Pretty Happy - Not for 4K Gaming
on February 21, 2017

I went in looking at 55" 1080 TVs, left with this 4k Toshiba for $400, on sale.

Pretty happy with it after the first week. The picture looks really good, maybe not GREAT, but for the price, it is more than I expected. Running it in 1080p looks better than the 1080p Insignias that are comparable. IMO. The Clearframe and Edge Enhancer drive me insane (everything looks like a 90s sitcom), but can be turned manually off in any mode.

The problem (thus no 5-star): You cannot play anything fast-paced in the 4k upscale resolution. More precisely, if your output is only 1080p (like the Xbox One) the TV has too much to process in order to upscale, and there is about a 1/4 to 1/2 second lag. Obviously, no problem for TV or a movie, but for racing and FPS games, you pretty much have to run it in 1080p. The audio and video are still perfectly synced, they just lag behind the controller input. (Forza Horizon 3 was next to impossible in 4k). I have not tried with an XB One S or other native 4K output yet.
Chromecast seems to always run in 1080p unless I am missing something. Pretty big bummer there, but it can still be upscaled. (mostly run Netflix from Android tablet)

Although slow, the upscale to 4k looks REALLY good. (for an upscale)
The remote doesn't have any numbers on it, but that's no big deal to me.
It boots to whatever input was used last.
Solid metal legs, easy assembly.
Wall mountable.
Chromecast supplies a customizable slideshow for when the TV is on standby.
Seems to have a great viewing angle.
Note: this is not a smart TV, relies entirely on mobile devices, etc.
My Best Buy number: 249497626
I would recommend this to a friend!

What are the reviews for playing video games on this TV?

No good for gaming in upscaled 4k. The processor in the tv is too slow and you will have 1/4 to 1/2 second controller input lag. Works well on 1080p though!

Does this tv have the same issue as vizio of requiring the use of a phone app to Manually adjust picture settings and audio since it contains chromecast?

Nope! All picture settings are controlled directly from the TV remote. No number pad, though.
