Net Gear Range Extender X4 AC2200
on August 19, 2016

I am part of the Net Gear Friends and Family Program and I received this new Net Gear Extender this week to test.
Results:
Set Up: Fairly straight forward. Their directions are good and thorough so it should be easy for most anyone to follow. I had no issues getting my new model to work. I would suggest removing any other extender you might have because they share the router names.
Speed: After set up I performed several speed tests from different locations. I typically have trouble getting range in my garage so I tested their first and was able to finally achieve a decent download speed : 28.89 and an upload of 9.72. Before, with my older extender I wasn't able to get more than 8 Mbps so it's a pretty substantial improvement. Inside the house I'm getting 100+ from most locations and before I could get 100 download near my old extender but certainly nowhere near even 50 if I was on the far end of the house.
Product itself: Some may not like this but I prefer it 100% over the alternative, the power plug is attached to the unit on this device. You don't need a separate power cord and a place to set the unit on. Like a Carbon M detector this unit plugs directly into the wall. Nicely hidden behind a dog Kennel.
Rating: I give Net Gear a 5 for this extender. No doubt a big improvement over my previous unit.

Arlo Camera (Q) is great for home monitoring

My first impression is that NETGEAR put a lot of time into the quality of the Camera itself. The finish is a muted white dense plastic "(soft to the touch)" with a steel pin supporting a 360 degree camera. The camera isn't 360 but you can position it where you like on the pin and it will remain there "solidly" there in any 360 degree position. The base allows you to screw it into a wall and the camera body slides into the base unit with a magnetic bottom holding it secure.
Set up time took literally 2 minutes. I plugged it into my router using my Wi Fi password and using my Arlo App I was able to see 1080p within a couple of seconds. Like their other cameras (battery powered) the picture is definitely nice and clear. NETGEAR replaced their old ARLO interface with a much better one this go around. To be honest the old web ARLO site was cumbersome and hard to manage but the new web site is much improved. It found my new camera within a few seconds and added it to my system of battery powered cameras and we were up and running. I took some still picture shots, used the Audio feature to talk with my kids and tested various lighting conditions which turned out great. Remember folks, this is a powered camera so it goes in a location where you might want to watch something regularly like a baby or a baby sitter - for that purpose this Camera does the job perfectly. It has a small LED light at the bottom so people will know it's on when the see the camera.
I rated the Arlo Q a 4 out of 5 because the Audio Feature has a slight delay, Not bad, maybe a second or less but if you want to have a conversation with someone you can still do with some degree of patience. It's acceptable for me. I just think that cell phones can connect easily with no delay so this Camera should produce similar results. Again though, if you want to use the Audio Feature it does work just fine.
The alerts work really well as I can say I had about 100 or so on my email within the first day of operation. I turned the alerts off using the web App and it was extremely simple to find and change.
I've tested NETGEAR products for them in the past and this was another participant program test for me under their First Review Program. I own a mini storage which has 13 cameras around the property so I'm used to using security cameras for business. This is pretty much perfect for home use or inside monitoring (not outside mini storage use). Overall I'm really impressed with the Arlo Q.

Upgraded and Happy

First of all it should be known that I replaced a pretty decent router to begin with but what I was looking for was better download speed at the far end of the house. I live in a large rambler that required an extender to hit better performance at the far end of the house.
After installation, which took about 10 minutes because I went through the process a few times, I ran my speed tests. My Old router used to hit 9.9 MGBTS download speed a the far end of the house when I didn't use the extender. This new AC5300 hit 56 Mgs tonight AT THE FAR END OF THE HOUSE. I had to yell that in caps because that was exactly what I was hoping for. As a result of the performance I can now place my extender in the garage to help wi fi performance while we're out front.
Installation was pretty uneventful but you will need to be aware that the unit itself is pretty large. I would place it in a room that is seldom used or on a rack in your utility room if you have one. You can't stack anything on it as the top has a pretty unique wavy design. Not sure if that is meant to make it look good or to prevent you from stacking things on it but either way it's hidden from view and sitting alone. The unit has 4 pretty substantial antennas on it which give it that great distance reach that we were looking for.
I've owned it for about a week and have had only 1 minor issue connecting to it with my first generation Ipad. Everything else has connected just fine. The 2 G band is better for longer distances so they recommend you connect to that band when at the far end of the distance range. Up close to the router the speed is obviously maxed out to what you purchase from your provider but just to compare - I wasn't able to tell the difference in my speed test weather i was 90 feet away or standing next to it.
Overall, I would recommend it to everyone - No doubt a great new model for net gear.

Will the Arlo Q work with existing Arlo wireless & be able to monitor on the phone using the same viewing page?

I just want to be able to make sure it will work with our existing Arlo wireless.
Yes it will work with your existing Cameras. The interface on your computer or phone will find the Arlo Q as part of your network. I had it up an running in less than 3 minutes.

The phone app works great - MUCH improved over the last interface.
