Quick and close shaves. Basic, but does the job.
on April 9, 2024
Posted by: skylog
This is a good shaver. It’s well-built and works well. While it doesn’t come with any bells and whistles, it gets the job done.
I can only speak to my experience, but shaves have been quick, close, and comfortable. My facial hair comes in fairly thick, and I have a rather sensitive face, but I haven’t experienced any burn or other issues. The shaver more or less does just seem to glide over my face, and while there has been the rare occasional tug, they have been so few and far between I don’t consider it an issue. Just something to note. I have come to appreciate the wet/dry capabilities. It’s just nice to have the option. All in all, my shaves have been quick, close, and probably most importantly, comfortable. Quite honestly, that is all I really was looking for.
As for the razer itself, as I mentioned earlier, it is well-built. It feels good in the hand, and, well, fits very well in my hand. It is light, but a good weight, and runs surprisingly quietly. The LED indicators effectively show the charge level. Other than how it shaves, the battery is perhaps the second most important thing I was looking for, and so far, it seems solid. Charges are quick, last quite a few shaves, and have not been an issue. I do wish they included a power brick for the cable, but I get it. A minor nitpick for me, and again, something to note. Lastly, cleanup is pretty simple and about what you would expect in this class.
Ultimately, I like this shaver. It does all that I need, and it does it well. Other than a rare tug, or having to occasionally hit a spot twice (both of which I think it more a product of my facial hair than anything), I have no complaints. I think this is a great value, full stop. That said, it is a somewhat basic model, with no frills included. That works for me, but depending on your needs and wants, you may want to explore their models up the chain.

Versatile. Convenient. Quality. Looks Good.
on March 28, 2024
Posted by: skylog
As someone who has used quite a few Logitech products over the years, I am not surprised by this keyboard. I’ll go into some detail below, but to keep it short, I really like this board.
It is thin, light (but still a good weight), and even compact for a full-size board. I like the design. Plain. Simple. Clean. Nice contrast between the board and the keys. I also like the minimal and plain font for the keys. Yes, I am boring. My only slight negative here is the shiny white “bar” on the top. I am not really sure why made that choice, and I think it just would have looked better without it. I will also add that while I really like what they did with the white, I prefer the black/charcoal model. Just a matter of personal taste.
Setup was very easy, and to this point I have had no issues with connectivity. Having the ability to use cross device is really convenient. Further, not only cross device, but also cross platform is really something I have come to appreciate. It’s a small thing, but having both Windows and Mac labeled keys is a very nice add.
The keyboard itself is great to type on and use. I like the feel, the keys have the right amount of give, and the spacing is good. I think it is what most people would be used to and more or less has a laptop feel. It is also very quiet. Beyond that though, I think where it really shines is in the added functionality it offers. There are many default function keys for many of the things that you use the most, and if you dig in and use the Logitech software, you really can set things up to both make your life easier as well as save some time. You can make shortcuts and customize buttons and keys. It really is worth the time.
Battery life has been, well, as good as I could hope for so far. It is rated for 36 months, which, honestly, doesn’t seem real. I am sure that is use dependent, but if it gets to anywhere near that, I will be quite happy. I don’t think this should be a concern at all.
Ultimately, I like this board. It does everything I want and need it to, and really, it is just a solid keyboard that I like using. It comes from a reputable name in the space, (I think) is fairly priced, and is a very good value.

Performance. Good Looks. Just a Great Machine.
on March 15, 2024
Posted by: skylog
This is a great laptop. Easily the most powerful I have ever used. There might be a small thing or two I would change, but overall, it is just a wonderful machine.
Design-wise, I think most will be pleased. Simple, clean, with just the right amount of RGB and other touches. It is a gaming laptop, and maybe some would want some more of that, but, personally, I would prefer just all-blacked out. Obviously, this is a personal thing, but generally, it looks “good.” As for build? I am very impressed. It is a bit of a beast, but frankly, it is lighter than I expected, and even thinner. All in all, a good weight, while still feeling well-built, and balanced.
