Great movie

I'm not that big into Star Trek, but this movie blew me away. It has great special effects and keeps you interested from beginning to end. My only regret is that it is not long enough. I'll have to wait till the next one to satisfy my new craving. Blu-ray is the way to go for picture and sound and this film delivers the best of both.
What's great about it: Great special effects, great acting, interesting story
What's not so great: To me it felt a little short, so I guess I'm just going to have to wait till the next one

Season two answers many of the cliffhangers

If you have seen the 1st season on lost than you know if ends with ALOT of questions that need to be resolved. I remember when watching the season finale and was like c'mon...I really wanted to know what was in the hatch. This season takes us further into the island and explore more of its mysteries such as the others, other hatches, other survivors, and much more. It is a pretty good season I'm just not happy that they get betrayed by one of their own. Other than that this season is really good at making us wonder about further mysteries on the island. This is much slower than season 1, but now we know more about the characters and this show is still extremely entertaining.
What's great about it: Great acting, amazing story, many questions are answered
What's not so great: Slower paced than Season 1, but takes time developing characters

They screwed up DEADPOOL

I was a little too pumped when I saw this movie (like I was when I saw Ghost Rider) and had higher expectations than what the movie delivered. The beginning was alright and did not disappoint, Wolverine was supposed to fall in love with Lady Deathstrike not a nobody, but alright I'll let it slide. Deadpool....the most disappointing part of the movie. Ryan Reynolds was perfect for the role, and did nothing to upset me...what upset me is that I know the powers Deadpool is supposed to have and being Baraka from Mortal Kombat and having Cyclops' powers are not part of it. They should have just created the original Deadpool and gave him his suit and had him fight with his swords, would have been a million times better no exaggeration. It was a must for Gambit to be in the movie, since he wasn't in any other x-men movies, which had upset me. Sabertooth was incredible and he saved the movie, because he was much better than the Sabertooth from the original x-men movie. Last Hugh Jackman is of course the perfect actor to play wolverine and he also did not disappoint. There were some good action scenes and they told his story well.
What's great about it: Some action scenes, some of the story was comic book accurate, saber tooth, gambit
What's not so great: Deadpool....Ryan Reynolds was great tho

My Favorite Sci-Fi show
on August 20, 2009

Just about every time Lost was on tv I missed it because I am always working, but now I just buy most of the shows that catch my interest and Lost is right up at the top. There is so much detail in the picture compared to when I just watched it on tv (whenever I had the chance) and it sounds amazing. If you have surround sound you have to watch the pilot of this series because it is incredible. The sounds of the engines still active, the tension of the plane falling apart, and people screaming in panic all around you really creates a unique experience that can't be delivered through tv speakers. Each actor does a superb job at making this experience seem real and enticing. My favorite has to be Sawyer a redneck womanizer, who seems to care only for himself (in the 1st season). Each episode is just another piece to the puzzle to not only finding out who these people are, but how they unknowingly have met before, and what mysteries are hidden in the jungle.
What's great about it: The Pilot was amazing, unique characters, close to the best acting I've seen in a tv show, and more
What's not so great: Nothing

Heart of Darkness
on August 11, 2009

The reason I bought this movie was because it was in almost everyone's top favorite/best movies made list that I could find online. As I watched the movie I started to get the strange feeling that I had already seen the movie (though I never did). The story just seemed so familiar and it wasn't until I heard, "The horror, the horror" that I was like "wow" Joseph Conrad's Heart of Darkness. I had read the book in my honors english class in highschool. Though that book focused on British Imperialism, this movie focuses on American "Imperialism" or act to try and control the world/Vietnam. The acting was surprisingly better than what I had assumed (me not knowing any of the actors besides Harrison Ford). The movie sounded incredible on surround sound. You could hear helicopters, bullets, explosions, and wildlife all around you. It was cool that I knew the director from the Godfather, and that gave me a litte reassurance that this would be worth my time. Bottom line I don't regret ever buying this movie because it was very well done considering it was produced in 1971. If you want to read the book it isn't very long only 70 some pages and then you could reward yourself by watching the movie.
What's great about it: Heart of Darkness, Capola, the acting, and story
What's not so great: I would have preferred that each version had their own disk

