The NBC series' first season begins with the origin stories of several lonely, disconnected people who learn they're destined to become superheroes. At the center of the unfolding tale is Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia), a nurse haunted by cryptic dreams who believes he's meant to do great things with his life. Peter tries to convince his politico brother Nathan (Adrian Pasdar), who is running for the U.S. Senate, that something strange is happening to both of them, but Nathan is adamant about maintaining a low profile and keeping his personal life out of the press. Meanwhile, a Texas cheerleader (Hayden Panettiere) discovers she's completely indestructible, but she's in for an even bigger shock when she realizes her family is hiding a dark secret. Over in Los Angeles, a beat cop (Greg Grunberg) develops the ability to read minds, and an Internet stripper (Ali Larter) begins to manifest a murderous alternate personality. And in Tokyo, bored cubicle drone Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka) is desperate for the kind of adventures found in comic books and Star Trek. (In a sly in-joke, Hiro's father shows up later in the season and is portrayed by Star Trek alum George Takei.) Hiro's wish is miraculously granted when he develops the ability to travel through time and space, teleporting himself instantly from a Tokyo subway to Times Square. But Hiro's elation quickly turns to fear when he witnesses a nuclear explosion lay waste to New York City. Upon teleporting home, he realizes he's just seen a glimpse of a catastrophe that will happen in a few weeks unless he can stop it. Heroes from across the globe gradually meet up and form alliances as they try to prevent the nuclear attack and fight back against a shadowy, superpowered serial killer known as Sylar (Zachary Quinto), who is able to murder the would-be superheroes and steal their abilities in the process.

the people who write and direct this show must have a psychology degree because they know just how much to give you to make you so hooked in the show and flash that to be continued and make you say ugly words and are glued until the previews for next week are done just one more snipit you will need it it is an addiction the best tv series ever suspenseful with twist you never see comming characters you love and others you love to hate and yet still others you just cant decide or you start out hateing them then change your mind the fact it is sci fi that is well written and imagnitive yet believable in a way its just amazing and original but beware the pro of not having to wait till next week may keep you without sleep till you have watched it though at least twice it needs a surgeon generals warning caution this product may make you loose sleep and say many ugly words to wait for the next season
What's great about it: excelent story line cant get enough of this show and the fact you dont have to wait till next week for another show
What's not so great: i dont like the way the disk are in the pack it is inconveinient for getting the ods out of the package

After releasing a highly criticized bare-bones edition of The Princess Bride, MGM reissued this title in a special edition that is sure to please. Whereas the original release had a nice picture, it wasn't anamorphic and it certainly showed. Framed at 1.85:1, this new anamorphic transfer is outstanding. Darks are very solid with no signs of breakdown, while colors are nearly perfect in saturation and clarity. It really is a wonderful transfer and MGM should be praised for doing it right this time. The 5.1 Dolby Digital English track is equally impressive, even if there is seldom any use of the surrounds. It's still powerful, with not a sign of any distracting elements. Also available is a mono Spanish track and subtitles in English, Spanish, and French. But the real difference between the basic disc and this version is in the supplemental materials. To begin with, a new documentary was produced on the making of this film. Nearly everyone involved, from director Rob Reiner to author/screenwriter William Goldman to actors Cary Elwes and Mandy Patinkin, contributes comments and recollection. While fairly in-depth and very well made, it's only a half hour and really makes one want more. Next are two audio commentary tracks, one from Reiner and the other from Goldman. Their love of this film is clear and each track is unique in its own way. Two brief "press kit" style featurettes from 1987 are also interesting, but recycle quite a bit from each other, plus parts are reused in the longer documentary. While humorous, four minutes of home movies shot by Elwes on the set don't amount to much and fortunately pass swiftly. Finally, wrapping up a great package is a photo gallery consisting of 88 images, two theatrical trailers, and four television spots. Is there anyone who doesn't find this film enjoyable? That's doubtful, and this disc is a testament to the staying power it has enjoyed over time.