The screen, for my money one of the reasons to buy this, is beautiful. OLED, big, small bezels, and it just looks fantastic. Fast refresh, everything runs smoothly, bright colors, vivid, seemingly quite accurate, and the blacks. Those blacks are inky. You spend all of your time looking at it, it should be good. No worries here.
Performance-wise, I don’t think I could “really” be happier. It largely comes with top tier hardware, and it all does well. Clearly, some of this will be game and settings dependent, but running near or at maxed out (more on that later) levels, my FPS numbers were (coming from someone on an “aged” desktop) somewhat crazy (in the good way) to me. No stuttering, tearing, anything really, and everything has been very, very smooth. Beyond that, video and picture work, which I do a fair amount of, has also been a good experience. Lastly, as you might expect, normal “life things,” like e-mail, browsing, and office work has been perfect. As a whole, I am very happy here, however, given everything, I am just not sure I understand the decision to go with 16GB of RAM. I get it is standard, sort of, which I suppose I could overlook, but you can’t upgrade it down the road, which makes the 16GB decision that much worse. Give 32GB or give the option to upgrade. I think they missed here.
Across the board, though, they did most things right. Connectivity, while mostly standard, does come with a nice selection that is easy to access and thought out. The sound/speakers are quite good. Really. I was a little surprised. The SSD is quick, which is welcome, and although it is the (sadly) standard 1TB that is the thing today, you can at least add more here. So, credit them for that choice. The keyboard is mostly good. I like the spacing, it is solid with no real flex, and has a nice feel. I don’t love the font, but that is a me thing, and my love of plain takes a hit here. RGB, not really my thing, but they give you some control (although not as much as some may want, no individual keys), and if I am being honest, it does look pretty nice. The trackpad is massive, which I absolutely love, and it does “well.” Not Apple good, but I don’t think anyone will really have any complaints.
Beyond all of that, they seemed to hit the mark on battery-life. At or slightly better than rated so far, but life is very dependent on what you are doing. As expected. I also appreciate that the charging brick is a reasonable size. The webcam is about what you would expect, although definitely an improvement over previous models. Not cinema quality, but it will work. The fans? Well they work. They are always kind of there, but you don’t really notice them. Of course, when you are pushing the machine they do ramp up quite a bit, but they are still fairly quiet.
Ultimately, I like this laptop, and I think it is fairly easy to recommend to those looking in this class. It is spec’d well, works well, and looks good. There are few areas that could be improved, but they don’t really hold it back, and it’s still a great machine and I think most would be pleased.

Great All-Around Buds. Good Value.
on January 30, 2024
Posted by: skylog
As a regular Android user, it seems there are just limitless options when it comes to earbuds. JLab has always been a solid choice, but with this “higher-end” option I really think they nailed it. They sound good, are feature-rich, have a nice app, have solid battery life, and perhaps most importantly, fit me very well. I pretty much like everything.
They are well-built. Solid. Not too heavy. A nice weight. I like the build. They come with 6 sets of tips, 3 sizes in each Silicone as well as Cloud Foam. Most should find a fit that works for them. Clearly, fit is going to be a personal thing, and be different for each person. For me, when it comes buds, this is just about the most important thing. If they aren’t comfortable, I won’t wear them. If I won’t wear them, then what is the point? Further, without a proper fit, the sound will suffer. Again, what is the point? Luckily, in my case, they fit me very well. Further, they are comfortable. For me. As for the design/style? I can’t say that I “love” it, but it is “ok.” I would have preferred more black, more plain, but that is just my style. Boring, I know. I suspect most would like it.
Pairing was quick and easy. Google Fast Pair. Thank you. I really have not had any true connectivity issues to this point. I messed with the multipoint stuff, and it mostly has been nice. Perhaps a quirk here and there, but, generally, everything has been rock-solid otherwise. The addition of a USB-C dongle is just a great, great add. Options and versatility are always welcome. I would love to see more brands include this. The App is quick to pick up, intuitive, and gives you a fair amount to play with as well as control. I really think it is worth the time to play with the EQ settings so you can dial the sound in to how you like it. It really makes a difference. Here you also control the noise cancellation modes, which I found all worked very well. I was pretty impressed with the ANC, which isn’t always the case.
