Not the best Hanks movie
on July 17, 2008

The Da Vinci Code though it wwas an amzing book by Dan Brown, the movie just doesnt come close to it./ All the hype for the movie just brought a huge let down. Though Tom Hanks was in it and the story line was fairly good the overall movie just wasnt what it was put up to be It was also a bit boring. Overall i would say if you want to watch the movie to compare it to the book go ahead, but its nothing like it.

Tony Scott's kidnapping thriller Man on Fire gets a fully loaded initial release to DVD. The image is presented in a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.40:1. The English soundtrack is rendered in DTS 5.1 and Dolby Digital 5.1. Spanish and French soundtracks have been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. Supplemental materials include a pair of commentary tracks. Tony Scott's commentary will please fans, but critics who find his films to be socially irresponsible trash will be able to point to it for evidence of their distaste. A second commentary track with producer Lucas Foster, screenwriter Brian Helgeland, and co-star Dakota Fanning is a more light-hearted track and offers insight into how the film came together. A making-of featurette rounds out this release from 20th Century Fox.

Shia is Amazing

Shia Lebouf is great in the movie fitting the role perfectly. The movie is about a kid who is under house arest and sees things out his window. Based off the movie Rear Window and in a way the Burbs. THe movie tends to not be the most exciting to start but it really does keep you watching. Overall i would recommend this movie to anyone thats age appropriate.
What's great about it: The acting and copied story line is great
What's not so great: Somewhat boring in the first part but the action pack end over turns that

Great Movie

The Back job is a good movie starring Jason Statham about a group of people robbing a bank. Its cool how the movei is based of a true story back in the 80's and how its sort of keeping you in making you want to know whats coming next. The first half of the movie isnt the most exciting but it really gets heated toward the end. Overall its smart thrilling film that i would recommmend to anyone that is old enough to watch the movie.
What's great about it: Based off a true story
What's not so great: Boring first half

Great Stand-up
on July 16, 2008

Steve Byrne is Hilarious, after seeing him on Comedy Central i just had to watch him again. He also won the Myspace comedy competion which launched his career. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys stand up especially when some of the jokes tend to be a little sexually oriented. The only downfall to this DVD is its only one of his shows (because he really only has been filmed for 1 show) so its only about 1 hour and 15 min of material for the price. So its a bit to pay but worth it if you like good stand up and you have to money.
What's great about it: He is Hilarious, fresh new jokes
What's not so great: tiny bit expensive for just 1 standup act but not that bad
I would recommend this to a friend!

Sam Mendes' multi-award-winning movie has become a superb DVD, with upwards of six hours of good viewing for anyone who cares to look beyond the movie itself. The bonus materials run almost twice as long as the feature itself, and give a massive amount of value. The movie elicited all kinds of profound analyses from writers who feel most secure when they're showing off how many big words they know -- in fact, it's well crafted and acted, and beautifully shot by Conrad Hall. This is one of the most beautifully transferred movies to show up yet on DVD, and shows signs of having been painstakingly mastered to the most minute specification. There's not a shot here that isn't a delight to the eye, and the audio is its match, a mix of very carefully mastered realistic onscreen sound coupled with a lyrical score by Thomas Newman. The film is broken up into 28 chapters that break the movie up handily, all accessible through a multi-layered menu. The disc offers a choice of DTS or Dolby 5.1 before a single frame has run, and then the menu set-up pops up. The most rewarding of the special features is the audio commentary track by director Sam Mendes and writer Alan Ball -- Mendes has a good enough sense of history to acknowledge Sunset Boulevard as part of his inspiration for the film, and he freely acknowledges making major modifications in the content and structure of the movie and the story right up through the final edit. The discussion would be a good jumping-off point for any would-be filmmaker at the high school or college level, and more than a few professionals could learn a thing or two from the director's free-ranging narrative. Alan Ball doesn't do much more than amplify what Mendes is saying most of the time, but his little interjections add enough variety to keep Mendes' remarks from ever even seeming monotonous (which they're not). The 21-minute "American Beauty: Look Closer . . ." incorporates much of the same information contained within the commentary track in a more superficial manner, intercut with remarks by Ball and the various actors. Much more rewarding on its own terms is the hour-long "Storyboard Presentation," in which each sketch is presented with the resulting shot and all are accompanied by Mendes and cinematographer Conrad Hall. In the midst of all of this bonus material, the inclusion of the two trailers seems like an afterthought. The "Cast & Crew" material is an onscreen version of the kind of raw publicity copy that used to go exclusively to editors and feature writers -- it's difficult to imagine too many fans of the movie taking the time to go through it all, especially as it's the only part of the supplement that is awkward to manipulate and the most overtly self-serving in its content.

Wonderful Story

This is just an awesome movie that deserved its best picture award. The story lines is great dealing with the Middle class family and mid-life crisis to an extreme really. Kevin Spacey does an amazing job in the movie and so does the rest of the cast. Overall i would recommend this movie to anyone who likes good acting and a good story that keeps you wondering exactly what happens next.
What's great about it: Story and acting really good
What's not so great: Low budget shows in a few parts

The first two-disc set from Paramount, Forrest Gump is a sight to see, and sure to please anyone who understood the real meaning of the film. To begin, the picture quality is about as good as it gets. Framed at the original aspect ratio of 2.35:1, and anamorphic, the colors are right on (skin tones are especially on target) and the definition is outstanding. Darker areas stand out with the correct shading that goes to show what can be done with careful authoring. The sound, a 5.1 Dolby Digital English track, is also perfectly realized. Though there is only a slim amount of surround material, the track is very forward and forceful, taking advantage, just at the right time, of the deeper bass. Also available is a French surround track and subtitles in English. As for extras, there is no mistaking that this Academy Award-winning film gets the star treatment. The first of the two discs, along with the movie, has two audio commentary tracks. The first is from director Robert Zemeckis, producer Steve Starkey, and production designer Rick Carter. The second commentary is from another of the producers, Wendy Finerman. Neither is screen-specific, but both are, in different ways, filled with a wealth of valuable information. But it is the second disc that houses the majority of the supplemental materials. There you will find a half-hour documentary (originally released on VHS in 1994) called "Through the Eyes of Forrest Gump." There are enough interviews and behind-the-scenes shots to make this better than the standard fluff piece. Next are some shorter featurettes, "The Magic of Makeup," "Through the Ears of Forrest Gump" (made up of five short segments), and "Building the World Of Forrest Gump -- Production Design." Eleven visual effects discussions, including two scenes that were excised from the film, are the highlight of the extras. Visual effects producer Ken Ralston and his team talk in depth about the multitude of effects shots used in the film. Finally, this disc features a decent photo gallery, some wonderful (though short) screen tests, and a couple of trailers. This is a wonderful DVD set for a memorable movie, certainly worthy of any collection.

Not that scary

THe movie was a great creative idea that really hasnt been done before. The acting wasnt amazing but it was fairly good. One thing about the movie is that when you figure out whats creepy about "the ruins" it sort of isnt scary anymore and instead of being a scary movie its almost a action film. So if your just watching the movie to get scared this inst really the best movie for you. But if you like a little scare and just love watching interesting movies this would be perfect for you.
What's great about it: Great idea, creative
What's not so great: Gets boring, or old
