They don't make 'em like this anymore....

Remember when there were genre blending films that were smart, AND fun to watch...? I'm talking about Romero's ... of the Dead series, early John Carpenter films, The Evil Dead series, The Mad Max series. Movies that upped your adrenaline, and made you feel like you just got off a great roller coaster ride when the end credits roll. Daylight's End is one of these films with wall-to-wall action, jump in your seat scares, and some of the coolest guys in movies cast in lead roles. Johnny (Black Hawk Down, The Fast & Furious, Sinners and Saints) Strong who's acting can make you cry and say "f*ck yeah" to yourself in the same scene. Speaking of scene-stealers, two of the best in film are also cast, Louis (My Big, Fat Greek Wedding, Sinners and Saints, One in the Chamber) Mandylor, and the beloved Lance (Aliens, Hard Target, Johnny Handsome, Near Dark) Henriksen. All the actors are expertly directed by William (Sinners and Saints, The Hit List) Kaufman who makes the most of an action sequence and dramatic tone. Daylight's End is his first dive into the horror genre, but he excels in the scare-to-you-jump and gore department. Yet, this film that is more of a survival and revenge piece where Strong's character, Rourke, is on a hunting mission to expel the one zompire that turned his wife and unborn baby, and every creeper in his path. Rourke finds his target leading a legion of zompires to attack a group of survivors hiding in a compound that was once a police precinct. If you like to be authentically scared, and love to see well-directed, plausible action sequences, and actually care about every survivor characters fate, then you HAVE TO WATCH DAYLIGHT"S END! I've now watched it five times on the big and little screen, and it just gets better, and Better, and BETTER with each viewing. It's more than just a cool movie, it is a movie worth all of the praise it's getting at film festivals, and then some.