As for sound. They sound quite good. It would be hard for me to truly say audiophile level, but absolutely good, comparable with many in this section of the market, and I think most would be pleased. Lows, Mids, Highs, and Vocals are good across the board. Most genres I listened to sound “mostly” good as is, but as I suggested above, take the time to go in and play with the EQ and sound settings. It is worth the time. I just think they did a good job here, in both construction as well as on the tech side by supporting hi-res codecs and using Bluetooth LE. All in all, I like the sound.
Battery life for me has been great. I would say as rated, perhaps a bit better. JLab hit all the key points here. USB-C, quick charge, long life, and a case that provides lots of backups (rated for 3 extra charges). As for cases, well, they can be a personal thing. You are either going to like it or not. Here, again, I do not really love the look (see above). That said, it just works. It’s a good shape and size and is pocketable. The metal construction is welcome, and I love the internal magnets that take and hold the buds in place.
Ultimately, as I said at the start, these are a really nice set of buds and I like them. They fit me well, are well-built, have great battery life, and sound quite good. There are some nice adds here and there, and I think taken as a whole they are a good value. I think the design/styling is the only thing that I really don’t “like,” but honestly, they are nice enough and that is just a matter of personal taste anyway.

Fast. Easy. Nice Capacity. Quality Brand.
on January 16, 2024
Posted by: skylog
My title more or less says it all. This is a very good well-rounded choice if you are looking to give your PS5 a little capacity/life.
As for the design, well, it looks pretty nice. Sleek. Clean. Simple. Not that you will see it. I am sure the heatsink helps with heat, probably helping performance-wise, but, honestly, I wasn’t having issues that I knew of, and just wanted this for more storage.
Installation is pretty simple. Not much more than opening up the system, inserting the drive, and securing it. It should not be an issue for anyone, even for users who are technically limited. Beyond that, once installed, formatting the drive, and getting ready for use is just a button click away.
Performance-wise, from what I could gather, the speeds are good, and I did not see any difference between this and the default console drive; however, at least with the PS5 (more on that later), it seems I was not hitting the rated speed of the drive. I think this has to do with the PS5 and not the drive, but honestly, I am not sure. Regardless, this is more just something to note than a complaint, as I am not seeing any real-world differences, but it would be nice to get everything out of the drive that I could.
As I mentioned earlier, I was mostly just looking for more storage capacity, and, well, it has taken care of that. It is nice to have some room to play with.
Ultimately, I like this drive. It gave me the space I was looking for, with good speeds, and from a quality brand. You could probably find a cheaper drive, but I like knowing I’ve got some quality chips and a nice warranty just in case. Further, while I am currently using this in my PS5, I like knowing I could toss it in my computer if a need came up. I am also fairly confident I would hit those rated speeds if I did. All in all, for all that you get, I think this is a good value.

Great Performance and Overall Package. Real Value.
on January 10, 2024
Posted by: skylog
I like this monitor for quite a few reasons. To keep it short, it’s built well, looks good, has some nice connectivity, and performs very well.
The build is solid, about what you would expect from Dell. Overall quality. You get a fair amount of freedom with adjustments, with height, pivot, swivel, and tilt. There is a pretty nice selection of ports, with HDMI, 2 Display Port, and 2 USB 5Gbps (USB 3.2 Gen 1) ports. I think just about everyone will be covered. As for the design/styling, it is pretty basic. Muted, plain, black, simple. Honestly, all of that is kind of perfect for me. Some may want more of a gaming aesthetic, which I get, but I think I can say it simply looks “good” as is.
