The teen comedy Saved! debuts on DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. English, Spanish, and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by stars Jena Malone and Mandy Moore and a second commentary track recorded by director Brian Dannelly along with producer Sandy Stern and writer Michael Urban. Deleted scenes, bloopers, a making-of featurette, and the original theatrical trailer round out this first-rate solid release from MGM/UA.

The movie had a lot of twists in the plot. The twist had a negative and positive influence on the movie. It was nice that you could not guess what exactly was going to happen but at the same time it took a lot away from the story of the movie.
What's great about it: Lots of twists
What's not so great: lots of twists

Barry B. Benson (voice of Jerry Seinfeld) is your average honeybee. Despite having recently received his diploma from bee college and being virtually guaranteed a bright future in honey, Barry feels he has the skills to pursue a number of different career paths and resents the fact that his employment opportunities are strictly limited to producing the sweet nectar. Upon breaking away from the hive and developing a friendship with an insect-loving New York florist (voice of Renée Zellweger), Barry makes the shocking discovery that human beings eat honey in mass quantities. Having finally found his calling in life, the infuriated Barry decides to sue the human race for stealing all of the honey that his fellow bees work so hard to produce.

I am a fan of Jerry Seinfeld and I was disappointed with this movie. The movie was advertised as a family movie that even young adults could appreciate (this did not hold true). This is still a acceptable movie for children to see and they will likely be entertained by it.
What's great about it: Some humorous moments
What's not so great: did not live up to hype

Cuba Gooding Jr. stars in Boat Trip, released on DVD from Artisan in this unrated widescreen version with three minutes of footage edited back in. The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5. Surround, 2.0 Stereo, and an optional audio trivia track. Subtitles are available in Spanish and closed captions are available in English. Special features start off with the featurettes "Tanning Tips" and "Making Of." Also includes bloopers, outtakes, and previews for other movies. Artisan has also released a Boat Trip DVD as an R-rated version.

decent comedy

This movie has a lot of comedic moments and keeps you interested for the most part. The beginning is a little slow and the ending is a little corny but the bulk of the movie is good. A movie worth while seeing if you looking for some laughs and a light movie.
What's great about it: a lot of comedic moments
What's not so great: not always politically correct

John Hamburg's romantic comedy Along Came Polly makes its debut on DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. English, French, and Spanish soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. Subtitles are accessible in all three of those languages as well. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by Hamburg. He delivers numerous compliments to the various cast members, and often discusses how purposefully he attempted to play the scenes against each other in order to maximize their emotional and comedic power. Deleted scenes, bloopers, and a cute featurette on Rodolfo, the blind ferret in the film, round out this quality release from Universal.

This movie is filled with comedic moments. Stiler plays his funny neurotic character while aniston plays a free spirit commitment phobic. The combination of characters and story line keeps the view engaged and laughing. Definitely a worthy movie to have in your movie collection.
What's great about it: tons of comedic moments

The second movie was a huge upgrade from the first one. The plot was better and kept you more entertained. The movie helps marvel fans understand better the complex character of the silver surfer. A good movie for super hero fans to have in their collection.
What's great about it: Huge improvement from the first one
What's not so great: still a lot needs to be done

The Odd Couple's Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau re-team in Grumpy Old Men, which comes to DVD with a standard full-frame transfer that fails to preserve the original theatrical aspect ratio of the film. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. English, French, and Spanish subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials are limited to a trailer and production notes. This is a substandard DVD that should have some more whistles and bells considering the film's status as a sleeper hit.

Best comedic duo

Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon were one of the best comedic duos of all time. Lemmon and Matthau play life-long feuding friends. When a new neighbor moves in they begin to fight for her attention. This movie has a lot of great comedic moments and is great addition for any movie collection.
What's great about it: great acting, comedy, plot
What's not so great: none

This action opus inspired by the popular television series of the 1970s has been given a well-rounded presentation for its release on DVD. This edition of S.W.A.T. has been given a letterboxed transfer to disc in the widescreen aspect ratio of 2.40:1, which has also been enhanced for anamorphic playback on 16 x 9 monitors. (A pan-and-scan full-screen version is also available.) The original English language audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital 5.1, as has an alternate dubbed track in French; optional subtitles in English and French are also included. Among the bonus materials are two audio commentary tracks -- one featuring director Clark Johnson and members of the cast, the other featuring screenwriters David Ayer and David McKenna and the film's technical consultant -- as well as a collection of gags and bloopers, several deleted scenes, three short documentaries on the production of the film, a look back at the original television series, filmographies for the cast and crew, and more.

