After adding another handful of devices from Christmas I decided to upgrade. Always been a Linksys guy, but also an Apple guy and Linksys isn't compatible with Time Machine Back up and Apple's router didn't get good reviews on long distance so I turned towards Netgear & Asus. I was hoping to buy American but after reviewing for weeks the RT-AC3100 also known as the RT-AC88U (minus 4 LAN ports and red on the antennas) edged out the competition in tests and reviews so I pulled the trigger. Set up was about 5 minutes, all devices connected instantly using same username and password. First thing I noticed is the range on the 5 GHz band is amazing! Whether I'm standing in front of my router or 50 feet away in my dining room the speed( 138+ Mbps) does not diminish where my old router would only pull down 20Mbps as a matter of fact the 5 GHz band covers my entire 2500 ft.² plus home at top speed. The only place I use the 2.4 GHz band is in the street in front of my house and I still pull down 100 Mbps. Second is its very consistent, and never had a drop off or a problem connecting to a device unlike my old Linksys E4200V2 router wouldn't connect my Zeppelin Air from time to time. Also it comes with more features and options than any other router on the market with an awesome interface and the apps work beautifully, but you have to manually download the new firmware update to use them even if it says it's up-to-date which only took a minute. This is definitely a solid product well worth the money if anything it might be overkill for my home, but i guess thats why they say it good for up to 5400 ft.² or so
