I previously had a Fitbit Charge HR, and it was very unobtrusive to wear. I liked the fit and feel of it and the sleep tracking, but I found that the step count seemed inconsistent, the HR was often all over the place, I'd forget it was on doing the dishes or swimming, there were intermittent/frequent sync problems, and I was charging it every three days to avoid the risk of losing data on the fourth day when the battery died.
So I spent a lot of time researching many of the competing fitness trackers and I found that nothing really met my needs...EXCEPT for this vivoactive HR. I ordered from Best Buy this week and it arrived yesterday. (Super fast!)
My initial impressions: PROS + Easy to sync and set up out of the box. + I liked that there were settings to control right on the tracker (no need to change them on your phone/computer app). + I like all the data you can see on the tracker that is easy to navigate to when you get used to how the menus work (takes about 10 minutes). I prefer the more complicated data view vs the simple one that fitbit offers. (I'm an engineer so it's a personal taste thing.) + I like the Android app and it connects with MyFitnessPal to show me my calories right on the app! (You still have to log food through mfp, but it gives me one stop of seeing my burn.) + The backlight didn't automatically come on while I was in bed and wake me up with the brightness. (The Charge HR did that on occaision.) OBSERVATIONS = I've never had a smart watch before, but getting the notifications is interesting. I'm not sure if I like how it's presented yet.
CONS - The backlight seems dim (even on brighter settings) but I accept this because it promotes battery life. - It's big on my female wrist (and I have big wrists for a woman). It's borderline uncomfortable for me initially but hopefully I get used to it. If I don't wear it tight, it uncomfortably slides down to hit my wrist bone (and hurts!) and if I go one more setting tighter, it feels too tight.
So far I'm pleased with my purchase, but I think the size or maybe just the shape (the screen and controls are almost as wide as my wrist) holds it back from being perfect for me.
