"Think Fast" by artist "Just Left" is not your typical POP album. Like its title, this is in fact a speed pop/rock album where every song is full of energy. But, even more unique is that this is one of those rare albums that sends a message to the listeners and carries it through nearly every song... The songs end up being a response to each other, and despite the difficulties in pulling this off, Just Left successfully gives you a unique song with incredibly imaginative lyrics playing off several themes.
Absolutely MUST listen to the album more than once. Over time it grows on you as you begin to understand that each song is like a puzzle piece to an over arching story.
It is an incredible achievement that few bands can pull off but they did it.
What I got from the album was the concept of knowing that in a relationship, you made some mistakes and recognize your blame for them, but you also recognize that you can change yourself and become a better man. A message of envy (cause your second best), of past memories you wish to forget, and so on are also in here. This isn't your typical, "Give me one more chance," message, but it is a message of PROVING your worth to your lady all over again or your lady proving her worth to you.
Here's some example lyrics:
Finding You in Yourself: "I'm still stuck, lost in something, lost in something To be found and eventually I'll finally get it right"
I Call it Like I see it "It's just one of those times When you put 'em down or fight Just to prove to those you've got it in you"
Don't Hold Your Breath "These words are not worth telling at all But I messed up and now I'm stuck In this mess that I created And it feels like today The whole world is watching me"
About the only issue I have is that despite the name of the album "Think Fast" I still felt that a slow moving ballad would have helped greatly here. So, I give the album 4.5 stars out of 5.
What's great about it: After multiple play throughs, you end up discovering something special.
What's not so great: Despite its name, "Think Fast," I still wish it had a ballad.
I've had the pleasure to know Stephen Hull, a great guy and keyboardist for Rocky Loves Emily, as the keyboardist for Woodward.
Do yourself a favor and get this album. It is rare to hear such inventive lyrics and style as these guys can bring. Excellent blend of chirpy, happy, vibes mixed with a disco rock grit at times.
"Be Mine Tonight" is one of my favorites as it has the flow and power of a power ballad. But, honestly, there's not a song that won't pump you up and have you dancing on the dance floor (or jumping on your bed). It is start to finish epinephrine bliss to hear these tunes...love it.
They sound a lot like Jonas Brothers...same energetic spirit as them.
What's great about it: All Dance worthy songs that fill you up with excitement
What's not so great: Their shows are selling out, hard to get tickets
