Its hard to review this CD without reviewing this band. Anyone that has followed them since the mid 90's, know that this group of musicians is far from celebrity and it shows in how they treat their fans, and how they treat their fans to music. Its amazing what musicians can do without a major label pulling the strings.
Sister Hazel has disappeared from the bright spotlights of major radio hits and created music that feeds the sole and not someone's wallet. This CD is very reminiscent of that. The songs have a variety yet still find a way to tie the album together from front to back. A great asset of this album is that there are no stand out tracks. You don't grab this and send it to track 3, you grab it and you go from front to back (and then possibly put it on repeat once again). The cover and album name certainly fit what this album is best suited for....driving. This is a great driving album. Whether its a vaction, a long commute or just a relaxing drive through the trees.
Even a slightly average album is worth paying $5 for. This album far exceeds "average" and you just can't go wrong. The band does what it does best, and that is combine oil and water in its music with a raspy yet soothing vocal, a powerful yet melodic lead guitar, and a harmonious yet boisterous backing vocals.
You can't go wrong with this CD. Although I don't think anything compares to "Chasing Daylight", this album will quickly become one of my favorites of theirs.
What's great about it: The price is amazing, but I would have paid $20 if asked.
What's not so great: Its time to change over to the more "earth-friendly" CD packaging
I would recommend this to a friend!
