Garbage! Wifi and Freezing Issues.
on August 2, 2016

I am knowledgable in PC's. It took 6 hours to get it to read my Mifi Hot spot. After I finally got it working it stopped working after 2 days. Out of desperation I called HP support which is really 3rd party support who wanted to charge me $99 to fix a new PC. I refused service.....I fixed the issues myself after many more hours of working on it. But the connection issues, once fixed, are never fixed permanently, they always pop back up after a few days use. I then bought an HP envy wireless printer.... once I am able to print, it soon forgets how to do everything else. I have reset the BIOS, ran troubleshooting, eliminated all conflicts and loaded every latest driver. Only after a System Restore, did I get it working with my Mifi. Worked great for 2 days, and it soon forgot how to read my Mifi again. Every time it develops a connection issue, it is random, which is beyond frustrating. My Mifi works great with my Toshiba laptop and ipad, so the hot spot is not the problem.
Tonight all I had to do was get online, and print an airline ticket. It took 4 hours. Constantly rebooting and system restore...and once I finally got it to talk to the printer, it wasn't able to connect online even though it showed full connection to my hot spot. I now dread every time I have to use it because it takes hours to perform a simple 5 minute task....unless it's in a good mood, then it will work, but it is completely random. Every time I boot it up, I never know what I am going to get. It is extremely fickle, and randomly unreliable.
Like others, I am disgusted with this terrible laptop and will likely get a Macbook Pro, since they work like they are supposed to. I am done with HP...stick to printers and stop making horrible PC's. I am also convinced Windows 10 is yet another failure from Microsoft and is a huge contributor to the issues I am having.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Get solid dynamic audio amplification with this Onkyo 7.2-channel network A/V receiver. It can connect directly to your Wi-Fi to stream music and video, and Bluetooth connectivity ensures you can stream media directly from your smartphone. The 4K compatibility ensures extraordinary detail when you combine a UHD TV with this Onkyo 7.2-channel network A/V receiver.

Great Features..Amazing Sound!

I just got this receiver today from Best Buy and finished setup a few hours ago. It was too new to read any reviews of it, but based on other reviews of previous models, I was to expect fantastic sound. I was not dissapointed! I am running it through the $120 Polk center speaker, Sony large front speakers, Jensen 12" downfiring subwoofer and KLH rear surrounds. The sound is so amazing it's almost distracting...it's sensory overload!
Setup was relatively easy and the sound configuration mic was a cool feature to use. The remote seems simple, but has very convenient buttons and does everything I would want it to.
I recommend you take the time to go through all the onscreen menus, because then you will find 3 user defined pre-sets for sound equalization! It has a 15 band equalizer inside which you can set any 9 of the bands and save as one of the 3 presets. I run a Dish Network thru it with an HDMI cable and it is supposedly upscaling the picture from 1080 to 4K. I think I notice the difference, but it is subtle. Onkyo seemed to think of every little detail, such as the sound mutes for 1 second when you skip commercials, so you don't hear that annoying sound blip on every cliick..it's just quiet while you skip the commercials, and comes back when you're done clicking.
Once you tweak the sound settings and get it set just right, you'll be amazed at the things you will hear! I have read of some quality problems with past Onkyo recievers, but also read of the amazing sound. So I bought it with the 2 year Best Buy extended Geek Squad warranty, which is a bit of peace of mind. Any problems in the next 2 years, I have a local store to take it to for service.
So far I am extremely impressed with this receiver, and I guess I am the first to review it....so I have the luxury (or disadvantage) of not reading any negative opinions of it yet.
So based on what I have experienced so far, I highly recommend this receiver. I don't know how it stacks up against the higher wattage model for $599, but I am happy with this one!

Some additional comments on my Onyo 555 Receiver.
May 22, 2016
a few things I wanted to add about this reciever:
(after a few weeks it still works great, so no problem there.)
1) Minimum volume starts at 40, which is weird....room filling volume is about 65-69. I think it goes all the way to 100.
2) I wanted to mention the graphic equalizer function has separate settings for EACH speaker! Even the subwoofer has it's own set of EQ settings. I was amazed by that feature!
3) when playing my ipod thru the receiver, there is a button that enhances the sound. That button only activates to enhance MP3 and other compressed audio. It works well and the sound improvement is noticable.
4) I expected DTS Surround and all the other home theater sound acronyms, but kept only getting PCM output. After research, I found that PCM is the most desirable. It is pure uncompressed audio and is superior even to DTS Surround.
