Wow. I've been using Windows OS since I can remember. I never approached Apple products simply because of their flashy, pop-culture appeal. To me, Apple was just a non-essential, overpriced computer. Man, have I been wrong. I just purchased this MacBook Pro 2011, not really knowing what to expect, and I can definitely say I haven't been disappointed yet. Well, here are some of the things that I LOVE about this laptop and some of the few things that I don't.
PROS - Compared to other non-Apple laptops, this machine is built with great quality material. I believe it's aluminum but I may be wrong. In any case, it's amazingly sturdy and looks great! - The display is very beautiful. I love it. - The applications (software) that come preloaded are more fun than useful but sure beats getting a Windows laptop with a bunch of junk, useless commercial software. - Webcam is nice, - The keys are very easy to access and have a high quality feel to them. - The keyboard controls are also very handy and easy to use. - Light and portable; and looks great!
CONS - Although the advertised battery life is 7 hours, I've yet see the battery timer display any time remaining greater than 5 hrs and 30 minutes; consistently, that is. (But hey, 5 hours isn't bad at all.) - The OS is fairly easy to use but being a life-long Windows OS user, it's pretty challenging to get used to at first. I suppose this isn't a CON of the device but rather based on my personal experience. - You guessed it, it's expensive! However, I quickly being convinced that it was a worthy purchase.
In conclusion, although I was apprehensive on making such a dramatic shift from Windows to Mac OS, I'm beginning to like this device. I don't intend on becoming an Apple snob or fanboy because I still believe that Windows is a wonderful (...and more productive) OS than Mac OS. Oh! You can install Windows on this device.
Definitely a good purchase if you can spare 1200-1400 dollars. Even better if you qualify for the Best Buy 18 months interest-free financing deal.
