BEST Value of 2017 ... sony > samsung
on April 28, 2017
Posted by: Annonymous
All PROS: no cons. I use as a PC, and have it on Game mode, and still no blur or judder, also no lag. The KS8000 had tons of blur for pc use, returned for this. Viewing angles is slightly brighter than the samsung, but both lose saturation equally. (FYI less viewing angles = less electricity usage, look at OLED energy usage) ALSO better blacks! TV speaker sounds terrible on this but who cares.
TIPS:
-Bluray Motion Tip without SOE. Minimize blur by setting Motionflow to Clear, Cinemotion to High, and light sensor Off.
-To avoid lip sync issues, leave speaker output set to TV, turn volume all the way down on TV remote and turn soundbar up.

LG Fanboy gone Sony Pony
on April 21, 2017

1080p LG players are the best but Sony 4k Players seem superior. Fast loading time, great picture, remote is good, buttons are easier to use than the samsung, philips 4k player remotes. LG 4k remote is good, but has a weaker signal than the sony's.
My next TV will be OLED not from LG, but from Sony for its lesser motion judder/flicker TV's than LG. Returned the LG 4k garbage player for this. This sony has more apps and the HDR worked for my KS8000, the LG did not. LG has terrible start menu and is all white and blinding on the eyes. Plus, this unit is MUCH heavier and seems more solid.. usually a sign of better quality. Quickstart function is great. Fanboys need not rate my post.

Lack of blacks
on April 15, 2017
Posted by: Annonymous
Had for a couple days now, and terrible viewing angles, terrible blacks, but good motion with minimal judder in bluray movies. Some blur is better than having judder, so its blur isnt too bad. Its the lack of deep blacks that may be the deal breaker... Granted, I stepped down from having an OLED ef9500 with great blacks, but my issue was that the LG TV has a real judder problem that ks8000 didnt. Plus the ks8000 wont display HDR with most of my 4ks via my new LG 4k player.

Preorder short changed...
on April 9, 2017
Posted by: Annonymous
Cons:
Would have been 5 stars if netflix, youtube and HDR WORKED.. Says it needs software update, yet "no updates found". bs.. No HDR for 4k discs.. As a result, 1080p movies are MUCH brighter than 4k movies! Its that obvious. Also, it rumbles/rattles loudly for a few secs after inserting a 4k disc. So much for pre-ordering this.. LG dont release a product if it requires unattainable updates needed to function properly. Its going back after a week if no fix itself
Pros:
Remote is light and user friendly buttons, and better than philips and samsung 4k player remotes. Disc tray is also quieter. This has Hi-Res audio, as stated on unit itself, yet its not advertised on BB, suspicious..

Boring throughout the length of the movie with no real climax. Seemed kinda like a soap opera. And Tarzan is a white man in this movie which deviates from the original story.

Bad movie, and a chick flick. Watch with no expectations. Since this movie made me laugh AT the movie a few times, I think it genuinely fulfilled its purpose since its genre is a comedy. The original was not really a comedy, thats why it did not create laughs. SUPERB HDR on my oled, AND THE 3D is jaw dropping, which ads the 2nd star in rating.

OLED technology and 4K resolutions combine in this 55-inch Sony Bravia TV. It produces deeper contrasts than ever before thanks to its OLED technology, and you get exquisite detail and impressive responses that look seriously realistic. Added to that is smart technology that lets you access online content, which makes this Sony Bravia TV a media powerhouse.