Good DC movie

Zack Snyder did a really good job of developing the characters through the use of flashbacks. For a 3 hour movie it sure didn't seem that long. There was not one actor that I didn't believe to had done a great job playing their part especially Roschach. Roschach (the guy wearing the ink blot mask) was by far my favorite. He had no weapons other than a grapple gun, if you consider that a weapon, and he really used his knowledge and anger to punish those who prey on the innocent. My favorite line is not the one that was in all the previews but when he is in prison and he says to the prisoners, "You just don't get it, I'm not locked in here with you, you are locked in here with ME!" There is alot of bone breaking action, suspense, and they throw in a few laughs as well. I conclude by saying this should more than likely be in every blu-ray collection unless you hate superhero movies.
What's great about it: Roschach, charcters, acting, more than enough extras, suspense, great action,...
What's not so great: nothing really

Best WWII Series
on July 19, 2009

To me this is my favorite series to come from HBO. It is just as good as Saving Private Ryan if not better. I really liked how it slowed down the war and really showed the hardships due to lack of supplies both medical and ammunition as well as harships due to weather, disease, and infection. This truly is a must have for anyone who has blu-ray and surround sound because the movie will truly suck you in and you won't want to stop until you are out of disks to play. Another thing that I really liked was the interviews with the REAL LIFE heroes of the series that start off each episode.
What's great about it: Directed by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg, realistic storyline, great acting
What's not so great: I wished there were more episodes

Pretty good Disney movie

Reading other reviews I do see why they included a dvd with the blu-ray for those who have a dvd player in their car. For awhile I've wanted to buy this because my girlfriend really liked the movie, but that $35 price tag kept staring me in the face. I understand the price being a blu-ray, having a dvd, and the digital copy of the film all in one package but all I wanted was the blu-ray so I was like nay nay. When I saw it for $24, I snatched it up real fast because this is a great movie and even more spectacular on blu-ray.
What's great about it: Detail on blu-ray, $23.99 price tag, great family movie
What's not so great: I wished they had two versions one just the blu-ray and the other this package like Walle

Though the six-month wait for Fight Club's DVD release nearly drove many of the film's fans crazy, 20th Century Fox gets it right the first time. Instead of releasing a bare-bones disc first and a beefier version months later, this feature-filled, double-disc package transforms David Fincher's caustic, pitch-black satire from one of 1999's most controversial films into one of 2000's best DVDs. A pristine 2.40:1 anamorphic, widescreen transfer and Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound get the first disc off to a great start, preserving all of the visual and sonic details that make the film rewarding on repeat viewings. Four entertaining and informative commentaries -- one by Fincher, Brad Pitt, Helena Bonham Carter, and Edward Norton; a separate commentary by Fincher; another by Fight Club novelist Chuck Palahniuk and screenwriter Jim Uhls; and one by visual effects supervisor Kevin Haug, costume designer Michael Kaplan, production designer Alex McDowell and cinematographer Jeff Cronenweth -- are an audio crash course in directing, acting, and special effects techniques. Though the features on the first disc might be more than enough for many viewers, the second disc rewards diehard Fight Club fans with a bonanza of bonuses that would be overwhelming if they weren't neatly organized into five categories. "Work" digs even deeper into the film's technical achievements and provides in-depth explanations of some of the film's most impressive and involved effects, such as the opening credits' ride through the narrator (Edward Norton)'s brain, the dream-like plane crash and sex sequences, and the photogrammetry technique used in other key scenes. "Missing" presents seven cut scenes and alternate takes, including Marla's (Helena Bonham Carter) infamous "I want to have your abortion" scene and other, more subtly different sequences that lend insight into the choices made while constructing the film. "Art" features galleries of the storyboards, pre-production paintings, costumes, and makeup (an especially impressive and funny section -- the "before" and "after" makeup designs look like reconstructive surgery in reverse). And if the disc's other features are primers on filmmaking, then "Advertising" is a run-through of basic marketing concepts. The promotional galleries include publicity stills and artwork, Internet-only commercials, the theatrical teaser and trailer, and a whopping 17 U.S. and international TV ads, some of which seem to be for slightly different, yet related films (in an attempt to appeal to viewers put off by the film's violence, the "Girl's Club" commercials make Fight Club look like an offbeat romantic comedy). A transcript of Edward Norton's appearance at Yale University's Film Society also addresses his and Fincher's concern about how the film's violence should or could be interpreted. Finally, "Crew" profiles the cast and crew and includes biographical blurbs on everyone from Fincher to the Dust Brothers, whose own commentary and score track unfortunately had to be jettisoned due to lack of room. Indeed, the set uses every available milimeter of space on the discs and the packaging to enhance the viewer's experience. The beautifully designed fold-out case includes the booklet "How To Start A Fight," which features quotes from Palahniuk, Uhls, the production team, and Fox 2000 executives about the process of turning the cutting-edge, underground novel into a big-budget, big-studio picture. In a clever move, the booklet also mixes in excerpts of positive and negative reviews from writers ranging from Roger Ebert and Kenneth Turan to anonymous cyber-critics, highlighting Fight Club's polarizing effect. But even the film's harshest critics would have to concede that the the time, care and details put into the DVD set the standard for the format. Fight Club fans, meanwhile, will find weeks' worth of lovingly obsessive features and information to pore over. Though it was originally planned to be a very simple relase, thankfully this densely packed set gives one of Fox's most interesting films of the '90s the treatment it deserves.

