Fair to average - with caveats

Our central A/C system broke down at the beginning of the hottest weekend of the year; it was in the area of 115+ outside. Not good. Our ranch style house was built in 1957 and insulation didn’t seem to have been a priority with the developer as our place seems to be essentially devoid of any. It quickly became over 95 degrees in my living room.
I needed a portable A/C unit quick to at least make the bedroom tolerable until the central system could be fixed. After a quick look on the Best Buy website, I decided a 14,000 BTU model would do the trick in the short term but when I arrived at BB the only unit still available was this one at only 10,000 BTU. I could order one of the more powerful units, but then I’d have to wait several business days for delivery. Still, I was hoping this could at least make the 10’ x 12’ bedroom endurable.
Before I proceed, I really must warn you. The manufacturers of these type of units all stress portability. Sure. Be advised that this is extremely subjective and qualified! Technically, yes, it’s indeed portable. But so is your washing machine if it has casters. And so is a piano.
Out of the box, the actual unit itself seemed decent enough, but unfortunately two major shortcomings were immediately obvious. 1) the duct hose supplied is about 4 feet long when extended, which is far too short for flexibility (no pun intended) of location. 2) the power cord is, likewise, far too short. If you are not fortunate enough to have a window that isn’t too high from the floor AND has a power outlet in its very immediate vicinity, you are going to be right out of luck (actually, SOL).
If you’re thinking, “No problem, I’ll get a longer length of duct hose and just use an extension cord” then you’d be wrong. The manual very specifically states that using another duct hose and/or a longer length of hose will end up causing a malfunction. It also states very plainly to NOT use an extension cord.
I was lucky and the window/power outlet arrangement I had to deal with was just barely within the dimension parameters to allow the unit to be connected. I had to rest the unit on a small table to make this arrangement work and had to place a towel on the table so the casters wouldn’t allow the unit to simply roll off at the slightest provocation. I suppose I could’ve upended the unit and removed the casters, but I wasn’t inclined to do that.
After fiddling with the supplied window kit, I had the ducting hose set up and faced the moment of truth. I turned it on and enjoyed a nice blast of cold air. Success!
The temperature window displayed ’99.’ Could that be right? Maybe… it was awfully hot in that room. As the display only utilized two digits, it may well have been hotter. Yikes! I figured, “Oh well, in an hour or two at most it ought to be more bearable.”
After twelve hours – yes, that’s not a typo – it had cooled down overnight to a mere 83. Did I mention I also had the room’s 52” ceiling fan going at its fastest speed and two stand-alone fans belting away? In conclusion, I would have to say that this machine is a step up from just opening the fridge door and sticking your head in, but not by much. If you have a very small room and aren’t dealing with such extreme temperatures, you may find this adequate.
I will be returning this and exchanging it for a more powerful unit once they are in stock.

I already have one of these from last year. I have to tell you - it's a work of genius. You know those cheesy advertisements which proclaim "Fun for all ages!"? Well, in this case it's actually true. I can't think of anyone who won't start laughing with this around. And even if they don't laugh, you'll be the one in stitches because their non-reaction is so hilarious.
Let's face it - we all love scatological humor whether it's overt or a guilty pleasure. This is one Seriously FUN toy. And I'm a senior citizen! What I wouldn't have given for one of these when I was younger! Comedy gold.

A great low-cost gadget

Everyone with BT earbuds or headphones should have one of these. It turns any device with an audio jack into a BT enabled device at a very reasonable price. Only drawback is a noticeable delay in the audio when watching TV. Voices are not synch'd with the actor's mouth.

How does this merit a 4-star review??

"Only drawback is a noticeable delay in the audio when watching tv."
Oh, is that all... Hey, that's kind of like reviewing a boat and saying the "only" drawback is it leaks.
4 stars? Are you kidding? For that sort of issue, it ought to have had one.
