Protect USB ports with this Griffin Technology BreakSafe cable. It lets you power devices from your computer without putting ports at risk from movement or drops. Insert the USB-C side into your port, and the magnetic components of this Griffin Technology BreakSafe cable break easily away if someone trips over the cord or you pull on it suddenly.

I was surprised how disappointing this cable was, after reading the positive review on Best Buy. I as looking for a replacement for the old MagSafe cables, for use with my new 2016 MacBook Pro. The cable separates under the weight of its own cable. It may be satisfactory for a permanent desktop installation, where you don't plan to move the laptop, but want the safety of the MagSafe type connection to prevent accidents. But for use on your lap or if you are moving the unit, it is frustrating and does not hold nearly as well as the previous MagSafe, which in turn never held as well as the original. It didn't take long before I unplugged it and went back to the original cable. This thing is going back unforutnately.

Excellent Action Cam

The Sony FDR-X1000V is an all around excellent action cam. Image quality is sharp and detailed, colors are vibrant with pop, white balance seems to be overall pretty good (and can be adjusted to your liking in the app),low light performance is best in class, image stabilization works well, GPS overlay is great for videos that represent a journey, such as motorsports. Splash proof durability is better than GoPro without a case. TripPod type adapters available via 3rd party to adapt to other mount systems, so you are NOT limited to Sony. All action cam batteries leave a bit to be desired, but Sony is better than most. Bonus if you have an Sony RX1000 and share the batteries. The Play Memories App, when paired to the camera offers a wealth of settings and is far easier to navigate than the side LCD. Use the LCD for quick access to WiFi and turning off the camera, pair your phone and use the app for all the advanced settings and configuration. It will save you a lot of the prev/next/enter shuffle.

Disappointed in GoPro
on October 22, 2015

from Denver, CO
This purchase was my second GoPro, the first being a GoPro3 Black. I had a lot of issues with the GoPro 3, some pretty well known, but I thought 2 generations later, that GoPro would be the way to go in action cams.
The Subjective: 1) Some folks like the size and forward facing square of the GoPro. I always thought that was one of it's weakest features. It isn't in the least bit aerodynamic and catches wind something fierce if you use it for motorcycling as I do. I have always been a bigger fan of the bullet/tube type cameras such as the Contour or Ion, followed by cameras like the Drift, Sony, etc. (2) The menu system is terrible. The text is tiny and things are buried in menu levels. Even turning on WiFi is more difficult than it needs to be. Again, these are subjective, but they are dislikes.
Cons: (1) Sound quality from the mono-mic is relatively poor. There is no good wind reduction/sound cancelling. For skiing, bicycling maybe not so much a problem. At higher speeds it isn't good. (2) Having to use a 3.5 mic adapter to Mini-USB type cable. Just another cable to come loose and have problems (3) Poor video quality for the money. It isn't that is that bad, but for a $499 camera, it should be better. Video quality of the Sony FDR-X1000V is superior. The GoPro only really captures good images in superior lighting conditions. (4) Poor battery life. Especially with WiFi enabled. Battery life isn't good on any of these action cams, but GoPro is particularly weak. Good thing the batteries are relatively inexpensive. (5) Low Light Performance. While again, not superb on any of the action cam offerings, the GoPro is particularly bad here. The BSI (Back Side Illuminated) sensor on the Sony has much better low light performance. (6) Lack of image stabilization. Maybe not everyone needs this and perhaps I should have included it in "subjective," but if you are using the camera for a sport with a lot of vibration such as motorsports, it is a great feature. I would think a lot of sports could benefit from it and kind of a glaring omission in the GoPro by Gen4.
Like all reviews, it is only one persons opinion and I am sure there are plenty of folks from whom the GoPro Hero 4 does everything they could possible ask of an action cam. It simply isn't for me. I returned and exchanged it.

... especially if you are using it strictly as a MicroSDHC, but in addition to using it as a MicroSDHC, I use it along with the included adapter in my digital camera and for reading in my laptop which has an SD memory card slot.
This adapter seems to be a bit "fidgety" where my laptop and camera sometimes don't read the memory card. It may just be a bad sample and I will likely return the card for another, in hopes that the next one has a better adapter.
Either way, it may be a bit of a QC issue.

Ultimate Pocketable Travel Camera
on April 20, 2015

from Denver, CO
In addition to the RX100M3, I own both a FF DSLR and a Sony a6000, but the RX100M3 has become my go to camera for light weight travel. I spend a lot of time touring by motorcycle and the DSLR gear is way to heavy and bulky for most occasions, requiring a lot of extra planning for space, etc. While I found the a6000 has all but replaced the FF DSLR, the RX100M3 has fast become a favorite. It fits easily in a pocket or tank bag, the photo quality if fantastic for its sensor size, really punching well above it's weight in the point and shoot category. Image quality is so good, that it is often compared to cameras much larger and bulkier. This is the camera that is easy to grab and have with you all the time, the one you will *want* to have with you all the time.
The camera is expensive, but if it fits within your budget, it isn't a purchase you will regret.

Nice in concept, but fall short in execution

Verified Purchase:Yes
I had high hopes for this cover, despite the fact it was heavier and bulkier than I prefer. The 360 degree rotation design, adds a lot of bulk and weight to it.
I could have lived with the weight and bulk, had it functioned as I hoped. But the ledges are two shallow to hold the iPad well for anything other than viewing. Well, the one furthest away and with the most up and down angle works fairly well, but the other two, as that angle the iPad, work with varying degrees of failure. The middle one is OK if you don't try to work on the screen much. The one closest to you that angles the iPad the most, is all but useless. That is the one I really do need to work, particularly when using it on a desktop.
I would have given it 2.5 out of 5 if possible, but since it is not, I erred on the side of generosity with 3. I did Returned the case for a refund however.