I can't believe I never saw this movie before now

I can't say what kind of movie this is without spoiling the surprise (for those who haven't seen it). I have to be honest, I have for a long time judged this movie by its cover and for that reason had never seen it. Brad Pitt holding a bar of soap just didn't catch my interest, but my friend told me I was an idiot for not seeing it so I bought it, watched it and I can see where he is coming from. First of all the acting was superv, the fighting was sweet, the stunts were hilarious, and the ending put this movie over the top. This is a great movie that should be in every collection...I was ignorant to not put this is mine any time sooner.
What's great about it: Edward Norton, Brad Pitt, Great Plot and totally catches you by suprise

After years of anticipation, Schindler's List finally comes to the DVD market thanks to Amblin Entertainment and Universal Pictures. For some, the prolonged wait will no doubt stem disappointment, as Steven Spielberg's personal triumph is presented without any insight into the filmmaking process or more into the actual events. Your initial enjoyment of the disc will depend on your expectations going in, though it should be noted that what is included is quite something. Technically, the double-sided disc with digitally enhanced picture and sound is nothing short of spectacular. The stark black-and-white contrast in the 1.85:1 widescreen image is heartbreakingly beautiful, as are both the 5.1 Dolby Digital and DTS audio tracks, which underline John Williams' powerful score during the film's most hushed and tragic moments. The main extras on the disc are split up between the "Voices from the List" documentary and a featurette on the Shoah Foundation, the organization Spielberg helped create to give voice to Holocaust survivors. Clocking in at 77 minutes, the "Voices" piece is a soul-wrenching account of the Nazi invasion up to the end of the war from various surviving members of Schindler's list. Their incomparable tales of hate and despair create a gripping piece that gives unparalleled humanity and first-hand insight to what exactly Schindler did for these people, making the documentary the perfect companion to the film. As a bonus, the story of the Shoah Foundation has also been included. Narrated by Morgan Freeman, the featurette explains the genesis of the group and its goal to educate and document any living survivor of the Holocaust. While the documentary does tend to beseech its viewers by the end for additional monetary support (in addition to the fold-out donation certificate inside the booklet), the clip offers a fine view of the importance of the group in an educational and historical context. Rounding out the features are a collection of cast and crew bios and additional information on Oskar Schindler. The packaging comes in a book-like case that's also available with the full-screen edition and the Collector's Gift Set (which comes complete with a bulky Plexiglas casing, photo book, certificate of authenticity, and a film slide).