Good action movie

This movie gives a little insight to the kind of job SWAT officers have to perform. The acting could be a little better, but, the action keeps you into the movie.
What's great about it: good plot, good action
What's not so great: some dull acting

The "Complete Trilogy" is right. All three movies are here, and that would be a pretty full meal in itself, but along with the 339 minutes of movie on three discs -- all transferred about as well as anyone ever imagined they could be for the home screen, with bright, solid colors and resolution that reveals picture details that might have previously escaped viewers, plus ear-popping sound -- we also get ten hours of extra features. Each disc leads off its bonus section with a 14-minute making-of featurette, done at the time of each respective movie's release, about the evolution of ideas for the plots, the design of the sets and props, the way in which the score was conceived, and the makeup, casting, etc. None is revelatory, but it also would have been silly not to have included each in this package. Much more interesting is "The Making of the Trilogy," three new 15-minute featurettes in which the creators explain themselves better in all of the areas covered by the older featurettes, especially where the special effects and makeup are concerned, though each also reveals some superficiality in the thinking of the producers, such as Bob Gale's statement that no Hollywood movie had ever been built on the notion that every adult was once a kid (there's a movie called It's a Wonderful Life that spends a good bit of time on that very subject). Not that this matters -- the makers came up with two eminently enjoyable and one genuinely funny, touching movie, and it's fascinating to see how they did it, to learn that the movie was nearly sunk by its PG-rated orientation (with R-rated comedies like Fast Times at Ridgemont High making a fortune, every studio thought Back to the Future was too "soft," except for Disney, where they felt the script was too "dirty" because of the implication of defacto incestuous attraction between two of the characters), and to see how Michael J. Fox managed to get the lead role after shooting had already commenced with Eric Stoltz in the part. And then there are the sets of commentary tracks on each disc, one a live question-and-answer session by Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale before an audience of film students; another an "enhanced" interview with Michael J. Fox (who appears in a window in the upper right-hand corner of the screen) discussing the movie and his role in it; and a commentary track by Gale and Neil Canton, which is deliberately keyed to carry the viewer past the boundaries of the other two commentaries. Disc two contains a similar range of material, but without Fox's enhanced reminiscences; instead, we get a selection of some substantial outtakes from the movie, with the optional accompaniment of Bob Gale's commentary explaining why they were deleted, and an array of outtakes, including flubbed lines and cues. Disc three, in addition to two commentaries, contains one violent scene that was cut out of the third movie, with Gale's explanation of why. The commentary is a little bit thin by this time, as though the participants lost some of their own continuity, even engaging in some strained and limp humor that doesn't quite work. They do admit to an error in the script during the first ten minutes of the movie, but otherwise the remarks here are less focused, and seem to suffer from some of the same weariness that overtook the makers in shooting the third movie. Each disc is dual-layered and offers a seamless, invisible transition, even on older players. Each one opens to a three-tiered menu that is very easy to use, with bonus features that advance automatically on the selection list as they play out. There are also production stills, storyboards, conceptual art, and promotional and marketing materials presented in an interactive format, and each disc offers a DVD-ROM function (for those playing these discs on their computers) that includes the original script for each movie. These extras all may be a little bit more than the trilogy deserves in the total scheme of cinema -- none of the Back to the Future movies is remotely as significant as, say, The Birth of a Nation, Citizen Kane, etc. -- but it is all interesting to take in, one movie at a time, one day at a time, and enlightening about how important luck is, along with talent and bold intentions, in making a successful film (or two or three).

One of the best trilogies out there. Rarely do you have a trilogy that each movie is as good or better than the previous. I liked it so much I got it as a gift for a friend.
What's great about it: all 3 movies are classics, all 3 have great plot

Alek Keshishian's With Honors comes to DVD with a standard full-frame transfer that fails to preserve the original theatrical aspect ratio. English and French soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. There are no subtitles, but the English soundtrack is closed-captioned. There are no supplemental materials of any consequence, making it difficult to recommend this subpar Warner Brothers release to anyone other than a fan of the film.
