This band just keeps getting better. This cd is a lot different from their previous ones but just as good. They pull away from the screamo rock they have previously been associated with and really tone it down for this album. Every song is a rocking piece of work, and the music and guitar solos are unbelievable. One of the stand out songs on the album is "A Little Piece of Heaven," which is an eight minute song recounting the ups and downs of a relationship, which we can all relate to. "Critical Acclaim" comes off a little hardcore but really has a great message if you listen to the words. Some other great songs on the album are "Lost," "Almost Easy," and "Gunslinger." The album ends with the only slow song on the album, "Dear God." This song is an amazing love song and probably very relevant for anyone in the music industry that has a significant other at home. The singer talks about how he is always away and missing his girl and he asks God to watch over her when he can't be there. This is an amazing cd, and even if you didn't like Avenged Sevenfold's cds in the past, you should give this one a try. This band knows how to rock!
What's great about it: great music, awesome lyrics, good combo of slow and fast songs
What's not so great: don't have as many awesome guitar solos as previous albums.
This is one of the rare cds you find where every song on the album is awesome. I'm sure they had a hard time choosing which songs to release as singles, because they are all so good. "Thunder" is by far one of the best, though. It's an acoustic recording of one of the best love songs ever. Another good thing about this album is it has a nice mix of slow songs and upbeat songs. Most albums tend to have a lot more of one than the other. They've also got a nice mix of themes among the songs. Some are about being in love, like "Hero/Heroine" and "Thunder," some are about losing a love, such as "Learning to Fall" and "Broken Man," and some are about being young and free, like "Great Escape" and "Five Minutes to Midnight." These guys have undoubtedly made a promising start in their career with such a great album.
What's great about it: great music, great lyrics, worth the money
