Awful

A truly dumb movie. Buy it as a 4k disk; a big mistake. Only footage that is produced in CGI demonstrates the advantages of 4k versus HD. Footage filmed via a traditional camera looks no different than it does on an HD TV.
The only available 4k blu ray player, as on April 14, the
dreadful Samsung K8500, upscales no better than a $88 up scaling 4k blu ray player. The 4k quality of this disk is no better than an up scaling player.
Buy it, because it's an "Ultra 4k HDR disk, you've wasted your money.
Buy it because you want a good film, you wasted your money.
It all comes down to how much money you want to waste.

Poor panel display and on/off lighting. Poor 4k streaming picture. Cheap plastic construction. Can't modify picture from any source other than disc. App store lacking; especially in the music, sports and news categories. Average, at best, upscaling capabilities. Difficult to move apps from Samsung apps to My Apps.
Pros-good picture and very easy to use.
If I didn't suffer from the early adopter syndrome, I would have waited for the availability of other players. The Panasonic 4k player which has, as of this date, no on sale date, has gotten far better professional reviews and comparison versus the k8500.
Based upon the cheap plastic construction of this unit; I purchased the four year extended warranty. I think I'll need it.
I should have waited.

Research before you buy
By 25yearsinconsumerelectron
The pros-good, but not great 4k picture. Very easy to use.
Cons-average upscaling, actually my Panasonic upscaling blu ray player picture had far better picture. God awful remote, lots of Samsung apps but few worth downloading, cheap plastic construction, player's video settings only work on discs, can't modify picture settings on video streaming or on streaming 4k videos.
Far superior products only a few months from initial sales.
I'm an early adopter who's a perfect target for products like the k8500. However; after almost 30 years at a Senior management position managing a major CE brand, I should have known better. I have only myself to blame for this purchase.
What you and I should have done-wait for other players. For instance, the Panasonic UB900. It isn't available yet but it's less than a few months away.
Why wait-the UB900 has already received better reviews and comparisons against the Samsung K8500. It not only is compatible with the 2.2 decoder needed to play true 4k discs. It also contains the V9 decoder which is a far superior method of upscaling blu ray discs. It also will run every current audio option available today.
My review should not be considered a "pitch" for the Panasonic UB900. It should be viewed as an educated suggestion to wait before you buy a true 4k blu ray player. There are many far better units only months away.

You wouldn't be giving the K8500 five stars if you owned an other than Samsung TV or compared it to the UB900.
Where are the player's video settings on any format other than a disk? Is it THX certified? Where are the multiple audios settings? Where the VP9 up scaling capabilities? Where is the necessary player display information. And, if you like me, want to modify your picture settings, how's that working out?

How would Panasonic - Blu-ray Disc Player with 1080p Upconversion DMP-BD60K rate?

I'm in the market to buy a blu-ray player and I was wondering how this particular blu-ray player rates with more expensive blu-ray players, as far as picture and sound go? I notice it can decode high definition audio formats so that would go good with a receiver that could decode those kind of formats. And how can you update your firmware on this particular model? Any help is appreciated, thank you
Can't answer for the unit you're considering but I owned a Panasonic upscaling Blu-ray player and found it to produce an excellent picture from Blu-ray disks and regular DVDs.
It was also problem free.

How to choose the right size of a Flat LCD TV for a small family living room?

If you go online and ask that question, you'll find many plausible answers. Just remember, with today's HD and 4k TVs you aren't expected to sit long distances from the picture.
I have a 55" LG 4k TV and I sit 8' from it.

Trying to find a DVD/CD cleaner/scratch repair Kit or Machine.. Anyone Know where I can find one???

Have heard about a scratch repair system..
If you buy them new and handle them properly, you shouldn't need a cleaner.

If you're buying used disks or fingerprinting them, use a soft cloth, like a eyeglass lense cloth, and move from the inside to the outside. Don't clean in circles.

Don't know of any scratch repair kits that work well.

