This release contains two seperate extended vesions plus the original theater release. I was dissappointed that this edition was not in the 2.4:1 format. I did not get to see this movie in the theater but considering that the deleted scenes are in the 2.4:1 ratio I believe that the movie was formated to fill current wide screens.
I bought the Collector's Edition on blu-ray for a high-quality extended-cut of the movie. The box set is organized very poorly. The 3 versions of the movie are split into halves, the first half of all versions are on disc one, the second half of all versions on disc two. This requires you to switch blu-rays halfway through the movie. The quality also seems very poor for a blu-ray, standard DVDs view better on my TV then this box set.
I regret buying this box set, I would have bought the original version on blu-ray had I known this. This box set is garbage and does the movie Avatar no justice.

Further research on this movie has informed me that the HD quailty of this film is in fact correct. Blu-ray.com has a very good explanation about the filming of this movie with explanations on camera types. I was incorrect in stating that the HD quality was very poor and hope this will not be an issue in your choice to purchase this movie. For what it is worth, "I like the movie."
