With a range of up to 28 miles, the Motorola Talkabout® T9680RSAME is a hazard alert weather radio that combines local area emergency alerts with the power of 2-way communication. The Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME) technology allows you to filter out unnecessary distant weather and non-weather broadcasts and, instead, monitors only your local area! The T9680RSAME radio displays a three letter code for the type of emergency, and a voice message plays when an alert is broadcast.

One of MGM's most joyously rambunctious musicals gets a deluxe treatment for this special two-disc DVD release. This edition of Seven Brides for Seven Brothers from Warner Bros. Home Video features two versions of the film -- the original, shot in a special Cinemascope process at the aspect ratio of 2.55:1, and another filmed in a more conventional widescreen process at 1.77:1. Both versions appear in this edition, letterboxed in their proper aspect ratio and enhanced for anamorphic play on 16 x 9 monitors. The audio for the 2.55:1 version has been remixed for Dolby Digital 5.1, while the 1.77:1 version features a single-channel mix in Dolby Digital Mono. Both versions feature the audio in its original English-language version, as well as a dubbed track in French, with optional subtitles in English, French, and Spanish also featured. Bonus materials include a commentary track from director Stanley Donen; a documentary on the making of the movie featuring Howard Keel, Jane Powell, and Jacques D'Amboise; newsreel footage of the film's premiere; a collection of trailers for Stanley Donen's pictures; and more.

This is a belly laugh movie. The mucical is uplifting and entertaining for the entire family.
Though Paramount didn't go out of its way with this DVD of John Hughes' Planes, Trains and Automobiles, what they did do has some merit. The 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer is the highlight of the disc. While it's certainly not, by any stretch of the imagination, reference quality, the picture still stands on its own. The earthy shades are captured pleasingly and skin tones always seem to be right on target. Black levels also look correct, as they are dense, but don't overtake the scene. It's not a film that's overly filled with color and the transfer reproduces that splendidly. The 5.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack, though expectedly centered more up front for the majority of the film, does have moments where the surrounds are used effectively. Specifically, Hughes use of music livens up the audio. What's disappointing is the lack of supplements. Even Ferris Bueller's Day Off had a commentary track from the director, but here, nothing -- not even the seemingly obligatory trailer. It's a shame, because even though the movie does stand on its own, so much more could be said about this film in one way or another.
