Decent Remake of a Cult Classic
on November 6, 2014

This is a remake of the controversial horror movie Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984). It pays some well-deserved nods to the original and the first sequel, but takes its own route with the main plot. Overall, it was just a fun and entertaining horror movie for the Christmas season that keeps you on the edge of your seat until the final seconds. The only issue I have with this movie is that you can tell it was not filmed during the winter months, but it’s not a major flaw or anything. As for the actual product, it only has a behind-the-scenes feature and deleted scenes. It would have been nice to include an audio commentary and possibly few other things, but it’s a great add to any horror collection regardless.

Best Family-Friendly Classic!
on August 9, 2011

from Peabody, MA
The Wild Thornberrys is one of the most entertaining and intellectual family-friendly animated series out there. They simply do not make kids shows like this anymore, at all. This is a great show that the whole family can watch and have fun with. It stimulates the brain, making it necessary for the viewers to pay attention and it also gives information about animals and other species all around the world. This is surely one of the best cartoons and has everything you could want, family values, fun adventures, and educational information in fun ways.
The show follows the young adventurous Eliza Thornberry who was granted the power to communicate with animals. She travels around the world with her father and host of a nature show, Nigel, her mother which films the show, Maryanne, her older sister Debbie, her friend chimpanzee Darwin, and wild boy foster-brother Donnie.
Any fan of the original will jump to buy this 20-episode set with some of the best episodes of the series. And anyone who has yet to see the show and is looking for some good wholesome family-friendly fun, this is the show for you. The only downside is the fact that this is a bare-bones edition. Meaning there are no special features, just the episodes. But that should not stop you from getting this set, it didn’t stop me! It’s tons of fun to watch Eliza and her family travel the world and uncovering the secret wonders of the animal kingdom. So go out and get your copy, because you don’t want to miss out on this classic!
What's great about it: the entire show!
What's not so great: not one special feature.

The third season of the award-winning AMC series Breaking Bad, starring Bryan Cranston as a onetime high-school chemistry teacher turned meth dealer, comes to DVD with extras that include a gag reel, cast and crew commentary, and making-of featurettes.

Season 3 is Pure Genius! (No Spoilers)
on July 23, 2011

Breaking Bad – Season Three is the best season so far. It has some of the best performances of the series so far and shows just why it has received six Emmy Awards. This season is full of shock and awe with plenty of truly heart breaking and heart throbbing scenes. Breaking Bad is one of the most brilliant and realistic dramas on television, and possibly ever. Even the scenes that could be a bit exaggerated are done in such a subtle and realistic way that you never label it as “this could never happen.” An extraordinary season that pushes the limits even further and lets you know just how far they are willing to go with their characters and storytelling.
As for the special features, there are so many that I was overwhelmed at first. It is has been a long time since I have seen so many great special features loaded into one single season set. One of the most amazing things (in my opinion) is that there is audio commentary on 9 whole episodes. The audio commentary includes series creator Vince Gilligan, Bryan Cranston, Aaron Paul, Anna Gunn, and many more cast members and writers/producers. Most hour-long dramas might give 2-3 episode commentaries for a 22-episode season. Breaking Bad gives 9 out of 13 episodes audio commentary, which is very interesting and informative for any fan. The Gag-Reel is also very hilarious. There is also plenty of “behind-the-scenes” features. The deleted & unused footage is also interesting because it was only cut for time, so it all has a purpose to the show. As usual, some uncensored episodes exist on this set like the previous ones. The only real “uncensored” parts is there are F-bombs dropped once or twice, something that obviously could not air on basic cable.
To sum it all up, any true fan of this show will adore this season 3 set and should buy it.
What's great about it: The entire season and box set!
What's not so great: not one thing!

Courage Comes Home!

THE SHOW
Courage the Cowardly Dog is a show I watched all the time as a kid. Now after debuting on television 10 years ago, the first season is finally available for fans to purchase! The episodes are very entertaining, some I do not remember, while others it feels like just yesterday I watched them. All in all it is a worthwhile set to add to your collection and show your younger cousins, siblings, or even your children. They definitely do not make cartoons like Courage anymore, what a shame.
THE ITEM
It includes thirteen 22minute-long episodes on 2-discs. Each episode is split in half with two different stories being told, just how they originally aired. The box art is traditional and stylish. The only problem is that there is not one bonus feature to be found on this set. I heard it had something to do with a copyright issue, but I can not be certain. However, the total lack of bonus features should not discourage any fan to not purchase this set. It is still worth it and if this set sells enough copies, it will grant the next season set to come out.
What's great about it: The show itself is great!
What's not so great: Not a one bonus feature, but thats not stopping me!

HORROR: The Way It Was, The Way It Should Be
on February 9, 2010

This was a brilliant throw-back to the way horror used to be (before Hollywood took it over and completely drained the life from it). It had the look and feel of a 1980s movie but the awkward lines and pauses between lines are nowhere to be found. The effects are also pretty good as well. There is not really that much gore but at the brief moments that there is, it’s very detailed. A suspenseful masterpiece that deserves more attention from others. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is a true horror fan. If you see this and thought you were a horror fan but end up not liking it then obviously you were not one to begin with.
As far as the actual product, the special features are great but there could have been more. However, considering most DVDs now just have audio commentary it is definitely better than most. The cover art is amazing and you wont regret buying this movie. It truly is a worthy addition to any horror collection.
This film has some content that (in my opinion) is not appropriate for children under the age of 15 years.
What's great about it: Probably the best Horror film i've seen in years!
What's not so great: DVD features could be more plentiful

Not Complete!

