ManekiNeko's Reviews

Adrien Brody and Illeana Douglas star in this offbeat comedy, which has been given a solid presentation for its release on DVD. Dummy has been given a letterboxed transfer at the widescreen aspect ratio of 1.85:1, which has also been enhanced for anamorphic playback on 16 x 9 monitors. The dialogue is in English, with optional subtitles in Spanish and closed captioning in English. Bonus material on this release includes several deleted scenes, a commentary track featuring the "Dummy" from the film, a trivia quiz, and a short feature on ventriloquism.

This movie is simply amazing! Each character (though, some are generally unlikeable) has their own stories and their own "obsessions" so to speak. Watching them interact with each other, and even not interacting with each other, sheds a lot of light on to who they are as people. Each character is well written and very, very well acted.
Adrien Brody portrays his character brilliantly, as if he weren't even acting, he makes the character his own. He displays incredible talent in this movie (as well as others, of course). Everything he says, and even the scenes where he's not saying anything, he nailed the expressions and body language of his character perfectly, and nothing was exaggerated or simplified.
This movie has definitely moved up to the top of my favorites list.
One thing though: it has a LOT of bad language, that is more prevelant than anything else in the reasons for rated "R" section.
What's great about it: Deep characters, they all have their own stories, mostly: Adrien Brody's acting!
What's not so great: Not long enough, and I would have liked to see more about Steven's past, did he have a traumatic childhood?
I would recommend this to a friend!