As far as a cleaning machine, even the ones in video stores don't work well and will probably be a waste of money.

when will the samsung ultra hd player be available?

The K8500 has been available since February 2016.

Having owned and returned one, I would suggest the more expensive but significantly better Panasonic UB900.

There is a major compatibility issues between the K8500 and non Samsung TVs. This has been confirmed to me by Samsung 4k Blu-ray player technical service, LG customer service, a Geek Squad supervisor, two Best Buy Magnolia store home theater sales people and sales people at my local Best Buy.

If, after comparing the K8500 to the UB900, the price is a concern, wait until other 4k Blu-ray players are available.

I cannot stress strongly enough not to buy the K8500. I know. It damaged my initial LG 4K TV.

What DVD players play's both Blu-Ray disc and regular DVD-disc?

2 in 1 players
A Blu-ray player will play both. A 4k Blu-ray player will play both and 4k disks.
A standard DVD player won't play Blu-ray disks or 4k.
The price differential between a standard DVD player and a Blu-ray player is very little. Buy the Blu-ray. It will also upscale standard disks; providing you, in many cases, a better picture from a standard disk.
The one down side to a Blu-ray player is the cost of Blu-ray disks are higher but not significantly higher.

I have a vizio 4K tv with the 8500 hooked up to the hdmi 5 port but when I play a 4K disc it says that it can't display uhd content. Am I doing something wrong or is it just my tv?

No, your problem is with compatibility of the K8500 and non Samsung TVs. I called Samsung and they admitted that many problems do exist.
These problems have already resulted in the return on one TV similar problems on a second TV and the exchange of the K8500 for the Panasonic UB 900.
And, if a new mother board doesn't fix my current TV, Best Buy will be seeing me again.
Oh, a Best Buy Geek Squad technician and two Magnolia store employees have also noted compatibility problems with the K8500. Those problems get worse with firmware updares.

I get a message "this player is not connected to HDR compatible TV" But I have Sony BR-X930D TV which is HDR and also a boss 4K sound bar.

I had so many compatibility problems with the K8500 and my LG 4k HDR TV that I called Samsung k8500 technical support team.
I asked one question and got this exact response. "Have you had compatibility problems with the k8500 and other than Samsung TVs?" The response was immediate. "Yes and it may get worse."
I then called Best Buys Geek Squad and was told "We've heard of this problem before."
Then I called a Best Buy Magnolia location and two salesman, one owned a Sony 4k TV, said they had issues with the K8500.
What you're experiencing is probably caused by compatibility problems inherent with the K8500.
Where you really find significant compatibility issues is with your picture settings. Go into each of your picture settings then go to the picture options and/or advanced picture settings and see how many are greyed out, meaning you can use them.
I have more than 20 picture options that I can't change and LG has told me I should be able to change them.
The K8500 has already resulted in the return of one TV and the same problems with a second. I'm awaiting a new mother board. If that doesn't work, Best Buy will be getting another visit from me.
Oh, after Samsung admitted to compatibility issues, Best Buy took the k8500 back and applied all I had spent on it towards the Panasonic UB 900. I've had no additional compatibility problems since I installed the UB 900.
GOOD LUCK.

Does this player support Dolby Vision ?

No the K8500 may play a Dolby Vision blu-ray disk. But it will not stream Netflix and Amazon 4k selections. Both broadcast their 4k selections, currently, using Dolby Vision.
As far as I know only LG 4k TVs utilize Dolby Vision at this time.

what is the best picture setting for a lg 65ub9500 4k tv

how to get best picture
I believe there are nine picture settings on your TV with at least 10 to 15 more within each of the nine main settings. If you don't want to fully adjust each of those settings, use the nine.main settings as they are when you bought the TV. Some are set for cinema, sports, games, vivid, etc. You should try each one with the type of programming being played and then determine which one works the best by program type.
You have another option, one I'm not in favor of, ask Best Buy to calibrate your TV. They charge more than $200 for this service but claim it will give you the optimum picture.
