I bought this Insignia card reader a few months ago when I upgraded to a camera with a CF card. I thought that for $30, it would be a reasonably good product, I wasn't buying a $10 thing on amazon.
I am a semi-professional photographer, and I have a high quality card, and a higher end consumer computer.
Last weekend after spending the whole weekend getting photos for a charity auction, I went to upload and found the majority of my files were corrupted and unable to be used. I deleted then from my computer and tried to upload again, and this time it worked.
Today I went into Boston to photograph street performers and city scapes, and I came home to edit them. The same thing happened again. I attempted to delete the files and re-upload. Corrupted files again. This has gone on for about 3 hours now.
I would not recommend anybody get this product. It is cheaply made, does not function well, and will waste time, money, and your patience. Someone with a short temper could easily be motivated to destroy their $5k computer setup because of this non-functional product in a nice looking case.
Spend $5 more and get a good one from a photo superstore with reputable brands. You'll thank me when this stops functioning after the return policy expires.

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
