Great features and easy setup
on June 6, 2019

from BROKEN ARROW
If you've been looking at dash cam options, this should move up to the top of your list. The Owlcam is extremely easy to set up, and comes with all the tools necessary to get it installed quickly. There are several brackets to position the camera as you'd like and the cable is easily hidden without needing to take anything apart. The video quality is very good, and the ability to get notifications for events (like someone bumping your car) is very cool. The Owlcam is powered by your OBD II plug on the bottom of your dash. This plug is typically used to check error codes that your car is having. Which brings me to one thing I wish there was a solution for out of the box. I have a higher-end aftermarket car stereo that reads information about my car (error codes, gauges, tire pressure, etc.). I had to disconnect this to plug in the Owlcam. I'm going to try an OBD II splitter, and see if I can get both working simultaneously. Not a deal-breaker for most, but if you're using one of the car tracking devices to get a discount on your insurance, you may run into a similar issue, as they usually plug into the OBD II port as well. The LTE functionality is a great feature to have as well, and the pricing for the LTE is reasonable, though it is a fully-featured dash cam, even if you opt to not use the LTE. Again, if you're in the market for a dash cam, you should strongly consider this one, as its features are pretty tough to beat.
Pros: excellent video quality, great features (like motion detection), exterior AND interior cameras, well-designed app
Cons: uses your OBD II port, which may take power/functionality away from other aftermarket devices in your car (stereo or insurance tracking device).

PC-Powered VR with the easiest setup
on June 6, 2019
Posted by: dustinw
from BROKEN ARROW
As an owner of the original Rift, I was very anxious to try the Rift S. There are quite a few differences between the Rift and Rift S. Overall, I feel it is an improvement, even though there are some things that need addressed. The halo-style band is quite a bit more comfortable than the previous Rift. If you've used a PlayStation VR, this fits much like it does. You don't need sensors for the headset tracking, as it's done using an inside-out method now (using on-board cameras). Packing up my old Rift sensors put a smile on my face. As much as I liked the original Rift, I'm happy that I no longer need the sensors taking up space, which also makes setup MUCH easier and faster. It also comes with the updated touch controllers (I had to purchase these separately from the original Rift). There's no hardware IPD adjustment like the original Rift, but I didn't find this to be a problem at all. Again, this goes into the fact that this is MUCH easier to set up. Visual quality is VERY MUCH improved over the original Rift. I thought it would be a marginal step forward, but everything is so much crisper now. I know they swapped the OLED panel found in the original Rift with and LCD for the S, but the black levels are not bad at all, and the increased detail is very much worth it. My biggest complaint is the audio quality. While I appreciate the attempt to make the headset more comfortable with the speakers integrated into the band, I really miss the quality of the original Rift's headphones. I've seen some aftermarket clip-on headphones similar to the original Rift that I may give a shot. Overall, if you're looking to upgrade from the original Rift, I say go for it. You'll be surprised at the improved clarity, much improved screen-door-effect and much less noticeable god rays. If you're new to the PC VR market, the Rift S is a great choice. Not only is it much cheaper than the other higher-end VR headsets, you also get the benefit of Oculus' exclusive games.
Pros: excellent screen, easy set up, great tracking for head and controllers, included controllers
Cons: audio quality, I also felt I should mention that I had some trouble during setup. When attempting to complete the set up process in the headset, all I was seeing was a black screen. After trying a few things, the only thing that worked was updating to a beta version of the Oculus software. I imagine this will be ironed out shortly, but I wanted to mention it, in case anyone else came across this issue.

Lightweight and Comfortable
on March 15, 2019
Posted by: dustinw
from BROKEN ARROW
This is the most comfortable smart watch I have tried. It's very lightweight and small. Great for the fitness enthusiast, with tracking for workouts, steps and heart rate. The tracking does a pretty good job overall, though it appeared to lose a few of my steps on occasion throughout the day. Coming from a Galaxy S3 Frontier (that I've been wearing for nearly 2 years), I was very surprised at all the features packed into this watch at it's size and weight. I can't say enough things about how lightweight it is. I almost forget that I'm wearing it.
The biggest complaint I have is the lack of the rotating bezel that is on the other Samsung watches (like my S3 Frontier). It takes some getting used to, but the screen feels really good to swipe through (I'm not sure if it has some special coating, or something but it just feels "good" to swipe through stuff. It also helps that the watch is very fast and responsive. Another sort of nitpick is the actual bezel around the screen. Samsung does a good job sort of hiding the fact that the screen has a bezel, as it almost looks as if it's all screen. But there is a small bezel around the screen that I wish was usable screen space.
Overall, this is an excellent smart watch, and very easy to recommend. I don't think you'll find a more comfortable smart watch than the Galaxy Watch Active at this time.
Pros: Lightweight, Fast, Feels good to use, Good battery life (I'm easily getting 2 days out of it)
Cons: No rotating bezel, wish there was less of a bezel around the screen

