Originally torn between this TV and an LG C7 Oled. Probably went to BB 20 times to look at both side by side (I think the employees were starting to get a little weirded out). LG seemed like the "safe" bet with it's great all around reviews but the 940e had the wow factor I was looking for in my home theater. Was definitely concerned by several negative reviews here on the BB site but finally decided to take the risk. Couldn't be happier. I'll chalk most of the negative reviews up to user error since I haven't experienced any similar issues. Picture is absolutely amazing (especially with 4K but also with plain old HD). My only beef is that the Android TV platform is clunky and hard to customize. Still trying to figure out how to get rid of all the bloatware. But that is a minor issue since I won't be needing it once the Apple TV 4K version is finally released.

Originally had my heart set on floor standing Motion 40s but in the age old battle between man, woman and home theater, opted for something that was a little more ascetically pleasing in the living room. Mike at Magnolia store in SW Vegas sold me on these puppies, demoing the non-XL version against the Motion 40s and it was hard for my non-audiophile ear to tell the difference. Have a decent subwoofer to make up for any loss in low end but overall I think they sound fantastic and look fantastic too. Had the Geeks come and run cables through the wall and they did a great job.

Originally bought an ML Dynamo 500 but it had an irritating issue with audio pops when turning it on and off. Traded it in for the Supercube 2000 and couldn't be happier. Supercube is smaller, cheaper and sounds as good if not better IMO. Getting a ton of strong, clean bass in my 15' x 15' living room. Only issue was that it would go on an "adventure" across my tile floor. Probably moved about 6-8 inches during an average action movie. Solved that problem easily with a $30 Pyle acoustic pad.

Great subwoofer with an irritating flaw

Sound is great for the price. However, when you shut down your system, the sub makes a loud pop anywhere from 5-30 minutes later. A little disconcerting at night when you think someone just thumped your door. Contacted Martin Logan and was told this is normal operation. I could probably have lived with it but it was starting to freak out my wife and 6 year old :/ Ended up exchanging it for a Supercube 2000 which seems to be of comparable sound quality.

Bought this for my 32" Samsung LED flat panel. Looks great in the corner. Wood finish gives it a stylish look. Easy to assemble, very sturdy. I highly recommend it.

Best 75 TV and possibly best tv
Bybw13
I had the 930E and exchanged it for the 940. I only exchanged it because we decided that a 75 would fit in the space after all. I'm glad I did, the 75 is awesome, but also because the 940 looks even better than the 930. In fact, when I looked at it in the store compared to the Z9D, the Z was only barely noticeable in a few HDR highlights. I thought the 940 looked way better than all of the LG Oleds, which just weren't as bright or vibrant and since the 940 is a FALD instead of edge lit the Blacks are still pretty darn good. I know there are complaints about android tv but I think the system is easy to use and fast and responsive. We have Directv 4k service and while there's not much programing, we've seen some pretty awesome 4k nature documentaries. I also picked up the oppo UHD bluray (which is adding dolby vision soon) Star Trek 2009 looks amazing in HDR on the 940. Only thing I'm upset about now is that Game of Thrones isn't in 4k!

Remote

Any chance you're using this with a Harmony remote? I read in another review that there might be issues.

Great Picture,but many issues.
ByDexter
The good: Awesome picture.
The Bad: 1) Super slow operating system. When using apps, if you hit the volume, it takes a while to see the progress bar and your movie will stutter. Mostly on Amazon Prime. 2) This TV won't accept Bluetooth headphones. You have to buy a separate Bluetooth adapter. Seriously, Sony? $6K? Get with the times, man. 3) ARC is a mess. Totally takes over your system and very little options to disable certain ARC features. Impossible to use a Harmony Remote because the Sony ARC confuses it so much. I just completely disabled it. 4) You have to point the remote directly at the TV's sensor or it won't detect it. Others have mentioned this in forums. 5) If you use an optical audio cable, you have to go into the settings every single time you want to use your surround receiver and set it to external audio. My other TV's would always play both receiver and TV speakers together. I would just have to mute the TV. 6) There is literally no full owners manual available. Not in the box nor online. Just a real basic manual that doesn't explain all the settings.
The only reason I haven't returned this TV, is because of the great picture.

Harmony & Arc
July 15, 2017
With respect to your comments about Harmony & ARC, I'm curious to know how it "confused" your set up. Your comments were one of the reasons I was torn about getting the 940e. Finally bit the bullet and went for it and having set up ARC with my Denon x1300w, I don't have any issues with it or my Harmony Elite remote. I'm wondering if your issues are related to power control within ARC. I disabled everything but ARC (two-way HDMI communication) on my receiver so the TV can't turn anything else on/off and so far it's all working great. I let the Harmony switch the Denon to TV Audio when I need audio from TV to go to receiver instead of letting ARC feature control that. Also, I'm having zero issues with Harmony remote aside from that. Controls all TV features without issue or delay.

Sony's Customer Service is Horrible!!
ByjustoletuknowfromRaleigh, NC
I have had 2 XBR75x940D TVs. Both of them have had the same problems. Turning themselves off and blooming issues. Best Buy did an exchange on the first set and Sony has been out to repair the second. I'm still having the same issues. Called Sony on Saturday 7/15/17 and they offered to exchange my TV but told me that department is closed on the weekend and to call back on Monday between 9-6 est. I received an email from Sony at 11:55 am on Sunday 7/16/17 again stating that Sony would exchange my TV and to call back Monday - Friday 9-6 est. I called today, Monday 7/17 and was given the run around. I was transferred between departments 4 times. I have been told that I need to call back when I'm in front of the TV so that they can run diagnostics on my before they can do anything. Why wasn't this done on Saturday when I was talking to that department??? I was told on the phone and via email that they were replacing my TV with a new one. Why am I getting the run around?? I asked the person in the exchange department for a supervisor and was told that supervisors don't accept calls. It has been the worst customer service experience that I have ever been a part of!! Right now I'm stuck with a 75" lemon. This wasn't an inexpensive TV. Sony could have saved the day but instead wanted to lose a customer!
Best Buy has been great! This is no reflection on them at all! I will continue to buy all of my electronics at BB.

Did you buy a 940e?
July 20, 2017
Seems like this comment doesn't belong in the 940e section. Unless I'm reading your comment wrong, you bought a 940D (last year's model). I definitely sympathize with the lousy service you're getting from Sony but your comment isn't helpful to people who are researching an entirely different television.

DO NOT BUY SONY 75X940D
ByDONOTBUYTHISTV
We purchased this TV 13 months ago. TV lost its picture as soon as the manufacturer warranty was reached. SONY customer support was not helpful as they only told me to unplug a TV. The TV is at a premium price point but it works and is supported by the manufacturer as one you get on Black Friday clearance. I would advise looking at other 4G TVs - this one has issues. On a side note, it restarted itself multiples times a week which was very annoying. Stay Away

Wrong TV

This comment section is for 940E not 940D. Also what is a "4G TV"?