Good Spielberg Movie

The movie moved kinda slow, but I think it was neccessary to see Mr. Schindler's development. This is a movie about a greedy man, who after seeing his fellow country men murder thousands of Jews realizes that he is only growing rich through people who are inevitably going to die from this inhumane torture. He then takes action, seeing what he can do to improve their way of living, but it doesn't stop there.
The movie was a little long, but after saying that it was worth every minute watching it. I have to agree with the previous reviews that this is a movie that is meant to be watched once in a great while and is not intended to be seen by children because of vast nudity and graphic violence. The ending is very sad and moving. All done and said Liam Neeson did a fantastic job and he has yet to disappoint me.
What's great about it: Liam Neeson, Great story, interesting and sad.
What's not so great: Any movie that you have to flip over in order to watch the rest of is a little long.

how do wireless speakers work ? How expensive are they

I thought the "rock" speakers advertised on tv were wireless.
No the rock speakers are not wireless unfortunately. There are two different kind of "wireless speakers." The first kind is not really wireless, but helps get rid of some of the wires and how it does this is there is a wireless transmitter and receiver offered by Rocketfish (Brand name) for either $100 or $105. You will need a receiver (yamaha, onkyo, denon, pioneer, etc.) where you will hook up a transmitter to two speaker terminals and that will send a signal to the Rocketfish receiver which will have two speaker wires going to those two speakers and the receiver portion will power those. Now there are some wireless speakers also offered through rocketfish, but there is a catch to these. You have to use a ton of batteries and it will only work for (if I remember right) 10 hours, but you get rid of the cords and if you have rechargeable batteries maybe this will be the right way to go for you. My personal opinion about wireless speakers is that it is more hassle than what its worth since there are very few options to the quality of speakers you can get and they often cut out due to phone calls, taxi/cop radios, and other frequencies can interfere with that signal. If you really want speakers in your backyard (I'm assuming since you were looking at either the insignia rock speakers or the speakercraft rock speakers that you don't plan on putting them in your living room...unless you like the primitive look jk) then you should run speaker wire to them just for ease and quality purposes. If you don't feel comfortable doing that I'm sure there is a Geek Squad Service that would do that for you.

Small speakers

I have an Insignia 19" TV/DVD combo that I would like to add speakers to, in order to enhance the sound. Don't want anything that dwarfs the tv, just something in a small size that would compliment the tv.
Buy computer speakers that have just your regular red and white audio cables. Bose has a pair for 99.99 that work very well, but it is entirely up to you.

Multi-zone DVD player hard to find

Many DVD devices are billed as being able to play disks from zones other than the US (1), but I have returned many machines shotrly after purchase. Staffers have so far not been able to identify the solution. Is it possible to try some of these DVD's in the store first? Cost has not been an issue, as most of the players are reasonable.
Best Buy doesn't have any international dvd players (meaning it can only play dvds from the U.S.) You will have to get one online somewhere else.

speakers that plug into wall

I have no available USB port to connect both cables to computer, I need the old kind with one cable that plugs into wall outlet. Do you carry these?
This is a very vague question, with no idea of what you are connecting and the fact that there are hundreds of cables it is hard to answer the question. What it sounds like is that you need an extra usb port where I would be shocked if Bestbuy didn't have some kind of adapter that would allow you to switch between usb connections.

Where can i get American Acoustics sub speaker for floor speakers

I've never heard of the brand American Acoustics, so I'm going to assume you mean an American company that produces subwoofers. There is only one that comes to mind and that is Martin Logan. They have two models the Dynamo and the Abyss. The Dynamo has more than enough kick for most home theaters, but if you want absolute raw power than I suggest you go with the Abyss.

blue tooth outputs

i was wondering if it was possible to be able to hook a bluetooth speaker up to multiple speakers????
I don't know if you mean wireless speakers, but you can buy wireless transmitters. Each transmitter is good for 2 speakers. They are made by rocketfish, which is a pretty reliable brand.

Sound Vibrations from TV

I purchased a 60" Samsung when the sound is turned up there is a vibration. I do not have external speakers and was wondering if that might solve the problem. Geek Squad set up the set and I have not changed the settings.
To be completely honest, the sound quality of speakers on tv's are as terrible as they come. You are probably looking at 40 watts of speaker power at tops. External speakers would be one way to go. You would just have to purchase some computer speakers and have it plugged into the audio output on the tv. I highly suggest you just save your money or apply for a Best Buy credit card and just buy a receiver and two additional speakers (you can always add on to your receiver to give you a surround sound instead of a stereo set up, which is two front speakers).
