The hit teen comedy Mean Girls debuts on DVD with a standard full-frame transfer that fails to preserve the original theatrical aspect ratio. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, while a second English soundtrack has been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. English and Spanish subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by director Mark Waters, screenwriter Tina Fey, and producer Lorne Michaels. They provide many humorous moments during their discussion, which is dominated by the director and the screenwriter. They are full of praise for the cast. Deleted scenes with optional commentary by Waters and Fey, a blooper reel, three making-of featurettes, and the film's original theatrical trailer round out this release. While this disc is fine for what it is, the film is also available in a widescreen edition. That DVD is preferable to this one.