What's great about it: The 360 degree rotation ability
What's not so great: Ledges are too soft and shallow to work properly

Works well with Plug and Play Ease

The camera connector kit comes with two connectors. One with an SD slot, the other a USB connector intended to be connected directly to the camera. A pleasant surprise with this, it it can also be used to connect other low powered USB devices. The main one I was happy about was the ability to connect a card reader as one of my cameras uses the larger Compact Flash (CF) memory cards. I have also connected one of Apples USB Keyboards. USB Hard Drives are out, unless they are externally powered.
I know a lot of folks felt Apple should have included these in the box. I don't know that I agree with that, as not all iPad users will use the Pad for uploading photographs and therefore many iPad users will never have a use for them. The only two complaints I have (1) As another viewer suggested it is two more items to carry along with the iPad or in your camera bag, and possibly misplace/lose (2) It would have been nice if they would have included (or offer separately), a larger module that would hold CF cards without the need for the cable. or card reader.
What's great about it: Plug and Play, Compact Size, Solid Construction
What's not so great: Another Device to carry and possibly misplace/lose, an additional CF Card module would be nice

Having been a PC user for 20+ and having built my own for most of them I surprised how much I liked the Mac Pro. It is beautifully designed, very well built, a delight to use. I really enjoy using it and plan to upgrade mine in the near future.
What's great about it: Fast, well built, reliable, beautifully designed
What's not so great: Wish the optional hardware RAID card was a little cheaper

GPS not work on US versions of this Camera!!
By Ducks33
Sony AZ1 GPS feature not working with US versions of this camera! This is only for the "NEW" AZ1 with the external GPS located inside the "NEW" Live View GPS remotes.
Look online and you will see that every person (US version) cannot get the GPS to sync with video during editing. It may be fixed in the future, but as of 11/15/14, it is still not working!
If you go on Sony's official website you will notice that they don't even sell the "NEW" Live View GPS remotes. They only sell the "OLDER" Live View remotes without GPS! Sony must realize they can't sell the "NEW" GPS remotes, because the MAIN feature of this remote (GPS) doesn't work!!
I am assuming they needed to get the AZ1 cameras on the selves before Christmas and they would worry the GPS BUG later!!
I guess SONY can't sell their "BRAND NEW" $350 AZ1VR action cam with the caption:
"GPS-COMING SOON" or "GPS, we're still working on it"!!
The GPS bug is NOT affecting the other Sony (AS100/AS20/AS30) action cams with the GPS inside the cameras.
I am giving it 1-Star so people will know about the GPS issue before they spend their money. The camera definitely deserves a higher rating, but if I were to give it 3-stars, nobody would read my review or be informed about this major problem!
The GPS was a major factor for me when selecting this camera over other Action Cams, so that is why I am posting this review to inform people who may be choosing this cam based on the GPS feature. If you don't care about the GPS, then please disregard this review because I still like this Sony Action Cams.
My AZ1 camera by itself works great. The camera is small and light weight, which is nice when riding my bike. The remote, although a little tricky to sync, works good with the camera. But since the GPS (which is housed inside the remote) doesn't work, I think you could save $100 and just buy the AZ1 camera by itself. Then just use the FREE smartphone APP (PlayMemories Mobile) to adjust the AZ1 camera settings. I personally think the APP is easier to use then the remote.
I haven't decided if I will just exchange this camera for another AZ1 without the GPS remote ($100 less) or for the larger Sony Action Cams (AS100).
Another small issue is that the Sony mounts are limited and expensive. I made my own "Sony-GoPro" adapter ($2), so I could use cheaper GoPro mounts. (I went to Home Depot and bought 1/4in-20 x 1in "Socket Set Screw" and a 1in-20 nylon set screws).
If you care about GPS then don't buy this camera until Sony fixes this bug. If GPS in not an issue, then I recommend this camera based on its smaller size, lighter weight and excellent video quality.

As good as the GoPro

I have a GoPro also, I saw this item that was on sale, so I went ahead and purchased it. I have to say that this camera is on Par with the Gopro and doesnt cost as much. The 4K capability is flawless. I actually use this camera more than i use my Gopro. I just wish it had more attachments!

Yes. An Australian company by the name of Knog is just one of many who make lights than can be mounted on your GoPro.

Is it useful for golfers

I use iPhone now,not bad but this has to be better!
I would think any of the action cam offerings could be useful to golfers. One of the hat clip type mounts would probably make for a nice setup.

compatibility with go pro 4 silver edition

I'd entered go pro's webstite an there it says that that the SanDisk Extreme 32GB microSDHC is comptaible with this edition of Go Pro but it says nothing regarding SanDisk Pixtor 32 GB despite the prices are similiar. I want to know if the SanDisk Pixtor 32 GB is compatible with the GoPro Hero4 Silver Edition,
Thank you very much,

Pixtor is a SanDisk brand sold only in Best Buy stores. It is essentially the same card, but by selling it under the "Pixtor" brand is not subject to nationally advertised pricing and price matching for the Extreme. You can use it in your Go Pro with confidence.

is charger and battery included with this camera

Battery is included, a designated battery charger is not. The camera comes with a plug in USB travel adapter and cable, which will allow the battery to be charged in camera.

I would recommend the purchase of an additional battery so you have a charged replacement. If you feel you need a stand alone charger, there are some nice travel chargers out there that can accommodate both AC and your cars DC charging, allowing you to charge a spare at home, in a hotel room or on the road.
