Excellence in music

George Harrison was an amazing musician and this CD is an indication of just how pervasive his music truly is. This CD is an excellent find and is highly recommended to those who appreciate the accomplishments of either George Harrison or The Beatles. Buy this one... you won't be sorry!
What's great about it: The compilation of songs included and these versions of each
What's not so great: I didn't find this sooner!
I would recommend this to a friend!

I swear by Sony DVD players as I've never had any issue whatsoever. The connection is very simple and the results excellent. There really is nothing else to say. I would and will buy another again and again for other rooms, etc.
What's great about it: Very easy to use, great picture, upconversion
What's not so great: Nothing found

As visually stylish as it is graphically violent, this thriller directed by Luc Besson concerns Mathilda (Natalie Portman), a 12-year-old girl living in New York City who has been exposed to the sordid side of life from an early age: her family lives in a slum and her abusive father works for drug dealers, cutting and storing dope. Mathilda doesn't much care for her parents, but she has a close bond with her four-year-old brother. One day, she returns from running an errand to discover that most of her family, including her brother, have been killed in a raid by corrupt DEA agents, led by the psychotic Stansfield (Gary Oldman). Mathilda takes refuge in the apartment of her secretive neighbor, Leon (Jean Reno), who takes her in with a certain reluctance. She discovers that Leon is a professional assassin, working for Tony (Danny Aiello), a mob kingpin based in Little Italy. Wanting to avenge the death of her brother, Mathilda makes a deal with Leon to become his protégée in exchange for work as a domestic servant, hoping to learn the hitman's trade and take out the men who took her brother's life. However, an affection develops between Leon and Mathilda that changes his outlook on his life and career. Besson's first American film boasted a strong performance from Jean Reno, a striking debut by Natalie Portman, and a love-it-or-hate-it, over-the-top turn by Gary Oldman. Léon was originally released in the U.S. in 1994 as The Professional, with 26 minutes cut in response to audience preview tests. Those 26 minutes were restored in the director's preferred cut, released in 1996 in France as Léon: Version Intégrale and in the U.S. on DVD as Léon: The Professional in 2000.

This movie rocks! A great relationship between a hitman and a young girl that's from an abusive family. A great early movie of Natalie Portman's, and Jean Reno was awesome too! A definite buy!!

Revenge, Tony Scott's 1990 tale of adultery and backstabbing comes to DVD with this no frills release. For a film with such a little following, an abundance of extras would probably seem wasted, so it's no surprise that the best the disc has to offer in the way of extras is a theatrical trailer. Still, with interactive menus and both widescreen 2.35:1 and standard 1.33:1 transfers, fans should find it to be an adequate DVD. On the audio end, the disc features Dolby Digital Surround tracks in English, French, and Spanish. Subtitles in all three languages are also included.

An excellent story and film

I thoroughly enjoy this movie. Kevin Costner, Anthony Quinn, and Madeleine Stowe give a wonderful performance, all against a beautiful mexican landscape.
This is one of my favorite Kevin Costner films, along with The Postman and Dances with Wolves. I strongly recommend this movie to any Costner fans or anyone wanting an excellent tragic love story.
What's great about it: The plot and the acting
What's not so great: Nothing that I can think of

A waste of my time

I could see what the director was doing, but I just kept wishing he would stop doing it! In fact, this movie is passed around as this awesome movie that you have to keep watching until it "unfolds". Haha... then, the laughs come at the end for those that actually stick it out!
Invariably, every person we've duped into watching this movie, wished they could get that time wasted, back.
The cinematography is very good, and the acting is good; it's all about what in my mind is a poor means of illustrating the overall story.
Oh yeah, I would recommend this to a friend, and often do... but, only as a very funny joke!
What's great about it: Once it ended, I knew I never had to watch it again!
What's not so great: That I paid for this movie.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Anthony Minghella's award-winning adaptation of Charles Frazier's Cold Mountain debuts on DVD with this excellent two-disc Collector's Edition from Miramax. The film itself is presented in a widescreen anamorphic transfer that preserves the original theatrical aspect ratio of 2.35:1. John Seale's first-rate cinematography comes through in every scene. English soundtracks are rendered in both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1, and a French soundtrack has been recorded as well. English, Spanish, and French subtitles are accessible. Supplemental materials include a commentary track recorded by Minghella and editor Walter Murch. Although their comments are a tad dry, they are full of information about why they made the various artistic decisions that they did, and, as is to be expected, they are full of praise for every member of their admittedly excellent cast. Also included is a surprisingly entertaining 90-minute stage show that was performed at Royce Hall. The show consists of musicians Jack White and Alison Krauss performing songs from the film, readings from Frazier's novel by Brendan Gleeson and Kathy Baker, and readings from the script by Jude Law and Nicole Kidman. Minghella himself is interviewed also during the show. A pair of making-of featurettes and a comparison of the final film to the storyboards reveals how much forethought went into the making of the film. This is another quality release from Miramax.

A Classic Movie

An excellent story of love, and how civil war changed the lives of so many! I enjoy this movie so much every time I see it and I am totally surprised not to hear much about Renee Zellwege in this movier! She gives an incredible performance and I just love when she says how "men" create the weather... etc. Please look for this part, I expect you'll love it too!
Jude Law, Nicole Kidman, Renee Zellweger, and others all did an incredible job acting in this movie! It was also nice to see the contribution from Jack White of the White Stripes.
What's great about it: Excellent storyline, cast, acting, a full package!
What's not so great: Not really a good kids movie.

This movie is an awesome respresentation of what Denzel Washington is capable of. And, Dakota Fanning is incredible in this movie! Man on Fire is certainly full of action, storyline, and acting in a way that any movie lover will enjoy! Get this movie... you won't be disappointed!
Add in Christopher Walken, and add in some grainy cinematography that drops you right in the lap of Mexico and you have an incredible movie work!
What's great about it: Great story, great acting, great plot, great action, great from beginning to end
What's not so great: I can't leave the movie once it starts

Image on TV is smaller than screen.

New LCD TV has 3 screen size options: one cuts off top & bottom of image, one stretches image sideways, and one is normal but much smaller than the actual screen. TVs on display at Best Buy all had images that were proportionate and filled screen.
Do we need HDTV service to get large image/fill screen? Thanks!
Paula & Jack,

HD LCD TVs today normally have an option to fill the screen with even standard definition programming -- this option is normally default.

If you make the purchase, enjoy! HD LCD is incredible!!
