Maintain full control of your gaming commands with the customizable, illuminated keys on this Orion Spectrum mechanical gaming keyboard. Connect the unit to a smartphone or tablet to display in-game information when you need a second screen. Anti-ghosting protection keeps the Orion Spark mechanical gaming keyboard from freezing up during intense gaming sessions.

VERY good mechanical keys gaming keyboard

I've been a computer technician for well over 25 years. Choosing a keyboard is a highly subjective thing for me. I spent a long time reading reviews, going to various stores, and getting some hands-on time with other comparable modern mechanical keyed gaming keyboards. I mean, I REALLY spent a long time before deciding (like, several weeks)
I came over from using wireless Logitech keyboards in the past, primarily. (MK550 wireless wave combo also still using my Logitech DiNovo KB, mediapad and mouse) I have a good bit of knowledge where mechanical KB's are concerned as well, I just haven't had one in awhile to use regularly, so I wanted to make sure I made the right choice.
I started to get the Logitech G910 Orion Spark, but the Romer-G keys on it were really different on that particular model. I didn't think I could ever get used to all the different keys and how some were concave, some being plain and some at differing heights. I start from the perspective that Logitech has made great products that I have always liked in the past, and know that I usually can't go wrong (for my purposes) sticking with a known brand.
I had a really hard time deciding between the various Mad Catz, Razer, and Corsair gaming keyboards. Ultimately, my decision had to be made in conjunction with getting a new mouse as well. I ultimately went with this G910 Orion Spectrum and the G602 wireless mouse.
This combo gives me enough macros to utilize across all my games (mostly MMO). Although I realize there are new keyboards with more macro keys and combinations, as well as the same for the mouse, this keyboard and mouse satisfies my needs, even though I could've gone for a MMO specific mouse like the Corsair Scimitar or the Razer wireless chroma naga. In the end, I really didn't need that many extra macros on my mouse, and I saved a bit of money choosing the G602.
The G910 Orion Spectrum keyboard specifically has a really great feel to it. The Romer-G keys are very well made, I prefer them to every cherry-model key I've ever used, both with and without O-Rings. This keyboard is VERY quiet to me, and the pressure is 100% right for my typing style. This KB is also very good for general use other than gaming. (a problem I knew I would have if I got the G910 Orion spark)
The best features are the feel, the macro keys, the lighting, and above all else - the ARX dock. It's very nice to have my cellphone or tablet (or both) displaying various information as I game or work. The ARX apps are being developed by people that are VERY handy, and new ones are being developed. The community is a great resource. It's a feature that made the ultimate difference for me in my choice.
The combination of multimedia keys, macro keys, the ARX dock, the very nice and customizable lighting is very cool. Having said all of this, there are negatives.
The wrist rest is horrible. It doesn't fit well, made of a very, very flimsy plastic, and came off all the time. My solution was to use some removable mounting poster putty placed strategically on the underside of the rest so that it would not fall off or come apart from where it connects. Now it is rock solid stable. and is actually not a bad wrist rest, but for a keyboard that costs this much, it's not an improvement as they made with the keys on this model as opposed to the 910 Spark.
The keyboard is made of plastic, it will turn off some users, and some of the anodized aluminum keyboards out there are much more durable. However, I take care of my equipment, so the fact that this is made of plastic is not a problem for me. In fact, it weighs less, and as I use it on my lapdesk, it becomes a plus for me.
The big difference between this model and the Spark is that they redesigned the keys, and on this model, all have only a slightly concave depression that the fingers slide into as you type. It's really easy to get used to typing on it, the feel of the keys and the force to press them down is balanced just right, in my opinion.
Best of all is the ARX dock. I've got mine setup so I can dock both my phone on the keyboard and ALSO use my tablet beside my KB. One app monitors my PC stats while the other I usually have set for a multimedia remote or set to display my in-game macros until I get used to them.
It's best to go in-store and try out the feel of the keys, also get a feel of the way it's made in making your comparison of gaming keyboards. Feature-wise, it ranks up there with all other gaming KB's, and the ARX dock is super cool.
I would recommend this KB, but be sure you are prepared for dealing with the wrist rest (mounting putty is a great way to make it stable where it clicks into place to the plastic frame of the keyboard). All in all, placing my faith in Logitech has come through for me again, as I am sure this keyboard will last me a very long time.
I hope this in-depth review helps you to make your decision !
