This product has never worked!

On August 12, 2016, I ordered the Whynter 50 Pint Portable Dehumidifier (Model RPD-501WP) from Amazon. It arrived on August 19, 2016. I plugged it in and turned it on. The “Eb: error code was displayed, indicating that the drain bucket was removed or was not installed correctly. I made several attempts to remove and reinstall the drain bucket properly, but to no avail…the “Eb” error code continued to be displayed. I contacted the manufacturer and reported the problem on August 29, 2016.
Over the next month, the company and I exchanged several phone calls and e-mails. I did the diagnostic work that they required and provided them with all of the information and photos that they requested. Due to higher priority “life” events, I was unable to follow up with them until late December 2016. They consequently sent me two replacement drain buckets, neither of which solved the issue…the “Eb” error code continued to be displayed.
Their warranty for this unit states in part: “Should your Whynter portable dehumidifier prove defective within one year from the date of purchase, return the defective part or appliance, freight prepaid (with two months of purchase; after two months to one year, customer will be responsible for freight cost to Whynter’s service department), along with an explanation of the claim to Whynter LLC.”
At this point, I decided to either have them repair or replace the unit. They informed me that, even though my original complaint was registered with the two month period, I would have to pay the freight charges to their repair facility because of my delay in following up with them. Based on a quote from UPS’ website, the cost to ship the unit to them is more than the price I paid for it. The company has offered to cover a majority of the cost of shipping the unit to them, but I am not inclined to so since the unit never worked and it was reported to them within their two-month window.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
