Picked this up yesterday from BestBuy. Super fast to set up. This is a replacement for my Gateway 7805U which did have a 1920X1200 Screen resolution but the older P8400 Core 2 Duo Processor. The screen res on this is 1600X900 and is bright and clear. Great sound system too. Plays Black Ops too. I'm a gamer so I need something that can keep up with latest games. The aluminum frame makes this machine sturdy and it's a lot lighter than my Gateway. No problems encountered so far. Very happy with the purchase. Bestbuy people were more than helpful. Oh and the fingerprint reader is a nice addition.
Cons:Wish it had the 7200RPM harddrive but I ordered a 750GB 7200RPM replacement. Like everyone else don't like the touchy mousepad. Wish the arrow keys were full size as I use these for gaming. The only other thing I wish it had would be lighted keyboard. All in all this is a great price for what you get. You won't be disappointed.
What's great about it: Screen resolution,Fingerprint Reader,Fast Processor,6GB Ram,Aluminum Frame,Sound System
What's not so great: Mousepad,5400rpm HardDrive,Small Arrow Keys

The Toshiba is a well built laptop (kind of cheap and plastic but feels sturdier than others). There is nothing offensive about this no thrills laptop. Has a nice stylish design and feel. Transferring photos via flash drive was simple and straight forward. CD/DVD drive was a little touchy (hit and miss) but not sure if the CDs/DVDs were damaged.
The most frustrating part of this machine is the Operating System. WIndows 8 seems to be the achilles heal. If this was Windows 7, I would have been jumping up and down with excitement instead I spent hours trying to figure out how to use, get to files and even had to look how to shut down the computer. My computer is updating at home and I hope Microsoft put the START button back if they did this would be a perfect cheap and lovable laptop. In order to find system components, apps like WORDPAD and programs, you will have to remember the name of what you need and type it in the search field. PAINFUL and Waste of Time. Please Microsoft bring back the START BUTTON for Laptops.
The second most frustrating part was figuring out how to uninstall Norton. It took about an hour searching online. If you want Norton, its $155.00 after the first 30 days. Windows 8 has Windows Defenders and Windows Firewall BUT Norton disables it so in order to use Windows Defender as anti-virus, anti-spyware and firewall, you will have to disable it.
Problems, I couldn't load the Facebook App because the laptop didn't meet minimum standards. I downloaded Google Chrome and was able to log on to Facebook from there.
Tiles are interesting for about 10 minutes then boring. I have had the laptop less than one day. I am 43yo and have basic-intermediate computer skills.

Removing Norton

Removal is easy. Go to control panel. Locate and click on Norton.Click uninstall.After that reboot and ur done !

Seriously you bought this computer with viruses ! I don't think so. Get real. New computers don't come with a virus ! You can get them after you log onto the internet without protection. There are also plenty of free internet protectors out there such as Avast,Super-anti Spyware and Malwarebytes. Also windows comes with Defender already installed. This just doesn't add up.

I purchased this laptop a week ago. It was sold as "new in box". I set it up when I got home, very easy setup by the way, and noticed a few things. First, there was already a printer, wireless mouse and Trend security installed in my new computer. I can overlook this although it should have said refurbished on the box.
So far, the computer is okay except the apps on the live tiles don't always open when selected. A restart generally fixes the problem. I love the speed of this machine. Paired with my high speed internet, there is virtually no lag time when going from website to website.
At this point, I am hoping this thing lasts. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Sounds like you didn't get a new one. Prob one that was returned. I would run back to the the store and get another one. If you buy new you should get new. And if it wasn't new you should have gotten a lower price. Just saying....

The laptop is great value, however, if you want to upgrade the hard drive or memories, it would be a nightmare. You had to take out about 10 screws on the bottom then pop the keyboard up, take out 4 more screws, disconnect the keyboard and 2 other connectors. I then had some wiggle room and could then see the HDD but not the RAM. I couldn't figure out what else was holding the laptop together and just gave up and put it back together and returned it.