Excellent Gaming PC
on November 26, 2018
Posted by: dustinw
from Broken Arrrow, OK
This PC is a nice surprise! It can easily play most modern games at 1080p at high or better quality settings at 60 FPS. I used Gears of War 4's benchmark tool for some testing, and I was getting a rock solid 60 FPS at ultra settings, at 1080p. While Gears of War 4 isn't the newest game, it still is a visually impressive game. I was able to run it at 4k with around 30 FPS at ultra settings as well. With some tweaking, could probably get it to 60 FPS if you didn't mind turning down some visual features. The processor performed very well in every test I tried. The GPU may not be the greatest available, but it also performs very well. If you're not aiming for 4k gaming, this machine should be great. The price makes it very appealing as well.
Pros: great price per performance, nice looking and not overly large tower, excellent processor, good graphics card
Cons: not quite able to do 4k, but at this tier, this is an excellent machine

Great mic for any setup
on November 23, 2018
Posted by: dustinw
from Broken Arrrow, OK
This lav mic set is ready for almost any setup: camera mount, shoe mount or clamp on a smartphone. I used it with my Android phone and recorded audio while using my dslr to shoot. The audio was good and I was able to get ranges from 40+ feet away with line of sight. The quality of the audio was good too. Though, with this setup, you could use a different mic as well. The mic itself came with a windscreen, which may not sound like much, but are so helpful in the outdoors. The quality of the audio may not be the absolute best, but it's still good, and you could always upgrade the mic if you wanted to. The transmitter and receiver are well made and easy to use. And it comes with the necessary cables to connect to aost any device. It also comes with a nice case to house all the pieces.
Pros: loads of connection options, easy to use, good recording quality, good range
Cons: mic could be better, but is uogradable

Good robot with nice features
on November 20, 2018
Posted by: dustinw
from Broken Arrrow, OK
The Ion does a good job of cleaning and is very nimble. I think it cleans a fair amount faster than other robot vacuums as well. The added benefit of the additional vacuum is very helpful. Both seem pretty powerful. The Ion is able to transition between our hard wood floors and carpet without issue. It has had no problem finding the charger. The app for the Ion works well too, and connected without issue. One thing that other robot vacuums have, that I wish the Ion had, was the ability to resume cleaning. If the Ion doesn't quite clean all the floors, it could pick up where it left off. I also wouldn't mind the option to clean more than once a day if necessary. Though, not that big of a deal.
Pros: easy to use, added handheld is useful, nimble, good cleaning
Cons: doesn't have the ability to pick up where it left off

Very nice and elegant looking toothbrush
on November 17, 2018
Posted by: dustinw
from Broken Arrrow, OK
The features of this brush are very good, and well-thoughtout. Its ability to guide you through brushing each section of your mouth with the subtle beeps is very helpful. It does a great job of cleaning without shaking your whole head, and is very comfortable to use. The charging of the brush is also unique. It charges wirelessly, and can be charged by setting it inside the rinsing glass (that rests on the charging pad). This not only looks nice, but is very convenient. The brush itself is visually appealing with its soft black finish and hidden light-up mode selection that is only seen when in use. It also will let you know when you need to change the brush head. If you're in the market for a new brush, this one is a great choice.
Pros: looks great, works great, wireless charging
Cons: not much really!