Unbelievable!
By Nylon
I picked up my 55" on Easter Monday 2017 and have been testing it all week. To be honest, I've never seen anything like it!
Let's start with the design even though it's subjective. The A1E has very minimalistic design. It seems Sony looked to a Bauhaus design credo when designing the set i.e. "form follows function". Sony obviously wants you to focus on the picture and the picture only. That's why there is virtually no bezel. In fact there is virtually no bulk to the TV. The TV disappears behind the screen. The stand is very well designed, heavy and solidly built. You will never feel like the TV is going to tip over. The connections are thoughtfully designed and cable management is fantastic with clips that keep cables together just below where they connect to the TV on the rear stand. The angle on the screen is so minimal that I barely noticed.
As far as picture quality is concerned, it's the best I've seen since the days of the Pioneer Kuro plasma's. This TV has picture quality that rivals and in some cases surpasses those Plasma's. The motion processing of the TV and it's 4k upscale capability far surpasses any LG OLED I have ever scene. HD sources are beautifully upscaled but I would say that one definitely needs to calibrate the TV in order to get the best out of it. I also have a 4K PVR at home and Broadcast 4K looks phenomenal, especially sports. Netflix 4k UHD and Amazon Prime 4k UHD also look amazing. I tested "The Grand Tour" on Amazon Prime, the episode where they are in dune buggies in Namibia and it felt like I was there. I also tested out an Alien Bluray 4k transfer which is probably one of the best contrast torture tests you can give a TV. All I can say is it was phenomenal.
As far as sound is concerned the TV has fantastic sound out of the box. While I use a Sonos Playbar setup, I did still test the sound out the speakers of the TV initially. I was shocked. The soundstage from the acoustic surface speakers is surprisingly large. Secondly it actually feels like noise is coming out of the characters mouths on this TV instead of from a speaker below.
So all in all I would say that Sony has hit it out of the park for their first OLED. I am ecstatic. This is my first jump into 4K and into OLED and I won't be looking back. No regrets at spending the money.

Needs more firmware updates.
By MovieLover
I bought this the first day it was released. It's super light and cheap feeling. On par with the Philips player. Right out of the box first movie I saw had banding/ posterization. This is unacceptable from lg. How can they make the best 4k sets but bring this out to pair with it. Please fix this with better firmware. I should have watched this review first https://youtu.be/TF9-6R2Po9g

Philips has better picture quality. Philps remote is cheaper, but with a stronger signal than LG weak signal remote. I returned for the sony tank (its very heavy non flimsy plastic)

Nice TV, but still disappointed
By Rick
Firstly, this is a fine TV. I'm not going to say much about the technical specs, they are out there for everyone to read. I will say that this 900E produces uniformly deep black levels, excellent contrast, has adjustable color saturation (so, if you care to, you can oversaturate the colors like they do in many showrooms) ... pretty much everything Sony promises in their advertising works. Really nice sound from the internal speakers, compared to what I am used to! However, it is not much of an upgrade from my old 55-inch HD TV, out here in the real world. I had read several advice columns on 4K TV's. One bit of advice I should have paid more attention to was that it doesn't make much sense to buy 4K in screen sizes smaller than 65-inches for most people. In my experience it seems to be true. Unless I sit really close to the screen while viewing 4K content, and I normally do not, the difference between my old HD set and this 4K set can be fairly subtle. The bottom line is I should have purchased the 65-inch set, if I stick with 4K at all. Most of the programming I watch actually looks the same or better on my old HD set. I watch a lot of classic movies and pre-HD commercial programming. I haven't found the upscaling from HD to 4K in this Sony to be very impressive, and it comes well-rated. For older non-HD content I feel the upscaling is completely ineffective for even maintaining the picture quality, forget about improving it. Perhaps the X1 Extreme chip in the 930E set would do a better job of upscaling, but I have no use for a 70-pound 55-inch TV. One other little quibble about the 900E. The IR sensor for the remore control is located at the bottom center of the TV. That is right where you might want to place a center channel speaker or a sound bar, which will block the sensor. The height of the provided stand is not adjustable, so you would need to raise the TV (perhaps using an after market stand) or relocate your speaker(s) or use an IR Blaster. For those doing a wall-mount this is not an issue. Three stars just because it isn't the upgrade I expected from HD, in this 55-inch screen size anyway.
BTW, dealing with Best Buy on this purchase was a great experience. I expect my return of this set will go equally well.

Upscaling is a very subtle feature and should taken lightly, as its hard to spot even from a TV enthusiast. Also

Can you buy a blu-ray player and not have it hooked up to the internet. Only play movies.

I bought a Blu-ray player and it would only work if hooked to the internet. I took it back to best buy in Bryant, AR and was told that you can no longer buy Blu-ray players without hooking them to the internet to get updates. I just want to play my movies. I had a blu-ray player that did that but it no longer works. Thank you for your help.
