Best Pokemon Game Yet! A Must Buy!
on November 29, 2016

Over the Thanksgiving Weekend I found myself walking out of Bestbuy with a New Nintendo 3ds and a copy of Pokemon Sun which is the counterpart to Pokemon Moon. What drove me to buy it was the promise of new and different gameplay and an exciting new region to explore. But did it deliver on those promises?
The last Pokemon game I played was Pokemon White which came out about 6 years ago. However even though some time has passed the last couple of releases have stuck to the old style of gameplay. You start off with your first Pokemon given to you at the start of the game. Then as you progress through the game you collect more Pokemon to add to your team which You use to battle other Pokemon trainers. Your ultimate goal in the game is to go through different cities and towns and challenge the gym leaders who are the strongest Pokemon trainers in their city. After defeating each leader you obtain a gym badge and once you collect all eight badges you go on to face the Elite Four and the Pokemon League Champion. This formula of gameplay has been used for the past 20 years with minor tweaks and adjustments for each new installment. This type of gameplay may get boring after a while but fans of the series still enjoy it.
Upon first starting my adventure I immediately realized the graphical improvement over its predecessors. That may be a given as it has been 6 years since I played a Pokemon game but the leap from 2d to 3d models have definitely made the game a treat to look at. Pokemon Sun and Moon take place in region based on Hawaii called Alola, so the setting is dense with lush foliage and vibrant colors. The game started off like many of the ones before it, get your first Pokemon from the Pokemon Professor and begin your adventure to become the very best Pokemon trainer. However the objective was quite different. Instead of collecting gym badges there were four different islands to visit and you must take each of the Island Trials. These trials don't only consist of battling though. They include little minigames such as scavenger hunts and puzzles which is a breath of fresh air from all the constant battling.. This game also ties in the story much better than before. In previous games you could almost entirely skip over the story as your main objective was to win the Pokemon League. In Pokemon Sun and Moon you help a Pokemon named Cosmog from being used for evil by the two antagonistic groups, the Aether Foundation and Team Skull. After you save Cosmog and finish all the Island Trials you still have to take on the Pokemon League and cement yourself as Champion of the Alola region. Even after the main story is over there is still plenty to do as their is an online mode where you can battle against and trade with your friends in which you can pour several more hours into.
Pokemon Sun and Moon may be the best pokemon games I’ve ever played because the setting was beautiful, the different types of pokemon were awesome, and the gameplay was fresh and exciting. That is why, in my opinion, Pokemon Sun and Moon is a must buy for any fan or newcomer to the series.
I would recommend this to a friend!
