A Great Android Phone Except for Battery Life

Age:45-54
Phone size:Just right
I had this phone for a little over 3 months and really enjoyed it but could not get past the LOUSY battery life. HTC makes a great phone but they missed the boat on the battery life. At a minimum they should have created a means to shut the 4G radio off which everyone knows uses a lot of battery power - or increase the amp-hour rating of the battery.
I switched to an iPhone 5 (my first Apple product) which allows you to turn 4G off easily and conserve power, right in the same screen as Bluetooth and WiFi Off/On. Night and day battery performance and a lighter slightly larger phone.
What's great about it: Fast 4G Internet, Intuitive features, perfect size
What's not so great: Battery Life
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Not what it's cracked up to be

I was looking for a replacement for my Dyson DC14 and thought I found it. I'm an engineer and usually research products thoroughly before I buy but took a chance on this one because I was unable to try it out in a store. The Shark Pro is well made but in my opinion lacks the engineering and ergonomics of the Dyson. The unit is top heavy and frequently tips over when using the crevice tool or brush - which is made worse by the hose which is too short. The cord exits near the bottom of the unit and is constantly being run over by the vacuum. The Dustaway attachment cannot be used w/o a cleaning pad; with the Dyson I can add several felt-lined floor cleaning attachments. To use the crevice tool or brush you must insert them into the top of the handle which is heavy and awkward to hold. Emptying the dust cup is a 2 handed operation that puts you near the dust and debris. With the Dyson, it's all done with one hand by pushing a single button - I empty the canister by placing it low inside a trash can or dump it into a spare grocery bag sprayed with water to capture the dust plume. Looks like I'm going back to Dyson - you get what you pay for.
What's great about it: Good suction, main unit is well made
What's not so great: Tips over constantly, hose it too short, cord exits at bottom and is always in the way
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This disc captures a concert performance by the popular rock band Styx. The DVD offers a standard full-frame transfer. English soundtracks are rendered in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Stereo. There are neither subtitles nor closed captions on this release. Supplemental materials include an interview with guitarist and singer Tommy Shaw, a history of the band, a discography, footage from the tour, and a still photo gallery. This is an excellent disc for fans of the band. Songs performed include "Too Much Time on My Hands," "Come Sail Away," "The Best of Times," "Lady," "Grand Illusion," and a dozen others.

A Good DVD for your collection
on April 27, 2008

This is a decent DVD for the price. Great song selection and concert footage from their 1996 show in Illinois.
Styx sounds almost as good as when I saw them live back in the early 80's.
Although the DVD indicates it's mixed in Dolby 5.1 there's no center channel content so technically it's not true Dolby 5.1 audio. But it still sounds very good, especially for 1999.
All things considered, it's a good DVD for your collection.
What's great about it: Great live performance w/ Dennis DeYoung, like the good old days, good video quality, great song selection
What's not so great: Dolby 5.1 audio but no center channel content
I would recommend this to a friend!

iPhone 5 features a 4" Retina display, the powerful A6 chip, an 8.0MP iSight camera with panorama, ultrafast wireless, iOS 6 and iCloud. Yet it's the thinnest, lightest iPhone ever.

Great phone in general, but not compared to others
By broomulack from NYC area
If you're using a smartphone for the first time, you'll love this phone. Those who have used Iphones will like it as well. Those of you coming from Android or even Blackberry would likely find this lacking in a lot of very basic and logical features that you now take as a matter of course. Like:
• No blinking LED for notifications - those of us who have gotten used to keeping the phone silent and knowing we have messages waiting by the blinking LED - no ability to do this
• Notifications ring in ear while on phone - you'll be in the middle of a call, and suddenly a text will come in and your eardrum will burst because the notification goes full on through the earpiece. Not only will the damage hurt, but you'll miss what your caller is saying if they happen to be the one speaking when it comes through. You can flick the switch to "silent" while on a call and avoid this, but who wants to have to do that every time a call comes in?
• No file manager/sd card - a well-known issue, but using it for the first time (or rather not having it available to use) is very annoying
• Can't email files - Apple made a big deal about the ability to email pictures from an email draft, but that's all you can email. If you're a business user like me, and you email Office docs and/or PDF files, you're out of luck.
• No toggles for Bluetooth or wifi - it's the long way or the highway my friend!
• No envelope for text messages - related somewhat to the blinking LED. If you've got messages waiting, you won't know unless you are on the home screen which has the icon for your email/text program - unless you keep those particular icons on the dock.
• Can't talk and surf - a Verizon issue (I think Sprint too) but this is annoying - I've spent the last year-plus talking on Bluetooth or speaker and surfing the web while doing so, now I can't because the phone doesn't haef a second radio???
• No user dictionary - those of us who use Android and add words to our dictionaries in order to have them be available while typing are out of luck. You can add some words in the background (in settings) but unlike Android, you don't have the option to show a bunch of words as you type.
• No Swype - another thing I knew going in but I underestimated how annoying it was going to be to have to type every letter again and take 3x as long to send a message as I was used to.
Battery life isn't all that great, not horrible but coming from a Razr Maxx, this thing is pretty short.
All in all, a pretty good phone but not very comprehensive. You'll get more features out of Android, but again, if you are new to smartphones or coming from an earlier Iphone, have at it. You'll love it.

