AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!

This came out in 1970 and shook the foundations of rock music forever. Iommi's blues influenced guitar playing, Osbourne's political and social lyrics, and the great rhythm section of Butler and Ward pounded thier way into your skull. This is it kids the best so go and get it.

An excellent live album

The Melvins....Houdini....Live...Hey! Houdini studio album was the first I got from them and it is awsome. This is that times ten. It doesn't follow the same track listing as the studio effort whitch is a refreshing change of pace and some of the songs e.g., Pearl Bomb and Honey Bucket are speed way up. Buzzo's vocals are crazy in some parts e.g., Joan of Arc and Night Goat. They added a song from earlier in thier carrer to Set Me Srtaight to add some spice, nice. If you have never heard of The Melvins this would not be a good place to start, as in the live album, the studio would though.

Zombie's best

This is thier second release, first on major label.
If you have heard of White Zombie it wa probably from their 2nd album Astro Creep because it had 2 or 3 radio hits. But this disc was by far thier best because it was more of a pure rock sound and not a lot of additional synth type stuff on Astro or Rob's solo stuff. The disc has some wierd radio excerpts that were taken from movies and made for the disc to transition between some songs. It has monsterous intros, circa Metallica and Megadeth heydays. If you get into WZ this is the way to go, this unfortunatly I think Rob's swan song even though he had another album after this (Super Swingin Sexy.. doesn't count, it was a remix disc).

Brutal Auditory Assult

If you are into any type of heavy music you will like this disc, maybe even love it. This album is heavy and punishing with a massive amount of drums and bass slightly beneath a wall guitars and strained alcohol soaked vocals, it is trully heavy metal! The opener has this huge drum intro that fades in and goes from there into hard rocking guitars and doesn't stop for six minutes. The next song has this beutiful acoustic break near the end, it is also my favorite part of the album. the rest of the disc puts you in your place by bashing you in the head. The last track is an instrumental. Great music for your buck.

I do not have the remastered version, just the original.
If you are gonna get a Primus disc this would be the place to start. This was their first studio effort and it totally rocks. Grooving bass, crazy guitar work and amazing drumming. Primus still has a great sound but this and Sailing the Seas of Cheese are thier best albums.

heavy metal at it's best

This is Metallica's 4th studio album, first without Cliff Burton and Jason Newsted's first. To metal and Metallica purists this is not their best, that would go to Master of Puppets. I do agree that Puppets was AWESOME, but this disc has some of the most punishing heaviest riffs that the 80's offered.
The first track, Blackened, is about mankind raveging mother earth and not taking care of her.
Track 2, the title song is a 9 minute opus with a beutifully orchestrated acoustic guitar(s) intro that blast into a crazy time change and has some of the best giutar work on the album.
Eye of the Beholder is a mean bruiser.
One is probably the biggest song from this album. It gave them their first music video and radio hit. It is a war themed song and was written about a WWI-based movie.
Shortest Straw is a fast paced song with An excellent solo section and good use of the english language in the lyrics.
Harvester of Sorrow starts with heavy drum toms and chunky guitars until the guitars qiut and a littlew drum solo starts the heaviest riff of the album.
Track 7, Frayed Ends Of Sanity has a cool intro circa the 7 dwarves, ow wee ow...ow ow.
Track 8 is a 9 minute plus instrumental that the late Cliff Burton helped write and is one of Metallica's finest songs in my opinion, ever.
Track 9 Dyers Eve is the fastes song on the album and is about a young child's grip with losing thier parents.
The dics is over 65 minutes but flys buy in what seems only 30. So go and get this if you don't have it, it won't dissapoint.

Excellent alt-rock album

I just bought this cd 2 hours ago and listened to it twice.
The first time I heard Dino Jr was in the early 90's on the radio with "Start Choppin" from the disc after this, "Where You Been?" and was instantly hooked. I can't believe it took me over 10 years to get another album by them but I am glad I did. Imagine Neil Young singing and some noise, garage, folk-style band backing him. That's the best deswcription I can come up with. DJ has been around since the 80's and still don't get alot of credit for thier style. It's probably cause they are from Vermont. The album has rockers and ballads but the typical semi-moody-mellow that keeps them an originator. The bonus tracks are pretty cool also. Tracks 12 &13 are b-sides from the "Start Choppin" single from '93 and "Hot Burrito #2" is a cover of Gram Parson's. This would be a good starting point to get into these guys, but they never "sold out", so any disc would be good.

This is the first album I bought from the Maryland quartet and now I have thier entire catalog now. This is the second offering from them and is completly different from "Transitional Speedway League". This disc has been called everything from "stoner rock" to "doom", no matter what it is one album that kicks all the way through. The opener "Big News I" is a personal favorite of mine, a slow rocker with a jazzy bass line. "Big News II" is the harder counterpart. "Supergrass" is the highlight of the album. At over six minutes it a slow brooding song about driving in space, take it from there. I listen to this album atleast once a month, if not more. The only other album by these guys, who are now a five piece is "Blast Tyrrant". An outstanding rock record from an outstanding rock band, PERIOD.

I'm sure you have heard the song "Epic". It was huge in the late 80's for thier use of rapped words over heavy music. This disc would be the foundation block for nu-metal, mid-90's post grunge and many more styles of music. This is the first offering from FNM with new singer Mike Patton, from Mr. Bungle. FNM had two previous discs that were good, but nothing like this. They had 3 singles from this album, "from out of nowhere", "Epic", and "Falling to pieces". It also contains on of the best instrumetals in music, "Woodpecker from Mars", and a killer version of Black Sabbath's "War Pigs". This album contains everything that embodies what was FNM: heavy and melodic riffs, thundering rhythm section; of which I am a constant student, and amazingly delivered vocals. This album should be the stepping stone into what is and was FNM. P.S.--also check out FNM's Angel Dust a wonderfully dark album.

One of the top ten metal albums...EVER!

If you like metal you'll love Leviathan. This has it all crushing riffs, crazy time changes, beautiful arrangments, and a ten minute opus. If you have never heard anything by Mastodon this is the perfect place to start. From Blood and Thunder, which has Neil Fallon from Clutch singing, you are caught in the tidal wave that is Leviathan. The disc as a whole is absolutely amazing, but the high points include: B & T, Seabeast, Iron Tusk, and Hearts Alive. I have had the privaledge to see these masters play Hearts live and they give 110% on both versions. This is it boys and girls Leviathan, one of the top ten metal albums ever, so go and get it.
