Tamra Davis' nuptial comedy Best Men comes to DVD with a pair of transfers. The widescreen anamorphic transfer preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1, and is preferable in every way to the standard full-frame transfer. The closed-captioned English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1. English, French, and Spanish subtitles are accessible. Although there are no supplemental materials of any consequence, the film's impressive cast (Drew Barrymore, Luke Wilson, and others) and the inexpensive list price makes this disc worthy of a look.

A fun romp of mis-steps

This is a fun flick to watch. It's one of those movies where one thing goes wrong & then domino's from there. But ther is good heart & humor mixed in.
What's great about it: Sean Patrick Flanery

This is a wonderful, heart breaking film that deals with a sad time in our history. The acting was wonderful & you felt the pain the characters felt.

Best Rock Album

I saw Ricky Warwick open for Def Leppard. He was alone onthe stage with just his guitar. And he quieted the crowd eagarly waiting for the main act. The albumhas beatiful lyrics, great beats & the sound of Ricky Warwicks voice just drives straight to your soul. There are fun songs & angry songs & songs of growing up in Ireland in times of trouble. He is an amazing artist & would highly recommend him to anyone.
What's great about it: Great music only matched by amazing lyrics.
What's not so great: That Ricky is not as widely known here in the states.

Joss Whedon attempted to follow up his successful series Buffy the Vampire Slayer with the science fiction-themed Firefly. Although the series failed to garner a mass audience, it did have a loyal following. Those fans will be pleased by this box set that contains every episode of the series that aired, as well as three never-before-seen episodes. All 15 episodes are presented in anamorphic widescreen. English, French, and Spanish soundtracks are rendered in Dolby Digital Surround. Commentaries are available on four of the episodes. Production featurettes, a blooper reel, and a tour of the set with Whedon round out this solid package that should be of interest to genre enthusiasts as well as Whedon's fans.

Marvel Comics broke new ground with an African-American superhero named Blade. The movie adaptation tweaked action-movie formulas by mixing martial arts and not quite accurate vampire legend. Appropriately, the New Line Platinum Series DVD adaptation of Blade also contains some surprises. The disc has all the trailers, bios, and commentary DVD viewers have come to expect. More unusual inclusions: a 20-minute documentary on blood and vampire folklore, an isolated movie score with commentary from the composer (great for music freaks), and Blade's screenwriter philosophizing about "dark comics." The many features devoted to comics and vampires keep the extra features from turning into a love-in for the movie, though pure cinema fans will enjoy the printable screenplay, deleted scenes, and a look at an alternate ending. Viewers who also like to read and listen will be pleased, because this is a talky disc packed with information, interviews, and trivia. It all looks and sounds good (letterboxed, 5.1 Surround Sound or Stereo, original 2.35:1 aspect ratio) and is enhanced for widescreen TVs. The back of the box exclaims, "It's More Than Just the Movie." It certainly is.