When it comes to the display itself, it’s fantastic. Colors are full, accurate, and detailed. As a whole the picture quality is great. Vivid, great contrast and brightness, with some nice blacks. Sure, it is not 4K, but it looks great with the resolution it has. Performance-wise, it really shines. With the very high refresh rate and very fast response times, it does very well with games generally, but even with fast moving games. I really didn’t see any tearing or flicker, and if there was lag I didn’t really see it. Everything was just smooth. Of course, some of this is system dependent, but it just ran well for me. There are also quite a few gaming specific tools and ad-ons that I found to be mostly helpful and or fun. Dark Stabilizer, Console Mode, Frame Rate Counter, Timer, Night Vision, Clear Vision, Chroma Vision, and “Always Visible” Crosshair. I would say be sure to take a look and see if you like them. I think quite a few are nice adds.
Beyond all of the gaming, simple video also looks good, and it does great in day-to-day usage. So, you shouldn’t have any reservations about this as a solid everyday monitor.
If I have one dig with this monitor, it is that there are no speakers. Yes, most monitor speakers are not very good, and for most gaming you are going to want a headset, but, even at this price point, I just really wish there were some speakers. The display is great, I would just like to be able to watch some YouTube without a headset or without having to grab some external speakers. Maybe this is a personal thing, but just something to note.
Ultimately, though, I really do like this monitor. I like the looks, it comes spec’d well, and it does everything I want/need it to do (just give me some speakers), and it does it all very well. I am pretty impressed. I think for where this monitor sits in the market, and for what it delivers, the value is absolutely there.

Simple. Secure. Nice Mix of Safety and Convenience
on January 4, 2024
Posted by: skylog
As someone with moderate experience with the crypto world, I really like what this wallet offers. You get a fairly simple solution to possible market/exchange vulnerabilities, another layer of security, and the peace of mind that comes along with those things. Further, it all comes in a nice little piece of hardware that was clearly designed for both security and convenience.
I assume if you are looking at this wallet, you know the “whys” for cold storage, so I won’t get into those things, but rather just talk a little about this device and what it brings to the table.
It comes with the wallet itself, a USB-C (to A) cable, a little magnetic dock, 2 recovery seed cards, 3 stickers, and a start-up guide. More or less everything you need to get up and running. I like the dock, as I think it can be useful for storing the wallet (in or out of people’s eyes), as well as the cable as it is a fairly nice length. I would have preferred a C to C cable, but it makes sense why they took this route. The wallet is fairly “small,” but I think a good size for what it is. It has a nice design, black, simple, clean. The LCD screen, while also small, is color, clear, and easy to both read and use. Definitely an improvement over wallets without a display. As for build, it is well-built, solid, and “feels good in the hand.” Time will tell, I have to imagine it will hold up over time. All in all, I like the hardware.
Set-up was a simple process for me. Zero issues. Well, mostly. While I love that they took the extra step to clearly show the device was factory fresh, the security sticker they placed over the USB port didn’t really cleanly come off. Took a little iso to get it clean. Again, a minor inconvenience, but the extra show of security was a nice touch. Beyond that though, the actual setup was simple, and I think will be for most. More or less follow some step-by-step instructions and keep going. Once up and running, I think the software is clear, concise, and intuitive. I think most will have no issue, no matter their level of experience.
As for security, I think Trezor has done a fantastic job here. Between firmware, updates, open source, pins, backups, recovery phrases, TOR options, privacy, and how everything is implemented, you can be confident that you are covered. Which, really, is what you are looking for when looking for something like this.
That said, I think my only concerns with this wallet are the possible limitations for very experienced users who may be looking for a “one stop” solution for all of their crypto assets. While the wallet itself supports quite a nice range of networks and coins, the software suite does not. Third party support is there, so it can be done, and you are mostly covered, but it is more to do. Just keep that in mind when looking into your network and token needs. That ALSO said, I do think many people will be more than fine with their use case, but just something to note.
In the end, I do really like this wallet and I think it will serve just about anyone very well. It offers top-of-the-line security, reliability, convenience, and ease of use, all in a nicely designed piece of hardware. As always, check your use case, but for what you are getting, I think the value is there.

