1987's science fiction/romance/comedy/action Innerspace comes to DVD, with some decent results that will surely please fans. Though the image does occasionally show some grain and signs of wear, those deficiencies are kept in check and the transfer does look surprisingly sharp. The anamorphic 1.85:1 picture displays nice color and generally good detail. Though far from outstanding, there really isn't much to criticize. The sound, on the other hand, isn't very impressive. Remastering a new 5.1 Dolby Digital track was hardly worth the effort. All sound is from the main, front speaker with little use of the sides and virtually no utilization of the surrounds. While dialogue and effects are clear, this type of film could have taken advantage of a far wider sound field, but that simply isn't the case here. In addition to English, there are tracks in French, and strangely enough, Japanese. As for extra material, there is the usual trailer, but more importantly, a wonderfully enthusiastic commentary from director Joe Dante, producer Michael Finnell, costars Kevin McCarthy and Robert Picardo and Visual Effects Supervisor Dennis Murren. They are a lively group, with jokes and interesting facts about the making of the film. Warner can be commended for giving this lesser known film a new life with this nice disc.

Often overlooked, but fantastic

Innerspace was not a hit movie when it was released, perhaps because it was such a unique plot. Briefly, pilot Tuck Pendleton (Dennis Quaid ) is miniaturized as past of an experiment. After he is miniaturized but before he can be injected into a rabbit where he is to carry out his experiments, people break into the lab and try to steal the miniaturization technology. The head of the lab escapes with Tuck in a syringe and in order to save Tuck, he injects him into the butt of Jack Putter (Martin Short) and from there, hilarity ensues. The movie is awesome, the only down point, the romantic sub-plot was not necessary. However, Kevin McCarthy and Fiona Lewis are fantastic as the villains and the movie definitely set itself up for a sequel which sadly was never made. The movie even manages to give hope to downtrodden milquetoasts everywhere, that one day you too could be the action hero you always imagined yourself to be.
What's great about it: funny, totally original plot, martin short at his zany best
What's not so great: special effects not the greatest but for 1987, they were very good

Classic Disney animation meets contemporary urban chaos when a frightened princess is banished from her magical animated homeland to modern-day New York City in a romantic comedy penned by Bill Kelly (Blast from the Past), directed by Kevin Lima (Tarzan), and featuring music by composer Alan Menken and lyricist Stephen Schwartz. Princess Giselle (Amy Adams) lives in the blissful cartoon world of Andalasia, where magical beings frolic freely and musical interludes punctuate every interaction. Though Princess Giselle is currently engaged to be married to the handsome Prince Edward (James Marsden), her fate takes a turn for the worse when the villainous Queen Narissa (Susan Sarandon) banishes her to the unforgiving metropolis of New York City. As the cruelty of the big city soon begins to wear down the fairy-tale exterior of the once-carefree princess, the frightened Giselle soon finds herself falling for a friendly but flawed divorce lawyer (Patrick Dempsey) whose kind compassion helps her to survive in this strange and dangerous new world.

not just for kids

This is not just a film for kids. Despite the fact that is Disney movie and does start as a cartoon, you can enjoy this movie even if you are not an 8 year old girl. However knowledge of fairly tales does lead to a greater appreciation of the film’s more comical moments. Amy Adams, James Marsden, and Timothy Spall are excellent in their roles. The key for me when I think about buying a movie is would I watch this more than once, otherwise there is no point in buying the movie. This movie is definitely worth multiple viewings.
What's great about it: A thoroughly enjoyable film
What's not so great: it is a bit of a chick flick

This is one of the sweetest most wonderful movies ever. It is one of the rare film were the casting director really got it right. I mean who would have ever guessed that Andre the Giant could act. Most importantly I want to stress that this is not just a film for kids. And once you see it, you will be quoting this movie for the rest of your life. This is one of movie you can watch again and again and never get bored.
What's great about it: One of the greatest movies of all time
What's not so great: none, the worst thing one can say is that the R.O.U.S.’s were a little silly looking
