Cheap plastic fails after 6 weeks

According to Sony Customer Relations daily use of a product for 6 weeks is excessive and physical failure of a product is not covered by warranty.
If under engineered materials are not a manufacturers defect I don't know what is. Sony used to be a great trustworthy brand, no longer apparently.