I am not here to talk about this amazing FX hit drama. I will just quickly say it is one of the best dramas on tv, check it out, and buy it.
I am here to WARN all of you potential buyers that though Best Buy has named this set "The Complete Fifth Season" it is not. Though there was a lot of mix up and confusion about it Ryan Murphy has said that season 5 would be in two separate pieces. And the episodes that aired back in January-March 2009 were just additional episodes to 5 which did not get a chance to air, even though others have called it “season 6.” Plus, the cover clearly says “season five part two”
It is a miss-leading product title to people and should be corrected, especially now since they have “Season 5 Part Two” available for pre-order at the moment. But this is a good example of why you should research something before purchasing it.
What's great about it: The Show is AMAZING!
What's not so great: WARNING: not a full season

Jason Kills Troubled Teens & More Hillbillies
on July 20, 2009

This Deluxe Edition of Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning is newly restored and loaded with special features. This sequel is the equivalent to the Friday the 13th series that Halloween III: Season of the Witch was to the Halloween series. I can not really say why because I hate spoilers but any true fan should know what I mean. It has a pretty weak plot and seems to try a little to hard at certain points also. Once again, this series is built on the corniness and ridiculously fun things within. And hey... That’s what makes a Friday the 13th movie a Friday the 13th movie! Also that is why people love it so much.
It starts off with young Tommy (Feldman) visiting Jason’s grave which ends up being a dream (yes that is a minor spoiler but not too bad). Now it is 6 years after the events in Final Chapter and Tommy is 18 years old. He has been to mental hospital after mental hospital and now is being transferred to a no-security half way home for young adults. I’m not even sure if it’s supposed to be in the Crystal Lake area, but there is no lake (except for one small scene). It seems like they were just out for money in this sequel because nothing got a chance to really develop before people were starting to get killed off. There are however, some crazy murders in here and loads of breasts, for all you sickos. (jp)
This is a great buy and has almost as much special features as Final Chapter does. If you’re a fan and a collector this is for you. ALSO: Feldman is only in that small dream sequence in the opening scene.
Complete your collection with the other Deluxe Editions...
Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter
Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning
Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives
and the awesome documentary on the long-running series....
His Name was Jason: 30 Years of Friday the 13th
Parents are strongly CAUTIONED, this contains material not appropriate for children under 16 years of age (in my opinion).
What's great about it: Some of the more creative murders and tons of features
What's not so great: The plot of the movie and ending

Feldman V.S. Jason
on July 20, 2009

This Deluxe Edition of Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter is the third sequel in the Friday the 13th series and is the last one to be directly one after the other (in the F13th universe at least). It also has child actor icon of the ‘80s Corey Feldman, who takes on Jason. There are a lot of corny scenes and some of the murders are very over-the-top, but hey... That’s what makes a Friday the 13th movie a Friday the 13th movie!
It starts off at the end of the part 3 where they are loading Jason’s body into the ambulance and take to the morgue. He soon escapes after killing a few people. Now these young 20-or something year old kids are renting a house in the Crystal Lake area, but not exactly in Crystal Lake. The house next-door to the rented home is where young Tommy (Feldman) and his sister Trish live with their Mother. They soon meet Rob who is “hunting for bears” but really is searching for his sister who was murdered in Part 2. The only continuity problem is that it is suppose to take place just a day after the events in Part 3 and since Part 3 took place a day after the events in Part 2 that would make Part 3 be on Sunday the 15th?
This is a great buy and is so far loaded with the most special features out of all the other deluxe releases.
Complete your collection with the other Deluxe Editions...

Bittersweet Daisies
on July 20, 2009
Posted by: iknowmyhorror

I usually never post a review until I purchase the item so I can comment on the presentation of the feature on the DVD and the special features. But this is the exception...
Pushing Daisies found it's fan-base, the only problem is there was not enough. There are many speculations on why this phenomenal show failed in the ratings during the airing of season 2. From all the information gathered it had nothing to do with the show, no matter what people may say. It was because ABC did not bring it back in the spring of 2008 after the writers strike and waited to do so until fall 2008 (almost 10 months later). Two other shows on the same network failed as well due to the long wait for the next season.
This box set is a bittersweet release because its great to have the second and final season of this amazingly refreshing show. But it is also disappointing because the show will not be returning to TV. There is news that a comic series is coming out soon that will continue the story from where it left off. Hopefully there will be a movie, because that would be awesome and give all the fans the closure that ABC obviously does not care about.
I highly recommend this set to any and all fans. It’s on sale for the first week at least and that price is very good. The only thing I can not comment to highly on is the special features, since it has not come out yet I have no clue what the actual contents of the features are. Though the details on Best Buy suggest they are... plentiful.
What's great about it: Everything!
What's not so great: it was a short season and was cancelled

This Trumps Twilight!

Near Dark is not the most known about movie with it coming out the same year as "The Lost Boys" you could say it barely survived the '80s. But there are those who remember and love this movie. If you are wondering what i meant on the "what's great" section by saying "if you have an open mind" I meant because the story line is very similar to Stephanie Meyers' book Twilight and now the movie. Im not going to say that she ripped off the movie but i will say it's a very odd coincidence.
Anyways if you enjoyed The Lost Boys and Buffy the Vampire Slayer (the series) you will love this movie. The only thing is, is that there are barley any extras and Lionsgate designed the cover which looks like it's supposed to aim at twilight fans or something.
What's great about it: Very creative and original (if you have an open mind)
What's not so great: Not really an special features

when does season two of Sons of Anarchy come out? also final season of The Tudors and Sparticus blood and sand

I'm pretty sure that Season 2 of Sons of Anarchy comes out sometime in August 2010.

Spartacus: Blood and Sand Season 1 is on its way, no release date has been set. I'm gonna say it will be in stores probably by late summer/early fall 2010.

The Tudors Season 4 (a.k.a. the final season) has not even finished airing yet, but i'm sure it will arrive in stores by Fall 2010.
