After seeing these guys in concert the day before this album came out, I thought they were still out to blues-rock their way to stardom. If any band could pick up a three stringed broken guitar out of the trash and play awesome blues in front of a crowd of thousands, this was it. After listening to this album, I thought, well, maybe I'll just keep listening to their older stuff. It's a good album, in a poppy kind of way, but it's just not the Black Keys. Danger Mouse has a hip-hop sensibility that shouldn't be downplayed, but as an avid Black Keys fan, the two just didn't mesh well. The second track is the only one where the old school Keys come out, and it's awesome. Overall, I'd stick to their later stuff if you want some good dirty blues rock.
What's great about it: Yes it is the Black Keys
What's not so great: The Black Keys don't play the blues no more
