The NETGEAR AC1750 Smart WiFi 5 Router with external antennas delivers extremely fast WiFi. With AC1750 WiFi, Gigabit Ethernet speeds, and high-powered external antennas, this router offers ultimate performance in wireless coverage for large homes with 12 or more wireless devices. It gets 3x faster access than similar 802.11n.

Solid Router With No Complaints.

While I own other Netgear products, this is my first NetGear Router. I continue to be impressed at the extent that Netgear has go to in order to make home networking easy and practical for the layperson. My experience with their newer products has been that they are able to be setup by family members that may not have any idea what they are doing, but by following the included setup guides and stepping through the guided setup, are able to get up and running without calling me (bonus!).
The AC1750/R6400 wireless router has three external antennas, uses beamforming ( Smart, signal-focusing technology boosts the speed, reliability, and range of your WiFi connections), has five gigabit ethernet ports, two usb ports (one is 3.0, one is 2.0), supports the readyshare and readycloud apps, as well as openvpn.
Upon connecting this router to my home network and walking through the setup, I found it to be powerful - extending wireless access across a 3000 sq ft house with ease, as well as into the front and back yards, with full signal. The Genie app is a nice dashboard app that lets me monitor and control the device and assists with troubleshooting. If you install the genie app on your phone or tablet, you can also use it to share data from/to your network. The ReadyShare Vault application lets me setup continuous backup from all of my home computer to an external HDD via the usb plug on the router. The other usb can be used to share out a printer.
I configured openvpn in order to connect to my home network when away, and I like the way that Netgear has chosen to allow for the automatic creation and download of keys for this process. It enables the average person to use the openvpn protocol instead of PPTP, which is not secure. NetGear does support the WPS protocol for quickly connecting wifi client devices in your house, but I did not test this feature, as I keep it disabled.
While Netgear provided this router to me for free as part of the Friends and Family program, my honest opinion is that this is a powerful wifi router on it's own, but becomes an exceptional value when considering the extra features and software that add value for the average home user.
I would recommend this to a friend!