Works Well. Looks Good. Easy to Use. Value?
on December 15, 2023
Posted by: skylog
To be clear, I probably have a little caffeine problem, and very much enjoy coffee as well as tea. That said, I think this tumbler is excellent, does what it promises and does it well.
I love the design. Simple. Clean. Plain. Matte black (mostly). This is more or less perfect for me. I like the look. I do really wish the lids were not glossy, but I understand why they are. A little nitpick, but just something to note. Beyond that, everything is built well. The tumbler feels solid and uses good materials (stainless steel…etc). The built-in LED used for status works well and is customizable. Honestly, however, I think its placement, while making sense, holds it back a little as it is not the easiest to see. The lids (one with a spillproof sliding lid, one with a handle) secure perfectly, do not leak, and are dishwasher safe (the tumbler is hand wash only). The charger is rather compact, has plain styling, and has a good build. It should never be an issue.
In use, I am happy with “nearly” everything Ember has done here. It’s a pretty simple concept, and they nail it. In short, when it comes to keeping your drink at a constant temperature, it just works. Pretty much full stop. It just makes my whole experience better. My main two concerns are that is seems to lose initial temperature a little quicker than other tumblers I have used and that when drinking tea (which is normally a little hotter for me) that heat transfers to the outside surface making it a little warm to the touch. As for my first concern, I guess it is nothing more than another nitpick, as the tumbler does a great job of keeping my drink at a temperature I actually want to drink it at. As for the second, that is somewhat of a personal thing, and it may not apply to you, again, just something to note. Taken as a whole, it works, and I like it.
The app, while not “really necessary,” is simple, intuitive, and useful. Drinks will default to 135°F, but can be set anywhere between 120°F and 145°F within the app. I really think it is worth it to play with it to dial in your preferences. Why not find out what you really like? You can also change the LED color here. Lastly, you can also see your charge status and set yourself up to get notifications when your desired temperature is reached as well as when it is time to charge your tumbler.
As for battery and charging, I think it is good. I think a lot of this will depend on your use case and what you are looking for. On a single charge, it lasts roughly three hours. For me, this is not an issue, and I “think” should not be for many others, but again, check your use case. If? you are using this at home, you can easily just place it on the charger and never have to worry.
Ultimately, I really like this tumbler. It does what it promises to do, and it does it well. It has a good build, looks great, and is simple to use. It is, however, somewhat of a luxury product. For someone who will use it daily, or often, and is looking for consistency and convenience, I think the value is there. It is for me.

Great Output. Compact. Easy. Complete Package.
on November 28, 2023
Posted by: skylog
I really love photography (and video), and am always looking for different, “better,” or more interesting content. This camera absolutely has helped me do that.
For starters, DJI really sets you up with everything you need. Included in this set:
- The Osmo Pocket 3 camera itself
- A hardshell case for the camera
- A carrying bag for the remaining components:
- DJI Mic 2 Microphone (wireless)
- DJI Mic 2 Windscreen
- DJI Mic 2 Clip Magnet (for attaching wireless mic to clothing)
- Osmo Pocket 3 Short Threaded USB-C Handle
- Osmo Pocket 3 Battery Handle
- Osmo Pocket 3 Wide-Angle Lens
- DJI Wrist Strap Lanyard
- Osmo Mini Tripod
- USB-C to USB-C cable
Everything is solidly and well-built, and “feels good in the hand.” From the camera itself to all the accessories. It is quite compact, even in its largest form, and while it has a nice weight, it is by no means heavy. The display is a nice size, and its ability to rotate easily and smoothly makes switching from horizontal to vertical modes a breeze. The UI is smart, clear, and intuitive. You can easily see all of the relevant information as well as make changes as needed. The are nearly endless customizations available. The corresponding app (DJI Mimo), while perhaps not the best app out there, does work well. I did find some of my transfers were a little slow, but that could be many things, as well as some large file sizes. I can’t say it was any fault of the device, just something to note.
