Kevin Smith's directorial debut, Clerks, brought a new energy to low-budget comedies. The DVD release, which is simply a reissue of the comprehensive laserdisc, offers a fine version of the film along with a bevy of goodies. The image is a widescreen 1.85:1 transfer that charmingly reveals the film's low-budget roots. The Dolby Digital Surround mix is quite fine. The highlight of the supplemental material is a chaotic, rambling commentary track featuring Smith, his cinematographer, and a handful of cast members and journalists. They share numerous funny stories about the making of the film. Jason Mewes' snoring can be heard at one point. It is one of the funniest commentaries ever recorded. A batch of deleted scenes that are introduced by Smith are interesting, none more so than the original ending of the film. A video by Soul Asylum, directed by Smith, gives the viewer the chance to see the Quick-stop in color. This entertaining movie has been given an entertaining DVD release.

Kevin Smith is a Genius!

I watched Clerks years ago after hearing a hundred times over how funny it was. Well, it didn't disappoint and I have grown to be a die-hard fan of Kevin Smith. He wrote this thing, directed it and even stars as Silent Bob. His stuff is so funny, I can watch it 50 times over and still laugh at the same lines. Get it, watch it, love it, you won't regret it.
What's great about it: Cost Kevin very little to make, hilarious, Jay & Bob
What's not so great: NONE

Hollywood's Vista Series DVD of Tombstone is a double-disc set packed with special features for fans of this story about Wyatt Earp and his time in the Arizona mining town, including the legendary gunfight at the O.K. Corral. The film stars Kurt Russell as Earp and Val Kilmer as the tubercular Doc Holliday. The DVDs come packaged in an attractive box that resembles an aged piece of parchment. The first disc contains a 2.35:1 widescreen version of the film enhanced for 16 x 9 televisions with a booming DTS 5.1, Dolby Digital Surround, THX certified soundtrack. It also contains an audio commentary by director George P. Cosmatos. Special features on disc two include a making-of documentary; a "Tombstone Timeline" that places events in chronological perspective; a storyboard sequence; a copy of the original front page of the town newspaper, the Tombstone Epitaph, on the day after the gunfight; several DVD-ROM features; theatrical trailers; TV commercials; and a booklet. There's even a collectible paper map of the gunfight as illustrated in Earp's own hand. Hollywood has hit a bullseye with this DVD set.

Val Kilmer does an exceptional acting job in this move as Doc Holiday. His performance alone would be enough of a reason to see this movie. But, they do a really great job with this classic western story and it's one of my favorites. See it!
What's great about it: Val Kilmer's Performance, very entertaining

Definitely different, this is still one of my all time favorites. I believe River is a phenominal actor and Keanu does well too. There is also a small part by Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers. You like weird and off the wall? Then this is for you, and Hans is the best.
What's great about it: Different, River Phoenix
What's not so great: None

Directed by Nick Cassavetes, this adaptation of author Nicholas Sparks' bestselling novel revolves around Noah Calhoun's (James Garner) regular visits to a female patron (Gena Rowlands) of an area nursing home. Rather than bore her with the inanities of everyday life, Calhoun reads from an old, faded notebook containing the sweeping account of a young couple (Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams) whose love affair was tragically put to a halt after their separation in the midst of World War II. Seven years later, the couple was reunited, and, despite having taken radically different paths, they found themselves unable to resist the call of a second chance. The Notebook also features Joan Allen, Sam Shepard, and Kevin Connolly.

This is an amzing love story. I'll admit, it did start out a little slow for me, but I adore this movie! The performances by Rachael McAdams and Ryan Gosling are stellar. Don't wanna give it away but, if you enjoy romance, this movie is a must see!
What's great about it: A love story all the way through, youth to old age
What's not so great: I've never cried so much at a movie
