Don't get me wrong from my "what's not so great" comment concerning it's price point... the 1500XD is a solid performer on many levels. The tonal quality fell right into place once the transducer went through a few hours of use. Once dialed into the 'room' and its particular accoustics, it filled its application very well.
I should also state that it is in your best interest to purchase the PBK right up front. It is an invaluable tool in setting this component up properly to the accoustics of your environment. For the price of the PBK #$100# and the cost of the 1500XD itself #$1595 at the time of this writing#... it should be included from Martin Logan up front.
Performance-wise the 1500XD meets the grade... however, in comparison to the SVS SB13-Ultra #the sub of subs currently 06/2014# is where my comment about price point come into play. At roughly $300 less than the 1500XD... the SVS SB13-Ultra's performance rivals all. Considering that my 2 channel mains are around 18 cu/ft each, I dont lack full uncompressed wave length at any low frequency... but at home theater level volumes... the Martin Logan 1500XD is killer addition for the LFE fill.
But... you be the judge. I am no one to say that one is better for an individual over anothers taste in sound quality and environment. Hard to find one in a listening room to tell the difference... but find a Martin Logan full dealer and take a listen. You wont be un-impressed.
My Best Buy number: 2195075948
What's great about it: Tonal Quality, PBK calibration with option sensor, power vs size, useable bandwidth
What's not so great: Price point does not align with product

Actually, I am not going based off of reviews... I have heard several SVS SB13's in action in multiple home theater systems that friends have. The difference to me is that my friends systems lack the main channel fronts of my home theater system. The SVS SB13's works killer for their applications that utilize singular subs and lack the presence of comparable main channels like what I am using.
I chose the ML Dynamo 15 for LFE fill in my home theater system, specifically when used at lower system volume playback for home theater use. I do not have a lack of low frequency reproduction in my system in comparison as my main channel fronts consist of a pair of 15" transducers per channel, within 18+ cu/ft cabinets and a pair of 500Hz, A/L 511B compression horns.
I am impressed with the tonal quality of the ML Dynamo 15 so much that I am adding a second, along with the addition of 4 Electromotion R 8's, a second pair of A/L 511B's (high) and a pair of A/L 811B's (wide) for my Dolby ATMOS 9.2.4 configuration.
