Great Sequel

Although i would definitely purchase this movie, it is not the best Harry Potter movie. Actually, its probably the worst. However, it is still an "ok" movie with good Special Features, so I would still buy it.
What's great about it: Special Features
What's not so great: Not the best HP movie

Barry Sonnenfeld's science fiction-comedy Men in Black comes to DVD with a pair of transfers. The widescreen anamorphic transfer preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.85:1 and is preferable in every way to the standard full-frame image. Closed-captioned English soundtracks are rendered in both Dolby Digital 5.1 and Dolby Digital Surround, while a French soundtrack has also been recorded in Dolby Digital Surround. English, French, Spanish, Cantonese, and Mandarin subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include commentary tracks recorded by Sonnenfeld and the actors and filmmakers, a music video from Will Smith, trailers, a preview for Men in Black 2, production notes, and a making-of documentary. This is a superb disc from Columbia TriStar.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off needed a new special edition DVD and it got it with the Bueller...Bueller...Edition, a release that adds plenty of bells and whistles to the much-loved film. While Paramount dropped John Hughes commentary from the 1999 release and has yet to include the film's trailer, enough insight can be gleamed from the making-ofs that it almost makes up for these oversights. On a positive note, the film has been given a stellar presentation for the digital age, with a new anamorphic widescreen picture and 5.1 Dolby Digital sound for best optimum viewing experience. The extras are detailed and feature most of the cast and crew, though interestingly, Hughes is only represented by some vintage 1986 clips, which are actually more in-depth than you'd think. Featuring clips on the casting, the inspiration, the general making-of, and even a special on Ben Stein, the disc goes a long way to cover certainly one of the most popular comedies of its time. Also included is are some tongue-in-cheek segments on-set in which the cast interviews each other, along with a gallery section consisting of the film's costume tests. The Bueller...Bueller...Edition might be awkwardly named, but it delivers the goods in a satisfying way that would make Ferris proud.

Best Will Smith Flick Yet

This has to be, in my opinion, the best Will Smith movie yet. This movie will never get old, and will go down as a classic comedy. It also has some great Special Features, so I would definitely buy this movie.

Director Alex Proyas (Dark City, The Crow) helmed this sci-fi thriller inspired by the stories in Isaac Asimov's nine-story anthology of the same name. In the future presented in the film, humans have become exceedingly dependent on robots in their everyday lives. Robots have become more and more advanced, but each one is preprogrammed to always obey humans and to, under no circumstances, ever harm a human. So, when a scientist turns up dead and a humanoid robot is the main suspect, the world is left to wonder if they are as safe around their electronic servants as previously thought. Will Smith stars as Del Spooner, the robot-hating Chicago cop assigned to the murder investigation. Bridget Moynahan, Bruce Greenwood, James Cromwell, and Chi McBride also star.

A sumptuous picture and thundering sound quality compensate for the complete lack of extras in this DVD edition of Paramount's blockbuster. The picture is a gorgeous 2.35:1 widescreen transfer, although it is not anamorphic. Still, it's hard to complain with such vibrant blues, golds, and reds filling the screen. Sound, too, is excellent. Offered in Dolby Digital 5.1, it's given a workout throughout the entire picture. James Horner's score has never sounded more alive, and the actual sinking is an earth-shattering sonic experience. From the roar of seawater to the splitting of hull plates, every sound is reproduced with startling clarity. The only head-scratcher here is the complete lack of extras. A film of this size, and having this much impact, must have a vault-load of deleted scenes, documentaries, and so on. James Cameron has often re-released his films in extras-laden special editions. Let's hope that one for Titanic waits in the wings. In the meantime, the gorgeous picture and sound will satisfy those who simply must have Titanic on DVD.

This movie is still a great movie, even though there are no Special Features. I would not purchase this movie because, though this is no fault of the movie, it is lacking in many areas. I would purchase the 3-disc version.
What's great about it: The Same Old Movie
What's not so great: No Special Features

Featuring an all-star cast of some of the hottest names of the '80s, Artisan's release of Young Guns offers a solid presentation of the revisionist western in addition to offering a handful of exciting extras. Presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, this release features audio rendered in either closed-captioned English Dolby Digital 5.1 or Stereo with optional Spanish subtitles. For those looking to take a blast into the past, this release also offers commentary by stars Lou Diamond Phillips, Dermot Mulroney, and Casey Siemaszko, a documentary on the real-life Billy the Kid, a trivia track, a theatrical trailer, and a trailer gallery.
