Unsinkable Music
on July 4, 2010

I am not the fan of this movie that can give you chapter and verse; however, the music James Horner composed for the film well captures the atmosphere of the time period and the emotion of the story depicted. The music is sweeping and majestic in those types of scenes and touching and romantic in the love and romance scenes. Of course, all of the instrumental music is overshadowed by Celine Dion's performance of My Heart Will Go On. In many cases this may be the only reason people bought this soundtrack if they didn't download the song somewhere else. I think big fans of the film will find themselves enjoying it again as they listen to this soundtrack / score.
What's great about it: James Horner's music is as always great.
What's not so great: The music will only appeal to fans of the film.

Old Beats New

The chief reason I bought this soundtrack was because of the old songs I like included on it that I did not have. Rosanna by Toto, Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty, Take Me Home Tonight by Eddie Money, Harden My Heart by Quarterflash, Broken Wings by Mr. Mister and Steal Away by Robbie Dupree. While MacGruber's Theme isn't too bad, the MacGruber Suite is just downright annoying. It's another case of trying to be funny by using profanity to dress up lame material.
What's great about it: The old songs that I don't hear as much anymore are great.
What's not so great: The MacGruber Theme is okay, the MacGruber Suite is awful.

Pure Patsy

I am no expert on Patsy Cline and I am not qualified to critique her music. I am familiar with her biggest hits. As far as I can tell, this two-CD set well represents the music of her career. I personally do not know if any obvious omissions occurred in compiling this set. All I know is that Patsy Cline had a beautiful voice with which to sing some unmistakable songs that are now considered iconic. I not only enjoyed the hits on this set but also the other songs she recorded that I did not know. Listening to these selections confirms the tragedy of a life cut short and a lovely, husky, bluesy voice forever silenced.
What's great about it: Good price, good selection, good sound.

Value for the price

I am by no means an expert on Bachman-Turner Overdrive. I am just a casual listener to their music; I know their hits but little more. I am not qualified to analyze this two-CD set as others have done on other websites. Let me just say I got this set for a very good price. All of the hits I can remember from BTO are on here. I am unaware of any omissions that should be included. I cannot judge studio versions versus live versions of certain songs. I enjoyed hearing again BTO's hits and I also enjoyed hearing songs with which I was unfamiliar before receiving this set. I am glad I made this purchase.
What's great about it: Good price, good selection, good sound.

Short But Sweet

I am only a casual fan of Cyndi Lauper so I cannot speak about any missings works from this greatest hits collection. I was surprised to find an "essential" collection that was only one disc; however, as I said I am a casual fan and am no expert to judge if her library could justify two discs anyway. I found the songs on this collection to be for the most part consistent and enjoyable.