While everything I said so far is great, if the camera does not deliver, none of that really matters. Here, I can easily say, no worries, the camera does deliver. For starters, the tracking, focus, and speed of the focus are very good. Very. Subjects, simply, were in frame and clear. Beyond that though, the stabilization is somewhat crazy. I have had, admittedly, minimal experience with any type of gimbal/stabilization like this prior, but I was honestly kind of floored what I was able to grab out of this thing. Everything was smooth and fluid. Like perfect. I just was not expecting that much from this device.
Quite frankly, however, I was even more impressed with the output the camera gave me. Video (and photos) was crisp, clear, smooth, just everything good. Further, the number of options and customizations available really allows you to capture everything in nearly every manner. Slow motion, timelapse, hyperlapse, motionlapse, panorama, different fps…etc. Lastly, it just captures so much data it lets you do so much more in post-production.

While I have not truly gotten a chance to utilize the mic, in testing, it did very well, and I think will be suitable for most things people will be looking to do.
Lastly, battery life has been good for me. Charging is also quite quick. Sure, it will depend on use case, but so far for me, I have zero complaints. I do not think it will be an issue.
Ultimately, I absolutely love this camera and package. It is all built very well, it is feature and accessory rich, and most importantly, it produces truly great pictures and video. That it does all of that in such a great form factor is just another bonus. Of course, it will depend on what your uses are, but if they align, I think this is a great value and I think nearly everyone would be pleased with it.

A modern take on a DJ controller that emphasizes the tactile feeling of vinyl turntables, the DJControl Inpulse T7 motorized DJ controller from Hercules is here to deliver old-school feel in the modern age! The dream of many aspiring DJs has long been rooted in the past, in the days of spinning vinyl records and creatively transitioning between tracks to add a little of the DJ’s own distinct flavor to the mix. Turntablism and vinyl are synonymous with those early days of Djing, and the innovators of the art used these tools to create a lasting image of DJs as taste-making, music-manipulating icons. Today’s modern DJs have taken to spinning on digital controllers with motorized jog wheels, vinyl discs, and slipmats that pay homage to the first DJs who paved the way for their modern success.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this, but after some time with it, I came away pretty impressed.
For starters, the build is great. It has some weight, but quite honestly, not as much as I was expecting. While I was a little surprised it was only 11lbs, it is also fairly compact, both of which make it so easy to move around and I think transporting it will be a breeze. A nice add. That said, everything is solid and seems to be put together well.
All nobs and buttons felt “right,” were responsive and logically placed. The FX section is great to use (although the lights are not the brightest on the smaller buttons). The performance pads are very responsive with a good feel, nice travel, and nice RGB. The belt driven platters have a great feel, have minimal drift, and I love the flexibility to use either the provided real 7” vinyl and slipmat or bring your own to the table. While there is a “little” play and workaround space, you really aren’t easily going to get much larger vinyl on there. Regardless, it is nice to be able to bring a custom look to the decks. I am no where near a pro, so I found the faders to be fine, albeit a little “loose” or with some “give” (if either of those make sense). You can upgrade an entire new fader panel and drop it in if you feel the need. For most, it is probably good, just something to note. Lastly, there are retractable feet, which I really appreciated. It brings the controller up to a “better” height, gives you some room underneath for cabling, laptop, whatever, and maybe even a little spill protection. All in all, I really like the build.
As for software, you get Hercules DJUCED and Serato DJ Lite. Both are good software, intuitive, and known in the community. The options and customizations are nearly endless. Serato is a little held back by the Lite version, but still great to use. Honestly, I think it is the better software, and if you already have a Pro license, you can use it here as well.
Ultimately, I really like this turntable/controller. I think it has a really fantastic build, is feature-rich, and simply has everything you are looking for in something like this. It may not be perfect (but I think it is pretty close), as I think for such a quality controller with an emphasis on the platters, they should have brought better faders, BUT, it does not have to be perfect for what it brings at this price point. The value is there. For me at least. Further, it is just so much fun to use, brings so much to the table, and while it may be more geared to the nonprofessional, I think novice and pro alike could be happy with it
