Good Value for the Tech

PS4 Pro is coming in at launch PS4 price, and packing in an upgraded GPU, upclocked CPU, larger HDD, and some nice software enhancements that make a comparable PC build push above its weight. PS4 is really not powerful enough on paper to do true native 4K for big games, and is using software tricks and algorithms to get there. If you've seen it in person, wow, I don't think the average gamer would tell the difference, and you most certainly won't if you are playing on 1080p displays. On top of that, less graphically intensive games like Rez or TLOU:R will support 4K in Native. Digital Foundry does a good job highlighting how close Sony has come to 4K and how hard it is to tell the difference. Really impressive they were able to get this into a $400 box.
If you have a PS4, I'd say, Pro is kinda a no-brainer upgrade. Its a beefier PS4, that will make your games look/run better, your PSVR games look/run better, and if you get a 4K set, make them look MUCH better. I haven't bought a Blu-ray in, 5-7 years, (Avatar was my last one) and regular Blu-ray playback suits me just fine, I think people online giving bad reviews over a non UBR-player are being extremely disingenuous. What Sony has done here, for $400, is really incredible value.
I would recommend this to a friend!

So Disappointed!

I have been holding out for this console for the longest time in hope that it would feature a UHD Blu-ray Drive like its competitor, the XBOX One S. I cannot fathom why Sony, who is a leader in 4K technology would leave something so important out. Not only will we miss out on the UHD Blu-rays, but imagine what triple layer 100GB discs could handle for the PS4 Pro! Such a missed opportunity for Sony. People are buying up UHD Blu-rays right and left, and people who want to game and watch 4K movies on the same device, will only have one option. The XBOX One S.

Maybe because...

It’s simple more than half the people who buy PS4’s stream/download movies. In fact, Physical media is down every year, despite 4K sets rising. People aren’t buying disc anymore, and unfortunately we are the vocal monitory complaining on forums and tech sites about how Sony dropped some “ball’ that doesn’t exist in reality.

Is it true we can trade in our old PS4 and pay $50 to get the new pro?

Different retailers will have various deals for trading in towards a Pro. $50 would mean your trade in value is $350, which is not realistic. The most you can expect from trading in an older PS4 base model is $100-$175 off your PS4 Pro purchase. Promotional deals will no doubt vary between now and black Friday.

I heard that the new games that are coming out like battlefield or gears of war will be 4k on the ps4 pro or is it just upscaling the game?

Gears of war is only 4K on PC, and is also an Xbox/PC only game, it won't be on Playstation. Some games on PS4Pro are native 4K, like Rez or The Last of US:Remastered. Some games scale up to 4K like Horizon, using software tricks. These games aren't native, but are much higher resolution than 1080p, and have HDR added to enhance color and graphical effects. DF have done a great job showing the difference between checkerboard rendering (Sony's software for getting big games to 4K) to native 4K running on high-end PC, and can be found on youtube. It's very close, and you should be able to see for yourself soon.

Note: If you are going to get a PS4 Pro, or want to see one in action, I advise you to visit your local Best Buy and test out different TV sets that have HDR.

So the PS4 Pro is only an update in the hardware, you sure it runs all the PS4 games. Like there's not gonna be some catch where one game won't be able to run there and run on the other PS4? Cuz KH3 will be here soon, and I'm playing it!!

PS4 Pro is very much a PS4, just improved. It is compatible with all PS4 games, and will just run games better. Starting in October, developers are required to have a base PS4 and Pro version of all games sent to Sony for certification. Think Iphone 7 & Iphone 7+ This is not PS5.

So I just bought a PS4 last December of 2015 and now this new pro is coming out. I wanna know if I should purchase a pro but I do not own a 4K tv. So my question is will the PS pro show better graphics and smoother frame rate on a 1080p tv vs the PS4?

Yes, PS4Pro will enhance your games, period. You don't need a 4K set to notice improvements. Some games will run at faster frame rates, some will enhance visuals at all resolutions (1080p 4K, etc...) some will have additional features, it's a beefier PS4, devs can do more with the hardware.

Since this unit is "OverClocked" what did they do to better dissipate the heat ? as is PS4 gets warm/hot already ? IS HD a 1TB 5400rpm or 7200rpm ?

The PS4P is a bit bigger in size and weight, I'm getting one at launch, and will confirm how hot/quiet it gets.
