at the opening of each episode. While they do offer some interesting and often funny anecdotes along the way (particularly in dealing with the network's concerns about handicapped character Timmy, who made his debut in season four, and their unusual down-to-the-wire working methods), generally they stop talking just as they've started to hit their stride, making the commentaries more than a bit frustrating. The only other bonus items are three short bits culled from Comedy Central shows, though this set does include the rare episode "Pip," an oddball adaptation of Charles Dickens' Great Expectations that rarely pops up in reruns and will be unfamiliar to many fans. South Park: The Complete Fourth Season certainly offers up this material in well-polished form, but unfortunately doesn't offer much else for fans looking for something more.
