great device but don't lose your receipt

I've had the device 7 months now and it's worked great doing all I expected. When the battery is running out you'll get wildly ranging numbers for your heart rate. Like 49 BPM and then 190 BPM the next second. This isn't a problem as you just pop in a new battery and all is well. About a month or 2 ago the device starting doing the wild numbers act and i replaced the battery only to have it work normally for a week and then start the wild number presentation again. Even though I had just changed the battery, I did it again...and it's still doing this behavior. There are lots of comments about this behavior online so it's not an isolated problem I'm having.
Polar states they have a 2 year warranty so you can send it to them (in New York) and they'll check it out. The problem is that you must have the original receipt...they don't have an online warranty registration and without it...you'll pay for the service. I like the device as it works great when it's working properly. Just keep the receipt!
