All 22 episodes of Raising Hope, creator Greg Garcia's follow-up to his previous hit show My Name Is Earl, are presented on this release. The sitcom follows the exploits of the blue-collar family forced to raise a baby after their 23-year-old son impregnates a woman who is eventually put to death by the state when their child, Hope, was just six months old.

Two low-level American crooks head to Australia, where they match wits with a kangaroo (who appears to have an intellectual edge on his pursuers) in this broad comedy. Charlie Carbone (Jerry O'Connell) is a hairdresser from Brooklyn whose best friend, Louis Booker (Anthony Anderson), scrapes together a living moving stolen merchandise. Charlie's stepfather, Sal Maggio (Christopher Walken), is a crime kingpin who has loaned Charlie a lot of money and wants to know when he'll get it back; Sal's not especially fond of Louis, especially after he and Charlie accidentally lead the police to a storehouse of burgled goods owned by Sal. Charlie owes Sal a big favor, and Sal wants Charlie and Louis out of his hair for a while, so Sal sends them to Australia, where they're to deliver a large amount of cash to a mysterious Mr. Smith (Marton Csokas). En route to their meeting in the outback, Charlie and Louis accidentally run over a kangaroo, and the half-bright tourists decide to dress the dead marsupial in sunglasses and Louis' favorite jacket for snapshots. However, the animal wasn't as dead as they imagined, and it soon hops away, shortly after Louis realizes the payment to Mr. Smith was in the pocket. Now Louis and Charlie are out to find the fast-moving critter, with the help of Jessie (Estella Warren), a wildlife expert; Mr. Jimmy (David Ngoombujarra), a wilderness guide; and Blue (Bill Hunter), a pilot familiar with the outback.

Two words that sum up this movie are; funny and entertaining. It is a great family movie and kids will enjoy it. It is great mostly because Anthony Anderson is so hillarious! Even though it has some corny parts in it, I still love this movie! The scenery is breathtaking!
What's great about it: Great family movie!
What's not so great: Some corny humor.

Franco Amurri's family comedy Monkey Trouble comes to DVD with a pair of transfers. The widescreen anamorphic transfer preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1, and is preferable to the standard full-frame image. Closed-captioned English soundtracks are rendered in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround. English subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include the trailer, an interactive game, and extra features for those with access to a DVD-ROM drive. This is a solid release from New Line.

Cute Movie!
on September 30, 2008

This movie is great for kids. Thora Birch and the monkey named Dodger are the main actors in this movie and their cute chemistry makes it enjoyable to watch. While it isn't the best movie, it isn't the worst either. You will either get it for the cute monkey or because Thora Birch stars in it. Your kids will enjoy it though!
What's great about it: It's another animal movie!
What's not so great: It isn't the best.

Warner Brothers' release of this classic children's tale does much to rely on the film's virtues (and there are many), but fails to enhance them further with supporting elements. This 1994 version, directed by Caroline Thompson and starring Sean Bean, makes use of atmospheric music and densely framed images, which are made that much better when transferred onto DVD. The choice of either pan-and-scan or widescreen formats keeps a sharp image and encompasses a fantastic palette of colors, which do not bleed. As the main player, Black Beauty dominates many of the scenes, and his dark face contrasts well with his surroundings, the night scenes playing out excellently, with a good balance between shadows and light. The Dolby Digital Sound does well to showcase the horse's Celtic-accented narration (voice of Alan Cumming), with the horse's sounds and remarks clearly audible, if not dominating. The dialogue among the human characters is likewise very clear. What is often off balance is the background music; although never completely overpowering the dialogue and narration, it tends to cut off too abruptly in places where a sudden change for background sounds takes precedent. This package contains the usual language and scene selections and the original theatrical trailer, but does nothing to target its youthful audience or even give older viewers any background information in the form of a featurette or interviews with its creators and stars.

Penelope Spheeris' 1994 feature-length updating of The Little Rascals arrives on DVD with a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1. The closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.0, while Spanish and French soundtracks have been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. Spanish subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include biographies of the cast and crew, and production notes. This is an acceptable by-the-numbers title from Universal.

Jon Avnet's The War is set in the rural south and brimming with lessons on social consciousness, much like his previous effort, Fried Green Tomatoes (1991). During the summer of 1970 in backwoods Mississippi, Stephen Simmons (Kevin Costner) is struggling to be a breadwinner for his family while still suffering post-traumatic stress disorder from his service in the Vietnam War. His wife Lois (Mare Winningham) provides most of the family income. Stephen gets a job in a mine and saves a friend who has been injured, helping him erase his guilt over abandoning another friend during a firefight in Vietnam. Meanwhile, the Simmons children, Stu (Elijah Wood) and Lidia (Lexi Randall) are feuding with an even poorer family of neighbors, the Lipnickis, over access to a tree fort that Stu and Lidia built. Mr. Lipnicki (Raynor Scheine) is drunken and abusive and helps escalate the disagreement into a major battle for the fort.

Good Movie!

This movie featuring Kevin Costner and Elijah Wood is one of those movies that has great emotion and acting. It also opens your eyes to the many struggles of that time and it will teach some lessons. This movie has a couple of tear-jerker scenes. I found it enjoyable and collection-worthy.

Sydney White is a Charming Movie!
on August 10, 2008

Sydney White is a modern-day adaptation of the classic fairy tale Snow White. It's great how the directors came up with modern-day scenarios and devices to mimic the classic. This is a refreshing change from all the remakes and renditions of Cinderella. Great romantic-comedy that is great for teens and family! The Seven Dorks made this movie enjoyable and funny! Great for Amanda Bynes fans!

This release collects 24 episodes of the animated series Garfield and Friends. Created by Jim Davis, the character of Garfield is a lethargic cat who spends his time eating, being annoyed by the dog Odie, and generally being as lazy and manipulative as possible.

A man trying to save his relationship with the woman he loves finds himself sinking into a quicksand of small lies and half-truths in this comedy. Paul (Jason Lee) is a regular guy who is engaged to marry Karen (Selma Blair); while Paul loves Karen, he's more than a bit nervous around her family, even though her father (James Brolin) has already given him a job in the family business. Shortly before the wedding, Paul's friends throw him a bachelor party, complete with a boatload of liquor and a squadron of grass-skirt-clad tiki dancers. Paul strikes up a conversation with one of the dancers, the cheerful if inept Becky (Julia Stiles), and the next morning, he wakes up bleary-eyed with a massive hangover -- and Becky in bed next to him. Paul soon receives a phone call from Karen saying she's stopping by for a visit, and Paul scrambles to get Becky out of his apartment. Paul attempts to explain some incriminating evidence with a few white lies, but a messy situation gets messier when Paul runs into Becky at a pre-wedding family get-together...and discovers she's Karen's cousin. A Guy Thing also features Shawn Hatosy, Lochlyn Munro, and Julie Hagerty.

Music and Lyrics is a must-have movie!
on August 10, 2008
Posted by: LiveLaughLove
This movie is about a has-been 80's pop icon (Hugh Grant) that is faced with the task of writing a song for pop diva "Cora". His mildly-eccentric plant lady (Drew Barrymore) becomes his lyricist and they find themselves falling for each other. Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore are GREAT together as they have genuine chemistry! The songs are beautiful and catchy and you'll find yourself humming or singing the tunes long after you've watched the movie! Fantastic romantic-comedy with emotion and a great soundtrack! I recommend this to everyone!