Try shutting 4G off when high speed data isn't needed - like during standby times.
Go to: Settings/General/Cellular/Enable LTE
Makes a huge difference on battery life

Excellent receiver!
By TomTNH from Southern, NH
This is my second Yamaha AV receiver, which is replacing my Yamaha Z7. The only reason for the change is because the Z7 doesn't support 3D, thus requiring a more complicated hook-up of my blu-ray player to my 3D TV and receiver. The Z7 (which is still working perfectly) is now serving in another room, providing top-notch sound for a non 3D system.
I chose the RX-A3030 based upon reviews, the feature set, and my past experience with Yamaha. (Before my Z7, I had a Denon which unfortunately experienced a number of problems and had to be replaced twice.) Based on my experience with the Z7, I had much more confidence in the RX-A3030.
I have a 7.2 speaker configuration ( two subs) and the RX-A3030 delivers beautifully. Setup was straightforward and the automatic YPAO did a superb job fine tuning the system for the odd acoustics in my Great Room. Admittedly, I'm not good about reading manuals and written instructions ... but that didn't seem to matter here. The on-screen setup menu is relatively easy to navigate. For those with less AV experience, the RX-A3030 makes it easy to get up and running quickly and yet, for those who want to dig deep into the settings and make manual configurations, the capability is there as well. I'm even using the free Android app on my Galaxy S4 to adjust settings "on the fly".
Sound-wise, the RX-A3030's DSP's deliver an oustanding sound field that help make the movies come to life. I even love the "Sports" DSP, which I activate when watching games on TV.
The only negative thing I have to say about this unit is that the included remote control isn't back-lit., making it a bit difficult to find the right button when watching a movie in a darkened room.
Finally, based upon my online research, I Best Buy had this receiver priced competitively, and with the reward zone points I earned from this purchase, I'll have a certificate to look forward to using on a future purchase. I ordered this BestBuy.com and it was delivered within just a few days. Great!

Vizio 75 TV
By DrJerry
This TV is fantastic. I was a bit concerned about the Vizio name. It doesn't have the reputation of Samsung or LG. I gave it a shot, and I have to say I am very happy. The quality is there, along with options that are found on TVs costing thousands more.

Not Surprised....

....I own 3 Vizio TV's and have been very happy with them. Customer service has been very good with short wait times.
I cannot say that for LG appliances after absolutely horrific experiences with their customer service and hard-line warranty policies - and would NEVER take a chance buying an LG TV.

Using Android technology, this Sony 4K HDR TV includes an array of film, TV and app choices. This 75-inch ultra-slim design features wall mounting or tabletop display, with wires hidden cleanly behind the console. The 4K technology in this Sony 4K HDR TV produces coloring similar to natural lighting.

Terrible customer service, ARC does not work
By uscdentist
Everything was working well for the first 4 months and then the audio to the Bowers and Wilkins Panorama2 died. Went to the local Magnolia store who sent out technicians with a new Sound Bar only to find out that the TV is the problem
I was told that for the TV, I would have to call Sony for any repairs. Spent 3 hours on the phone with Sony Tech service and at the end, they finally agreed to send a tech out as they said there is a problem with Audio Return Channel.
I received a call a few days later stating that the parts are on back order. 3 weeks later, the parts were finally in. Trying to schedule a time for the repair is very difficult. Basically 10AM-1PM window Monday through Friday.
Tech was supposed to come today after i took the day off from work. I received a call at 9:30AM saying he couldn't make it as the other tech was not certified. The TV is too heavy for one man to work on. This is after I pulled the TV off the wall mount. Now it's sitting on the floor waiting for repair. I guess I'll have to take another day off!
Good luck!!

Sony Customer Service
November 20, 2016
The TV is defective, Best Buy can't service it and Sony blows the service call?
After just 4 months, this should be on them - I would demand a replacement from Sony and if they refuse, from Best Buy. Request to speak with Best Buy Executive Customer Support, they have the authority to make this right.
