One-star deduction for Best Buy, not Surface ;-)
on September 21, 2015

I have owned the original Surface Pro, Samsung Galaxy Note and currently own the iPad Air 2. I also maintain a Surface Pro 3 (core i7) for work employees. I am an enterprise IT Director, so I know a little about gadgets and gizmos :-p
First of all, the Surface 3 with Intel Atom x7-Z8700 (128 GB) is an Excellent product. This is truly a laptop replacement for home and work users alike and what the previous iterations of the Surface should have been. I recommend the 128 GB version, since the 64 GB version only comes with 2 GB of RAM (which limits performance quite a bit).
The Atom x7-Z8700 quad-core mobile processor (x64 architecture) and 4 GB RAM make this capable for most home or business work loads. This version of the Surface does not overheat like the Intel Core Surface Pro models (due to a desktop processor being jammed into a space smaller than a gnat's *ss). This is not the wimp of previous Atom processors, however. It runs the Surface 3 with Windows 10 quickly and responsively and is more than capable to run most business applications, photo editing (unless you are using resource-hogging Adobe products). I run Visual Studio 2015 on this no-sweat.
Pros:
- Improved battery life over Surface Pro
- Runs cool and can be easily held for work in tablet mode.
- Great streaming (Netflix) and HD display.
- Microsoft Edge browser works fast on this tablet, so web surfing is a very positive experience.
- Surprisingly good speakers
- Charges with most standard micro USB mobile chargers. A big plus, in my opinion. Does not require a proprietary connector.
- Windows 10 :-D is surprisingly awesome for tablets. A huge improvement over Windows 8.1 regarding touch screen layout and operation. Full unlocked operating system, unlike iOS or Android.
- USB 3.0
- Bluetooth 4.0 works great
- Wifi works great.
Cons:
- Won't be running your high-end games (awwww)
- Not designed for heavy production or engineering work
- Doesn't come with Windows 10 installed. I had to install post-purchase (at least mine did not, even though Best Buy's display model had it installed and I was assured it would have Windows 10 on it by sales rep - 1 star deduction)
Summary:
An excellent tablet for home use and office work. Runs great for the level of work it is designed for. Runs Office 2013 great, runs Visual Studio very well. Runs all Store apps I have (including Asphalt 8) flawlessly. A HUGE improvement over the first 2 iterations of the Surface and Surface Pro.
If you need more horsepower, I recommend a laptop or desktop. The Surface Pro models are pointless IMHO. They run way too hot with a short battery life to be effectively used as hand-held tablets.
I would recommend this to a friend!

can you put quickbooks software on a surface 3?

This tablet runs full Windows 10 operating system. You can install any program made for Windows 7 and higher on this tablet. Quick Books should run fairly well (although I have not personally tested it).

Can I sync this tablet to control my classroom computer

This tablet runs the full Windows 10 operating system, so it can be set up to run other computers remotely. If you are education staff, work with your school's local IT to help set up.

Do I have to buy a keyboard?

Yes. The keyboard cover is sold separately, but any bluetooth keyboard will work if you can't afford the official keyboard.
