Assembled from 3,000 hours of recently discovered color footage, this immersive documentary about World War II offers a vivid look at the war from both sides of the battlefield. Despite being prohibited from carrying diaries, many U.S. soldiers secretly recorded their experiences in writing and hid their journals away from the prying eyes of their superiors. By combining those journal entries with archival color footage that has been painstakingly converted to high definition, WWII in HD brings home their experiences in a way that few other films have managed to do.

A fantastic mini series / documentary featuring original color footage remastered in HD. Most of the footage had never been shown on American TV before, and you can tell why: grisly, gruesome footage abounds. Invaluable historical resource though, and a nice collection of information about the war told from the POV of real people.
What's great about it: Fantastic footage never before seen originally shot in color
To me, the State is the single greatest sketch comedy show of all time. It was much too short, but brilliant; at the time, SNL was bogged down with long, pointless skits and In Living Color was starting to fade away because Jim Carrey was heading to Hollywood. The large ensemble cast of the State also is the rare combination of talent both on and off camera; each member contributed more than just on screen pratfalls. To top it all off, they were constantly lampooning the fact that they were on TV and "big stars." [see, it's funny because it's not true!] A must have for any fan of comedy - I've waited for this for over 15 years and will be buying it the day it hits the shelf.
What's great about it: Finally, a complete State collection on DVD