Ram is easy to install

I have this same lappy and the ram is the easiest to get to. There is a small panel on the bottom that is held in by 2 screws. Once those are loosened you just pop out the panel and the ram is right there. As far as the hard drive goes you are right.It is a nightmare to get to.IDK why they do that ?? Like no one wants to upgrade their HDD....right.

I Love my New Dell Computer. it has every feature I wanted, Intel core I-3 processor which is pretty fast, Touch-screen works great is very responsive and accurate to the touch and also makes the whole new Windows 8 experience a whole lot better which at first I was not a fan but playing with it and watching all the self help videos that come installed on Windows 8 was very easy to learn and now I love it now it is my favorite version of Windows ever. The 4GB Ram was the minimum I wanted and it is just enough to get the job done, The 750GB HDD is plenty of space more than anyone should ever need. I also love the DVD/CD player/burner that it has and was a must have wear as most new computers coming out are lacking having one anymore, Another must have which this computer comes with is all the wireless options along with wireless-N the fastest Wi-Fi connection this dell also comes Bluetooth 4.0 capable which was the one feature this dell computer had that the same comparable HP computer did not have and the HP was $30 more. I also love how this dell has a 720p HD screen which looks very good and the HD webcam with mic works well with it, I also love all the ports the 3 USB 2 2.0 and 1 3.0 super high speed, the SD media card reader and the HDMI which works great runs whatever your doing on your computer to your HD TV in full 1080p. All in all this is a great computer for everyone.

I bought the 4th gen version first and this one came out shortly after so I returned it for the newer version. Here are the differences:
840m vs 940m (getting better performance with 940m)
i5 4200 vs i5 5500 (snappier on i5 5500u)
much better trackpad on newer version (quieter and tighter)
Battery life better on newer version

Overall I am extremely pleased with the thinkpad. The keyboard, screen, and performance are all top notch. The laptop is light and has excellent battery life. The screen quality is amazing, deep colors, contrast, and viewing angles. Be sure to disable adaptive brightness and in the intel graphic properties, disable power management or you will get fluctuating brightness based on screen content. Screen gets really bright.
Get this laptop. its amazing. Playing games at 1080p med settings and high in some cases

Changing Brightness Levels

I hear ya about the annoying change in brightness levels.Got a Dell 13.3 2 in 1 7000 series and had the same problem.Thot it was a defect so I took it into the Geek Squad to look at it.They reset it it to factory specs which helped for a time. I got into the adaptive display settings and disabled it and now it is steady on the brightness level.

At the lowest graphic setting, World of Warcraft is not playable on this laptop, it will lag every couple of minutes for 30 sec to a few minutes. Updated all drivers and bios, still no go.

Have you tried playing in a different resolution. Try the 1920x1080. Playing in 4K takes alot of power.

Good laptop, 4K is stunning and perfect for the price. Performance is not for gaming, but for usual office work and watching movies is fine. Battery life is OK - 4-5 hours when you do not use many resources (remote desktop to connect to an another computer.
Now bad things:
1) Thin aluminum body is not strong enough to hold LCD screen, so closing lid or changing position cause some white back light spots temporarily appear on LCD screen
2) AC adapter issue is killing me. Per forums it happens on many of these Inspiron 7000 4K models. A couple of times per week laptop rejects to charge and I see a message "Unknown" adapter, please connect a standard 65W Dell adapter. Restoring defaults in BIOS, twiking on/off/restarts helps in some time (yesterday I spent 30 min to push laptop to charge)

Unable to recognizing available wifi connections.
I continue to lose Internet connect. At times the computer is inable to recognize available wifi connections that my iPAd, phone and old laptop are able to connect to. I have repeatedly called Dell about this. 1st call they told me it was a Windows 10 issue. Took an hour for them to walk me through reinstalling the driver. Today had a 2nd phone call to Dell tech support. I was told these computers can have a bad network card and it would need to be replaced. Ugh! I am thinking of returning to Best Buy.