Highly-Customizable Ergonomic Mouse
on October 19, 2018
Posted by: dustinw
from Broken Arrrow, OK
This takes some getting used to, but it does feel better throughout the day, especially if you're working at an office job. Using the Logitech Options software, you can customize virtually any aspect of the mouse. It feels good to move during the day, but it is somewhat of a different feel than a typical mouse. Mostly due to keeping your hand at a different angle than you're typically used to. My only real complaint is that the wheel scroll doesn't quite work like other Logitech Mice (like the MX Master 2S). With the MX Master 2S, you could flick the wheel and it would scroll the page as far as the wheel rolled, then automatically snap back to a more precise scrolling once the momentum of the wheel slowed down. I really wish this mouse had that as well. Other than than, the precision and ergonomics of this mouse make it very much worthwhile. It's also a nice-looking piece of tech, that doesn't look or feel cheap in any way. The top button that allows the quick changing of speeds (which can be customized as well) is very useful too.
Pros: Highly customizable, nice feeling, great ergonomics
Cons: Takes getting used to, no auto scroll wheel switching

The Best Suite of Office Apps, Always Up to Date
on October 19, 2018
Posted by: dustinw
from Broken Arrrow, OK
If you do any office work, you're likely familiar with Microsoft Office. The Office 365 Home bundle includes all the apps you need (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint, etc.). Plus, they're always up-to-date with the latest releases. The package is pretty handy, since it allows you to have up to 6 people using the software at the same time. My wife and I are able to keep an Excel file for our budgeting needs, and we can modify these files online as well. We can also collaborate on the same document at the same time, which is very useful. With this subscription, you also get a terabyte of OneDrive storage, which is great for backing things up (we use this to back up our personal computers and photos from our phones). If you're looking for a great deal on Microsoft Office, this is easy to recommend.

Listen to your playlist in peace with these Sony headphones. They have a 40mm dome driver to deliver the full depth of audio, and the noise cancelling feature minimizes outside disturbances for a better listening experience. These Sony headphones have a battery life of up to 30 hours for extended jam sessions.

Do these headphones have the same cracking problem that the last version had! I am planning to buy them soon and I want them to last for the price. Thank you.

I have yet to have any cracking problems with these. But, I have the previous model as well (the original 1000x) and haven't had any problems with them either. I use them daily and travel with them as well. I do keep them in the case when I'm not using them, could something have possibly happened to yours to cause them to crack? If you haven't already, it may be worth contacting Sony. These are a premium set of headphones, and they have lived up to that with me.

Bring the power of Google directly to your fingertips with the Google Pixel. A large 32GB of storage keep data secure, while unlimited cloud storage transfers data as needed, and it's completely automatic. The large 5-inch screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4 to ensure the Google Pixel remains scratch-free.

How does the Pixel show email and txt notifications? I have a Moto X and it allows me to read the first few lines without waking the phone. Does this have something similar?

It does show previews on the lock screen and in the notifications at the top of the screen when it's unlocked. You can also reply from messages from that pull-down when it's unlocked. Hopefully that helps!

this laptop does not have many reviews, why? and would you recommend this product if I like Netflix, traveling and take notes at school and some light gaming

This would be an excellent laptop for traveling with it's light weight and thin profile. It would easily handle Netflix and other office-like activities, including Photoshop and mid-level video editing. As far as the gaming goes, it depends on which games you intend to play. It probably will be hit and miss with newer titles, but less-demanding games should work. As an example: I was able to get Killer Instinct to run with playable performance. To do so, I had to drop the resolution and other effects to their minimum. Not bad at all. As a tip, if you do get this laptop and are pushing it's limits for gaming, you may want to make sure and set it's power options to "Maximum Performance". That way it won't throttle it's performance to extend battery life, and instead let it perform at it's maximum. :)

Can programs such as Netflix be used on this TV? Also does the TV convert 2D to 3D?

This TV does support smart apps (like Netflix).

Samsung does list the 2D to 3D feature, though I must admit, I haven't used it yet. Here's a quote from their features:

"Samsung's built-in 3D processor is so powerful it can convert 2D (normal) movies and photos to 3D in real-time with the push of a button."

Hope that helps!

Can you right click?

I use web based software for my HVAC controls and need a simple way to right click. I would prefer to not connect an external mouse. does the surface work this way?
The included stylus with the Surface Pro does allow for a right-click. You can either use the button on the pen, or do a long-press with the pen tip. I believe this will also work with your finger, but if you're using a desktop application, you may need the precision of the stylus.
